Message from The Principal
It seems hard to believe that I am already at the end of my first year at Doha College and I would like to thank all members of the community - students, staff, parents, governors and alumni for the incredibly warm welcome that they have afforded me as I have transitioned into life and work in one of the most dynamic and inspiring British International Schools in the world.
From the moment I stepped foot in Doha College almost two years ago, I knew that this was a very special place for young people to learn and grow. From the outstanding staff who do so much to ensure that the students are safe, supported and learning effectively, to the outstanding facilities that ensure that, whatever a child’s interest, they can ensure that they strive to become the very best version of themselves.
One of the reasons this year has gone so quickly is the variety of events and highlights we have enjoyed - from outstanding performances on the stage and on the sports pitch, to academic success both within the curriculum and beyond it. I have really enjoyed celebrating so many successes with individual pupils, but also enjoyed seeing the record-breaking examination results for entire year groups. Perhaps our proudest collective moment of the year came with the publication of our outstanding BSO inspection reportwhich is available on the Department for Education in the UK’s website here - which really was a testament to the excellent work of all our community and culminated with the assertion that Doha College is a ‘centre of excellence within the region’
This yearbook will serve as a keepsake for future years for our students when, long after they have left us, they will be able to look back on friends and memories and what may well be the happiest time of their lives. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of those individuals who have contributed to the yearbook in what is always a significant undertaking.

SENIOR VICE PRINCIPAL - HEAD OF SECONDARY
As we close another chapter in the book of our school’s history, I am honoured to reflect on a year filled with remarkable achievements and unforgettable moments. As Head of Secondary, it is with great pride that I share our journey of excellence.
Our November BSO inspection was not just a success, but a testament to the dedication of our students and staff with the unending support of our families. In achieving ‘Outstanding’ in all categories, we showcased the true spirit of our school community.
Celebrating academic prowess, we recognised over 200 students for their remarkable grit and brilliance in their examination results. Their achievements serve as a beacon of inspiration for generations to come.
On the field of competition, our U13 Champions at the BSME Games displayed unparalleled skill and determination, embodying the essence of our core values.
Venturing into the world of innovation, our students revved up their engines with their F1 in Schools project, leaving an indelible mark at the Doha Grand Prix. Their ingenuity and hard work set new standards for excellence, proving they’re not just fast, but Formula One-derful!
And who could forget the electrifying atmosphere of the National Battle of the Bands competition? Our students rocked the stage, leaving audiences in awe with their musical talent and passion.
Yet, amidst the triumphs and accolades, it is the moments of connection and shared joy that truly define our school year. From conversations about passions at break times; to our selfless drive to raise monies for charitable causes; these are the memories that will endure.
I am immensely proud of each and every one of our students. Their individuality, resilience, and boundless potential never cease to inspire me.
And to our dedicated staff, who go above and beyond every day, I extend my deepest gratitude. Your support and commitment make all of our achievements possible.

YEAR 8
Birch Head of Year 8
As we reflect on the journey of Year 8, it’s evident that our students have seamlessly settled into the rhythm of school life, fostering friendships that bridge across form groups. This year, our focus in PSHE centered on understanding social boundaries, nurturing friendships, and celebrating the beautiful tapestry of our differences. It’s heartening to witness the personal growth displayed by our students in their interactions with others.
Venturing beyond the classroom, our enriching excursion to Msheireb Museums offered a profound exploration of sustainability in Qatar and delved into the historical context of enslavement in the broader region. This eyeopening experience not only expanded our knowledge but also deepened our understanding of global issues.
Moreover, our sense of community was fortified through various events throughout the year. From the inclusive movie night to the spirited weekly house competitions during the ever-popular Games lessons, and culminating in the memorable Year 8 picnic at the end of term one. Such communal endeavors not only brought us closer but also instilled a profound sense of belonging within our year group.
We held our first international residential for our students, many of whom had never been on an overnight school experience before. Romania was the perfect backdrop combining culture, gothic castles, the great outdoors and teambuilding. The students came back enriched and excited for more opportunities in the future.
Athletic achievements shone brightly this year, showcasing the remarkable depth of talent and teamwork within our cohort. We are proud of how our students represent Doha College both in local competitions and as U13 BSME Champions.
The Arabian Nights school play showcased the artistic flair and dedication of our students. Their musicality shone through in the annual house music competition as well as in individual performances with the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra and in international competitions. The children’s unwavering commitment to charity events and house activities further exemplifies their spirit.
Year 8, you have set a remarkable precedent for growth, community, and achievement. Here’s to the continued journey ahead!

YEAR 10
Matthew Acton Head of Year 10
Year 10 has been a whirlwind of growth and excitement for our students as they embarked on their IGCSE journey. From navigating through new subjects to embracing the demands of the rigorous work required, they have shown resilience and determination. Our tutor groups engaged in many games competitions, from ultimate frisbee showdowns to intense interhouse sports battles and music contests, fostering a sense of camaraderie and teamwork. Moreover, a team of pupils headed to Bahrain to take part in the BSME games where Doha College U15s finished in second place from the schools in the Middle East, which was a great achievement. Additionally, over half of our year group ventured into the Omani wilderness to pursue the bronze DofE award, fostering invaluable skills and experiences. With a focus on future aspirations, we hosted Aspirations Evening in May, where our students gained invaluable insights into the world of work, speaking to many professionals from different career paths. As we look towards Year 11, our students are poised to tackle new challenges head-on, continuing to flourish and positively contribute to our community and society. Here’s to another year of growth, achievement, and success!

YEAR 11
Eoin O’Connor Head of Year 11
Each year, when it comes time to produce the Doha College yearbook, there is a sense of nostalgia and reflection. As we approach the end of Year 11, I have a greater scene of both. Having been with this year group since year 7, I distinctly remember our move up day with Mrs Amos in Al Waab. Our first day in Al Waab, way back in 2019. Being present as we got the call to close the school because of COVID. As a group, we went through lockdown together while also changing campus and seeing our student body grow with the addition of two new tutor groups who have added great value to our school. As students you have been through some unprecedented change, and you have shown your adaptability and resilience to stay the course and get to this point, the IGCSEs. For all of you, I have no doubt of your success in these upcoming IGCSE examinations, and beyond.
In international education, The end of year 11 is traditionally a time of real transition. We will see many of you leave for pastures new and we will welcome many students to our fantastic year group next year as
we begin our A-Level journey. For those leaving, we wish you the very best, and for those staying with us, I’m really looking forward to year 12.
Our very best to all of you, and if there is anything we can help with, you know where we are.

YEAR 12
As we close the chapter on another remarkable school year, it’s with great pride that we reflect on the journey our Year 12 students have undertaken. Transitioning from GCSE to AS Level is no small feat, yet our students have embraced the challenge with determination and resilience. Throughout the year, we’ve witnessed them flourish, gaining more independence and freedom within the sixth form environment, while also fostering unforgettable memories at events like the House Festival Day. We’ve celebrated our academic achievements together, honoring our successes at the GCSE Celebration Assembly. Moreover, our connection to culture was deepened through the KS5 Iftar evening, highlighting the diverse and inclusive spirit of our community. But perhaps most importantly, our Year 12 students have formed strong bonds with their peers, creating a supportive network that will endure beyond these halls. As Head of Year, I eagerly anticipate the journey ahead into Year 13, where we will continue to build upon these foundations, preparing for the next chapter in our lives at university. Here’s to more memories, more challenges, and more growth in the year to come.

YEAR 13
As we flick through the pages of this yearbook, reflecting on the extraordinary accomplishments and unforgettable moments of the past year, it’s crucial to hold onto the belief that children represent our future, and it’s our duty to safeguard and nurture them.
April Smith Head of Year 13
This straightforward yet impactful notion emphasises the significance of our community’s role in shaping the lives of our children. Each child showcased in this yearbook serves as a testament to the potential and promise residing within our classrooms. As parents, educators, and guides, it falls upon us collectively to establish an atmosphere where every child feels secure, appreciated, and motivated.
Protecting and nurturing children encompasses more than just furnishing them with education and essentials. It entails heeding their aspirations, empathising with their hurdles, and fostering their interests. It’s about cultivating a culture characterised by compassion, resilience, and inquisitiveness. By prioritising their emotional, mental, and physical wellbeing, we equip them to confront the future with assurance and bravery.
While we commemorate the triumphs of this year, let’s persist in being advocates for our children, ensuring that each day presents an opportunity for their development, education, and flourishing. Together, we possess the ability to construct a brighter tomorrow, one student at a time.

The Arabic language is not merely a subject of study, but rather it is education and upbringing, carrying within it the depth of history, the beauty of literature, and the ancient identity. It is a spiritual language blessed with greatness and beauty. It serves as a gateway to understanding Arab culture and history, as well as the ability to express oneself and interact with others.
In the Arabic Language Department, we are honored to provide a rich array of activities held during Key Stages 3, 4, and 5 for students in both the first and second languages. These activities have not only enhanced students’ skills in various fields but have also increased their interest in the Arabic language and their enjoyment of it.
The pages of the Arabic language subject are also filled with a variety of extracurricular activities that support and enhance the language, such as extracurricular activities and educational trips to visit various places in Qatar, which stimulate students to explore, motivate them towards literary sense, and reinforce national identity. Competitions have also taken place this year, such as writing, spelling, and reading competitions.

Academic year 2023- 2024 has proved to be a busy year for the Art and Photography department. We were excited to continue to run trips this year for our GCSE and A Level students. This included, a walking photographic tour of Katara, Al Riwaq gallery, Museum of Islamic Art, MIA Park, Doha Port, Katara and MATHAF. In all galleries students viewed both contemporary and historical artwork of both local and international artists. Students engaged critically with artwork, photographed, and drew art from across the middle east and further afield. The students gained a lot of experience on these trips, and it has been the basis of their research for their coursework and examination projects for GCSE and A Level.
Our students entered art competitions both worldwide and within the Middle East with COBIS and BSME. COBIS received close to 270 entries from 111 schools around the world. The quality of entries were exceptionally high. Emily Bentley our Fine Art A Level student was awarded runnerup in the KS5 category, a wonderful accolade.
Our Co- curricular Art and Photography provision has been very popular this year from photography activities with Year 11, to painting and printmaking activities with KS3, and creating a mural with Year 10, led by Year 12 students. It has been fantastic to see the vibrant outcomes from all activities. These activities feed into classroom practice and develops passionate and creative students. We have seen this through all Key Stages. Currently, our Year 7s are learning about the “Elements of Art”, and in this they look at line, shape, value and colour. The fundamental

principles of drawing are an important factor in this unit of work and students learn about various artists along the way, learning to critically analysis artworks.
Our Year 8 students focused on Modern Art whilst creating some excellent sculptures influenced by the work Barbara Hepworth and Henry Moore. In their second project the focus is Indigenous art of Australia and through this the learning objectives is to learn about the history, culture, and art of the indigenous people of Australia.
The Year 9 students focused on the topic of “Cubism”, gaining an understanding of the art movement and awareness for the cubist style of artists, such as Picasso, Braque, and Gris. They have created a collagraph print based on their Cubist style still life, showing multiple views of various objects fracturing the planes in the manner of the Cubists. From this, they have designed and made a sculpture, drawing influence from both Cubism and African Art. Their final project will look at ‘Icons and Identity’, focusing on the attributes which make someone an icon or role model and discussing how contemporary artists portray them in their work. From this they will produce a portraiture outcome based around their individual icon.
This coming term we will host our annual Year 11 and 13 exhibition, this showcases the talents of our students and the creative work they have produced over the last 2 years. We are very much looking forward to this event and ending the year with this celebration.

Psychology aims to make positive change in people’s lives and influence their behaviour for the better; it is a part of understanding reality. Why would we teach learners about the external world - history, geography, chemistry, and so forth - but never teach them about what is happening in their own minds, or those of others? (Firth).

Science helps us to answer our biggest questions and to meet our most basic needs. The findings of science have fundamentally shaped every aspect of our world. Science drives innovation, creating new knowledge to help us solve current and future problems. It is no surprise then that science as a subject is so popular at Doha College. Science at Doha College is valued beyond a core curriculum subject and treated as a form of inquiry. Curiosity and a desire for explanations are common to all human beings, and we therefore encourage in our pupils the rethinking of commonplace topics in a challenging and exciting manner. We acknowledge and challenge the pre-conceptions of science that pupils bring into the classroom as this promotes logical deduction and reasoning. Overall, we hope our pupils will become well-informed global citizens of tomorrow who can benefit from a culturally interdependent society and make valued contributions to society and the environment.
This year has been an exciting time for the science department and science continues to thrive in popularity. It is a key subject for many of our students and those that study Science A level courses go on to university to read medicine, dentistry, one of the branches of engineering or computer science. The department’s examination results are a testament to its success.
Science teachers at Doha College continue to embrace new ways of teaching; retrieval practice is a strategy supported by evidence and can be used to enhance learning and progress, both inside and outside of the classroom. The benefits of retrieval practice for longterm learning are among the most secure findings in educational psychology, therefore it is not surprising that Doha College has enthusiastically embraced retrieval practice. Retrieval practice is a method which brings information to mind, enhances and boosts learning by providing regular opportunities for students to revisit material from current and previous topics. As the department embraces new methods and techniques your son/daughter will encounter more low stakes quizzing to support learning.
The department places great importance on the development of skills that students need to be successful for employability and university. It is

F1 in Schools is the only global multi-disciplinary challenge in which teams of students aged 9 to 19 deploy CAD/CAM software to collaborate, design, analyse, manufacture, test, and then race miniature compressed air powered cars made from F1 model block. Teams must raise sponsorship and manage budgets to fund research, travel and accommodation. The challenge inspires students to use IT to learn about physics, aerodynamics, design, manufacture, branding, graphics, sponsorship, marketing, leadership/teamwork, media skills and financial strategy, and apply them in a practical, imaginative, competitive and exciting way.
In March the department celebrated British science week where students in Year 7 and 8 had to make, market, cost, and pitch their perfect slime to potential investors. I can safely report a good slime was had by all!! Our speaker events are firmly established which provide opportunities for students to hear first hand about real life experiences in maths and science careers. They have been very popular, we are always looking for inspiring speakers - please reach out to us if this is something you might be interested in.
This year saw the first F1 in schools competition held at Doha College. Seven teams took the opportunity to send their own F1 style race car down a track with speeds in excess of 50km/h. The cars had been designed and manufactured by the students. They were able to exhibit their portfolios detailing the journey. I can safely say that the atmosphere was electric coupled with the last minute disqualification which brought all the drama one might expect of the F1!
The Biology Department has had an outstanding year, highlighted by our highly successful Medical Review Club. This year’s club activities culminated in a well-attended conference in January. Sociology has flourished into a massive department, with across 130 students studying the subject from Year 10 to Year 13 in 2024. The focus of the department has been to create a robust understanding of Sociology as a social science, enabling students to develop a strong foundation of research methods. Activities such as sampling, conducting interviews and questionnaires helped students experience the method of conducting research as sociologists in the real world. Students enjoy exploring the answers to questions they are curious about such why crime is a business for politicians, the reason the education system is corrupted and why the media is extremely manipulative.

Ondrea McSwiggan
CCA STRATEGIC LEAD
CCAs at Doha College Secondary have gone from strength to strength. We have expanded our offerings, ensuring a diverse range of engaging co curricular activities for every student, leading to an increase in participation numbers.
Exciting collaborations with top-tier external providers have brought fresh perspectives and expertise to the CCAs, introducing students to a variety of activities, from robotics and coding to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, elevating the overall quality and appeal of the programs.
It is well researched that universities and employers often look for candidates who have participated in cocurricular activities, as they are seen as more likely to have developed key skills such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving, leadership, time management, and organisation. These skills are highly sought after in the workforce and can give students a competitive edge when applying for jobs or higher education. We are passionate about instilling these attributes to our students.
Noteworthy this year has been the strong sense of community and mentorship, with secondary students actively engaging in supporting and mentoring younger primary pupils in the Primary CCA Programme. This interaction has not only fostered a cohesive community but has also nurtured leadership and empathy among students, marking this initiative as a heartwarming success.
Looking back on this successful year, we are proud of the students’ embrace of opportunities, showcasing growth in skills and a commendable dedication to personal and community development. Doha College remains committed to a holistic educational approach, with the enriched CCA program exemplifying this dedication.
The CCA team eagerly anticipates building on this success and providing even more opportunities in the upcoming year, inviting everyone to join in the journey of exploration, learning, and excellence together.
In summary, it’s been a year of growth for co curricular activities at Doha College. This year’s success is also testament to the dedication and enthusiasm of our incredible staff who have gone above and beyond to run these CCAs. Their commitment has not only provided our students with invaluable opportunities for growth but has also fostered a sense of community and teamwork that extends beyond the classroom. We are grateful to each and every staff member for their tireless efforts and the positive impact they have made on our student’s lives. We look forward to another year filled with exciting opportunities.

Message from ECO Coordinator
The Eco Committee’s dedication to environmental stewardship has shone brightly this year, impacting our campus and beyond. With a passion for sustainability at the forefront, the committee embarked on various initiatives to nurture a greener, cleaner future.
Our efforts began with campus-wide litter collections, turning our meeting times into opportunities to beautify our surroundings. Transforming mere spaces into vibrant green havens, we crafted enchanting garden spots and introduced bug hotels, fostering biodiversity within our school grounds.
Venturing beyond our campus, a Qatar National Library trip inspired us as we met Sarah Roberts, a renowned children’s author and biologist advocating for sustainability. We also demonstrated our commitment to animal welfare by dressing up for World Animal Day and raising funds for animal rescue initiatives.
In a powerful statement of our commitment to sustainability, we proudly celebrated Qatar Environment Day with a resounding call to action against single-use plastics. This significant milestone marks a pivotal moment in our journey towards becoming a single-use plastic-free campus, reaffirming our dedication to preserving our planet for future generations.
Participating in Expo Doha, we contributed to a monumental painting project, spreading awareness of environmental conservation on a larger scale. Closer to home, we engaged with our Primary students on Plant a Flower Day, reviving our Secondary Eco Garden with youthful enthusiasm. Culminating our efforts, we launched a competition to design our new Doha College Eco Code, rallying around the powerful slogan: “There is no planet B.” Through collective action and unwavering dedication, the Eco Committee has woven a tapestry of sustainability, leaving an indelible mark on our school community.

Duke of Edinburgh
Nadeem Faisal
DUKE OF EDINBURGH COORDINATOR
This year we were fortunate enough to reinstate the Silver International Duke of Edinburgh Award for the first time since the pandemic. It was a busy year with Bronze, Silver and Gold all running, with the highest number of participating students in the Duke of Edinburgh Award that Doha College has ever had.
Excitingly, the Bronze and Silver students participated in overseas expeditions to As Sifah, Oman for a challenging adventurous journey. The terrain required excellent navigational skills and was physically very challenging in comparison to what they had experienced previously in Qatar. Prior to the trips the students underwent rigorous training including camp craft skills and first aid. The Gold students will participate in June in the traditional annual expedition to the Lake District in the United Kingdom.
Each year our students achieve incredible things, learning new skills, attaining new physical goals and providing their services to the community. This year was no exception with some skills including students writing books and getting them published and students learning to cook with our very own Madame Mechmech. In the physical recreation aspect of the award students were taking up new sports such as climbing and fencing and achieving new heights in sports they already participate in such as football, netball and athletics. In the voluntary service part of the award the students were leading after school activities, volunteering in the science department and walking dogs for charities like QAWS.

Doha College Model United Nations
Jonathan Henley
DIRECTOR OF MUN
This has been a fantastic Year for the Doha College Model United Nations club as it saw the return of an in-person conference hosted by DC for the first time since 2019. Indeed, DCMUN XV marked an amazing moment as it was a culmination of all the hard work of students from previous years who kept the activity going online through Covid to the incredible student leadership today who worked tirelessly to put on one of the most fabulous Conferences in Doha College’s history. Running three days, featuring over 15 different schools and approximately 400 students and cumulating in an epic final day at the Mondrian Hotel, this conference made Doha College proud. Doha College students from every year group were involved not only as delegates but also in administration, press and executive positions, all of whom were vital in making the conference such a memorable experience.
But this was not all.
Other highlights of this year involved us sending Year 10-13 students back to the QNCC, for the first time since 2019, for THIMUN Qatar and taking Year 7-9 students, for the first time in Doha College’s recent history to the THIMUN Middle School Model United Nations-Qatar Conference in March. We also had over eight students present workshops at the Qatar Leadership Conference in October, which was a bumper number for us and represents our fabulous talent in this school. And, of course, our regular DCMUN club also has ran every Tuesday for all year groups. But there was even a first here as we have continued it over three terms, for the first time, instead of the traditional two and Year 10 students have been recruited as trainers to lead the club in this term.
In today’s world, awareness of global issues has never been more important, and the Doha College Model United Nations continues to bring these topics to the forefront for all students. It is also an activity that promotes genuine student leadership. It has been wonderful seeing the incredible work and contributions of all students who have been involved in DCMUN this year. We look forward to working with you all again next year!

DIRECTOR OF MOCKINGBIRD ACADEMY
We are thrilled to announce the outstanding achievements of our students in the Acting LAMDA Exams this year. Out of 119 participants, an impressive 89% earned a Distinction, while the remaining students achieved a Merit. This remarkable accomplishment is a testament to the dedication and talent of our pupils.
Doha College students not only excelled in their exams but also reached significant academic milestones. Twenty-eight students achieved Grade 4 and 5 exams, which are equivalent to high-grade GCSEs. Additionally, seventeen students attained Grades 6 to 8, which translate into valuable UCAS points, comparable to As and A-Levels.
These results highlight the exceptional skills and commitment of our students, providing them with a strong foundation for future academic and professional success. Congratulations to our amazing students on their incredible achievements! Here’s to many more successes ahead!
Out of 119 participants, an impressive 89% earned a Distinction, while the remaining students achieved a Merit.
House System
Throughout the academic year, the five illustrious Houses – Eagle, Trident, Oryx, Scorpion, and Viper – have showcased their prowess in a myriad of exhilarating events!
Kicking off the festivities was the House Festival Day in December, a jubilant celebration brimming with thrilling activities. From heart-pounding sports challenges to mind-bending departmental competitions, and even whimsical carnival games, each House left no stone unturned in their quest for glory. Ultimately, it was the cunning Viper House that emerged triumphant, seizing the coveted title of overall winners.
But the adrenaline-fueled excitement didn’t stop there! The Sports Festival Week saw students from all corners of the school converge to showcase their athleticism in a dazzling array of sports.
From football to rounders, basketball to netball, and everything in between, the competition was fierce. In a nail-biting finish, Viper House clinched victory, closely trailed by the formidable Trident House.
Yet, the House spirit extended far beyond the realm of sports. Tug of war battles, dodgeball showdowns, e-lympic challenges, and serene picnics fostered bonds that transcended mere competition. As the year progressed, the melodious strains of House music filled the air in May, while exhilarating scavenger hunts added a dash of mystery to term 3.
Every event, every triumph, and every shared moment will culminate in the crowning of the House Champions in June, a testament to the resilience, teamwork, and unwavering spirit embodied by each House member.
