<Present Yourself> For the Present Yourself project, I recorded my daily routine using photographs and sounds captured from early in the morning to right before when I fall asleep, allowing the viewer to see and hear the events in my everyday life. Photos are printed on tracing paper and sounds are recorded on a CD. I used soft light on tracing paper rather than transparent or ordinary paper. I made an effort to share with people what I see, listen to, and feel every day.

<Super Ordinary> My definition of “super ordinary is something ordinary, yet unique and special from various points of view. After having seen many types of chairs, I decided to focus on a stool. I made a low stool with foldable legs. This wooden stool is for someone who wishes to sit on the grass after it had rained. The AstroTurf (artificial turf) is attached on the surface of the stool, providing a protective colour of the grass. The stool stands out against other surfaces such as the ground, road, and pavement. This stool conveys my definition of super ordinary.

<Bad Habit> When I drive, I see many other drivers tailgating at speeds above the speed limit—a behaviour that can be regarded as a bad habit. Therefore, I created a “TOO CLOSE” sign with red LEDs to warn the driver following behind. I built a circuit using the rear parking sensor to flash the LEDs when the car behind approaches within a certain distance. The closer the car behind approaches, the faster the light flashes. It can be fun for the driver behind because the sign seems to detect the distance. They may feel guilty about tailgating and maintain a safe distance.

<On Location> Most tenants in this apartment, including myself, have to move out soon unless they can afford to pay the rent, which will be doubled. I like my flat but I feel ambivalent about this location. In the past, suicide was sometimes committed as an act of defiance or political protest. Therefore, I made a life-size paper doll sitting on the windowsill to symbolize the tenants in this apartment. This doll conveys the opinions of the tenants, including myself. I hope this doll can speak for the despair of people who have to be driven out from their flats.
