It is with great sadness I announce the passing of long time member of DOGS NSW, Reg Young on Thursday, 16 December 2021, just a few weeks short of turning 101 years. Reg had a wonderful history with DOGS NSW and Dumbledeer Dalmations, as many of our members will remember him with his bus and Challenge Dog Supplies. To honour and remember Reg please turn to pages 8 and 9. Our thoughts are with his family at this sad time. Rest in peace Reg.
The 2021 Christmas Show, held by DOGS NSW Public Relations Committee, turned out to be quite the event, due to the extreme thunderstorm which totally disrupted proceedings. Despite this, everyone managed to enjoy themselves, particularly the children, even with General Specials being held in the Amenities Building due to the weather conditions. For more about the event, along with some very colourful images of the children, dressed for the occasion in Christmas gear, please turn to pages 10-12.
The ADVANCETM Sydney Royal Dog Show is an event that many of our members love to attend and once again the Domestic Animals section of the Royal Agricultural Society (RAS) have provided some helpful information and tips to assist you with preparing to attend with your dog. There is also a pictorial line up of all the judges for the event, along with their details. To read more please turn to page 21.
The spotlight feature for this issue is the Field Spaniel, a docile, sweet natured breed, that is both active and inquisitive As they are particularly patient with children and love to be close to their family, they make a wonderful canine companion. Further information on this lovely breed can be found on page 16.
In Vet Chat, veterinarian Sean McCormack explains what to do if you spot a grass seed wound on your dog, as well as the steps you can take to prevent it from happening in the first place. The article appears from page 13.
We also feature three book reviews in this edition, “World of Dogs,’ by Lara Shannon, ‘Good Dog’ by Kate Leaver and ‘What Dogs Want’ by Mat Ward. The latter title is a great little coffee table book for those who are into funny illustrated guides for happy dog care and training and the clever drawings are by Rupert Fawcett. The reviews commence on page 26.
The winner of December’s Super Dog Products competition of ‘FitPAWS’ Starter Kit was Robynne McGinley. Congratulations Robynne!
