WHY HAS THE NAME CHANGED FROM ANKC TO DOGS AUSTRALIA? Dogs Australia is the new consumer face of the internationally recognised Australian National Kennel Council (ANKC) including Dogs ACT, Dogs NSW, Dogs NT, Dogs Qld, Dogs SA, Dogs Tasmania, Dogs Victoria, and Dogs West.

It unites the impressive network that makes up the Dogs Australia community, which has an estimated 60,000 members. Dogs Australia incorporates 32,000 members, including 11,000 knowledgeable breeders and thousands of dog advocates associated with 353 breed clubs and 484 sporting clubs across Australia.

WHAT DOES DOGS AUSTRALIA DO? Dogs Australia is a not-for-profit advocate for dogs’ wellbeing, dedicated to the preservation of original breeds by upholding healthy and ethical breeding standards. It was first established in 1958 as the Australian National Kennel Council (ANKC). It maintains the pedigree register, a heritable diseases database, funds research into canine diseases. Dogs Australia supports state and territory-based member bodies who promote breed shows and events, together with community sports for dogs that fulfill a breed’s natural instincts.
