I

ssue 2 is finally here! I’m delighted to have contributions from some of my favourite bloggers; Jackie James (Ooh Mrs James), Sara Gibbs (Under the Vintage Veil) and Festival Brides. We’ve got a year’s worth of cake flavours courtesy of Chatter Cakes, a glorious cocktail recipe from The Vintage Patisserie, a brilliant competition from Wakeup Your Make-up and lots lots more. I’m pleased to feature the retro lounge set I designed as part of the real wedding on page 28. It’s definitely the most fun styling project I’ve undertaken – I had so much fun shopping with an ‘Abigail’s Party’ theme in mind! I hope you like our fox couple on the cover, I couldn’t resist. It’s quirky couples like this (and amazing photographers like Emma Meston) who make me excited every day. It’s the reason I love weddings – because every event is different. I love couples who express their personality and aren’t afraid to push boundaries and do it their way. I’ve been part of some fabulous weddings during summer 2013. I successfully built a Prosecco tower from Babycham glasses for Olivia & Steve (real wedding page 48), I’ve hung lampshades from the Atrium at The Dome in Worthing (our featured venue page 40) and I’ve marvelled on the sidelines as wedding guests took to the decks in a ‘Stick it On’ DJ battle (www.stickiton.org.uk). I hope you enjoy this issue and would love your feedback.

I

saw a flyer for Horsham based Jam & Tea in my local flea market shortly after I started Doily Days in 2009. I don’t mind admitting I felt a little threatened. They looked good. Really good. I’ve followed Jam & Tea since then and have been in touch with director Maryanne Petryszyn but strangely our paths have never crossed. When I decided to run this feature I emailed her and said ‘this is ridiculous... we have to meet!’ So one Monday morning I bombed over to Horsham and was greeted with a huge embrace from Maryanne and a face lick from adorable puppy Myrtle. I gulped as I followed Maryanne through to the kitchen – the decor was amazing! Vintage china, 50s floral paintings, faded wingbacks, duck egg dressers, old weighing scales, vintage books and suitcases, old enamel breadbins... antlers!

4

weddings

As we settled down to coffee (from kitsch royal mugs), pink lemonade from jam jars (with stripy straws) and homemade macaroons I got the feeling we were sisters separated at birth. Jam & Tea is an event styling and catering business with a nostalgic, eclectic and kitsch theme. They provide afternoon teas, hot sit down buffets and mash bars, all served by hostesses in attire to fit the mood – black cocktail dresses for a canapé party in London or flirty teadresses for an outside wedding on a farm. Quotes are prepared on an entirely bespoke basis and they’ll always bring plenty of props and serve the food in an imaginative way. Cakes and sweets are displayed in old weighing scales, jelly served in mismatching glassware, macaroons piled high on tiered cake stands.

Maryanne tells me they have two distinct themes for their events. ‘1950s kitsch/ pastel’ - lots of vintage china, glassware, lace tablecloths, bunting and stripy straws. And ‘1920s Gentlemen’s Lounge’ – Chesterfields, gramophones, cricket images and bar props. I guess the former lends itself to tea and cake and the latter to rugged, traditional pub grub like pie & mash. Jam & Tea also provide photobooth props which they theme according to the event and they take ‘Pearl’ their beloved 1968 caravan to events. They served Pimms and strawberries from Pearl at Wimbledon! Their impressive client list includes Topshop, Boden and Crown Paint. Yup, I’m still jealous.

Powder Beauty Powder Beauty Boutique is a glorious sanctuary in the heart of Brighton’s famous south lanes. The decor has a 50s pin-up feel and there’s an air of comfortable luxury about the place. Established since 2004 it’s firmly found its niche in the heart of the city. A favourite with some of the local burlesque performers and their doorstep’s even been graced by the likes of Dita Von Teese and Paloma Faith. No wonder they were featured in Vogue’s secret address book!

Photo Booth Prints charming is a wonderful little photo booth with all the bells and whistles you’d expect. His props and backdrops can be customised to fit any theme, but he loves a good old fashioned vintage party! The booth uses a top spec digital SLR camera for incredible picture quality, and a touch screen inside. They’ve had up to 8 people squeeze in the booth so it’s a great size too! Think of it like a passport/ID booth.... but much more fun. The photos are printed out in 10 seconds and are available for guests to keep straight away. The images will be put onto a DVD as a keepsake for the bride and groom. It’s also possible to create a guestbook as the evening unfolds, with guests drawing and writing messages next to their photos. The company don’t have a rigid pricing structure, they’re very flexible. So if you want 3 hours, but you’d love a photo album and some 1920s themed props, it’s no trouble! LOVEEmily by Emily Pick

Like most gaudy and tasteless trends, the fashion for huge public proposals seemed to start in the good old US of A... uploaded to YouTube and scoring thousands of hits per day, the plague of wacky wedding proposals quickly spread, infecting the rest of the world, and so the disease worsened... Last year grooms-to-be tired of the simple public humiliation of proposing at busy malls, restaurants and on public transport, and decided to add casts of all singing, all dancing glee-wannabees to the mix. And now it seems that nothing less than utter terror will suffice. Introducing the ‘horror proposal’ (you’re feeling romantic already, I can tell). This phenomenon has so far included elaborate, gory car crashes complete with fire, ambulances and prosthetics... the groom springing forth from his blood bath, ring box in hand, shouting ‘surprise! I’m not really dead! It was all a big joke! Will you marry me?’ Fake arrests aplenty, some choosing to stage their own arrest in front of their fiancé, others preferring to have their fiancé-to-be arrested for some unknown and unexpected crime.

Staged plane crashes! Boyfriend takes you up into a private jet for a seemingly romantic flight, when suddenly, oh no! Turbulence, he’s losing control, the plane starts to falter and plummet downwards... By far the worst thing about all of this, is that instead of leaving the man with a black eye and running for the hills, these women ALL. SAID. YES. What happened to simply looking into your lovers eyes, telling them how much they mean to you and asking them to spend the rest of their life with you?

Homemade Candles A vintage upcycling tutorial

To make 3 -4 candles you will need: Double boiler or a large pan and a smaller pan to sit inside. 450g (1 pound) soy candle wax flakes Coloured wax chips (optional) 4 tablespoons of candle-making fragrance oil Cooking thermometer Teacups/glasses Waxed wicks with sustainers (little round discs at the bottom) Chopsticks, pegs, pencils (will be clear later!) 1. Pour water into the bottom portion of a double boiler and bring to the boil. Put the wax flakes in the top part. Reduce the heat to low and stir carefully. Heat the melted wax to around 175 – 185 degrees Celsius. Next add coloured chips (optional). 2. Remove from the heat and add your fragrance oil. Check the manufactures instructions. Don’t be tempted to use too much as it could disrupt the flame or cause grease spots on the candle. 3. Stir, stir, stir and stir again. Let it cool to around 140 degrees Celcius and pour into your teacups. 4. Put a wick in each teacup and support it upright by resting it on a pencil, a straw or anything similar. 5. It will take 4-5 hours for the wax to cool and set completely. TOP TIPs If any air bubbles form once the candle has set, simply blast with a hairdryer and melt the top of the candle. It will re-set smooth. Trim the wick to ¼ inch before you light it.

VINTAGE STYLING TIPS

by Felicity Hayles - www.pearlsprops.co.uk 1. For our wedding we filled a barn with a variety of pieces from our home which we’d sourced over years from car boots and flea markets abroad. This helps to personalise the venue. 2. Use the walls to display collections of paintings, framed tapestries, mounted taxidermy or vintage posters to create strong focal points of interest. 3. Great tableware is vital; the popular mismatched crockery look adds colour and pattern also allowing you to theme or colour block each table for impact. Vintage decanters and cut glassware is also an effective way to create ambience as candle light will reflect off their surfaces. 4. Try to group your treasures together as single pieces can get lost. A good collection of vintage ceramic birds, for example, as a table centre amongst glass bottles of garden flowers is much more striking. 5. My tip would be to buy the vintage pieces you like not what everyone else is buying. The vintage wedding is popular now so it’s important to stand out from the rest and be original!

From these words Clive Sefton will create a high quality and original memento of the day in the form of a personalised word search. Clive intricately creates each piece by hand and aims to include around 100 words in each print.

Guests can pop their cards in and it makes a real feature on the gift table. The frontal information panel can be personalised with your names, date and venue using your own designs or you can mimic the classic Royal Mail panel with your personal details.

Once framed, the words can be circled on the glass using a drywipe pen. Friends will also have fun trying to find the word they suggested - assuming they can remember what they wrote!

Vintage Bar Box words by Helen Ruff Vintage Bar Box is almost ready for business. We caught up with founder Kerry Osmond to find out a little more about her background, inspiration and future plans for the mobile bar in a horse box. The daughter of a dairy farmer, Kerry grew up on a farm in Dorset. Cut to a few years later and she found herself living on the south coast, commuting four hours a day for her job as marketing manager for a construction company. “I didn’t have much of a life” says Kerry “I thought there must be more to life than this”. “I’d been marketing other people’s businesses for years. I always wanted my own company - something I could

30

weddings

be passionate about”. Kerry considered Airstream caravans, old Citroen vans but her light bulb moment came when driving behind a horse box. By winter 2012 she had found a horse box, it was part restored but needed a fair amount of work to bring it up to roadworthy standards. She wanted to restore the old horse box sympathetically and keep as many original features as possible. “The only major change was the addition of two windows” explains Kerry “the lights are original heat lamps used for lambing and we even kept the original interior side panels which protected the horses whilst travelling”. With the horse box safely in the barn, Kerry formed design

ideas before employing local tradesmen to do the work. The brand encompasses the iconic and stylish blue of the horse box. “The colour is marine blue” Kerry says “the trailers were brought out in the 70s, designed to go with the original Land Rover” Kerry is passionate about supporting rural, local producers and her brand reflects this. She’ll serve local Sussex wines and sparkling, a choice of new world wines, signature wedding cocktails, farm pressed ciders and juices, ales from local breweries and nostalgic fizz. Garnishes will be foraged from locally grown producers.

The Bar Box team will arrive at your venue and theme the area using custom made bunting, straw bales, potato sacks, woven blankets, flowers, fairy lights and troughs for ice. “My family have given me old keepsake treasures from our farm” says Kerry “such as milk churns for flowers and cart wheels”. The Bar Box team will be

dressed up in true vintage style to add to the nostalgic experience – the men wearing waist aprons, peaked caps and smart shirts with the ladies wearing dresses and sporting vintage hairstyles. The Vintage Bar Box offers a unique experience and is only limited by your imagination. It is perfect for barn weddings, marquees, glamping themed

events and engagement parties. If you’re having a festival/ glamping style wedding why not invite The Vintage Bar Box crew to stay overnight? They can serve hot chocolate in the morning!

COMPLETE CHILLOUT COMPANY Interview with Katherine Hudson www.completechillout.com Back in 2009, when Doily Days was just beginning, Katherine Hudson (CEO Complete Chillout Company) offered great support and some lovely opportunities. We were pleased to feature The Arabian Tent Company in issue 1 and we’re talking to Katherine again about another one of her (three!) businesses... So, Katherine, can you tell us a little about what The Complete Chillout Company offers? We make indoor spaces beautiful! This is done by filling the space with fabrics, furniture and objects. I have a theory that cushions relax people instantly, so a lounge area at a party is always going to create a great atmosphere. What different themes can you offer? Vintage, Fluorescent, Moroccan, Bollywood, William Morris, Boho chic… in essence we’re always looking for new ‘looks’ so if any ideas take our fancy we’re happy to invest in making them work. Can you give us some examples of venues you’ve transformed? Loads of different venues, from luxury yachts to warehouses, Ikea shops and intimate hotels. We can literally transform anything! We have our own ideas for our big day, do you offer a bespoke service? Absolutely – everything that we do is bespoke really

because we’re always working with different shaped buildings and mood-boards from clients. What exciting props are you working on at the moment? We’re always looking for new ideas for props – I love functional props i.e. our new Heart Lights – functional AND beautiful. We always try and tick these two boxes. We’re currently working on a ‘Secret Garden Door’ mainly for outdoor weddings – a beautiful standing door with intricate twirly hinges which stands in a frame. What’s your personal favourite ‘look’? Currently I’m really loving Mexican Which is predominantly white with flashes of bright colour …it’s so fresh, funky and fun! Where do you keep everything?! Can we come and see it? We have a barn in Firle where we have our showroom. It is constantly evolving, and at the moment we have a ‘tropical’ area at the end including a remote controlled parrot that I acquired from Glyndebourne’s prop department.

A Thoroughly English Affair The Garden Chef

words by Rebecca Redford We talk menus and venues with our featured caterer The Garden Chef. Food is such an important part of a wedding. It needs to reflect the event, the couple... and there needs to be enough of it to ensure those who’ve indulged heavily at the bar don’t end up in bed before the speeches! We caught up with Rebecca Redford AKA The Garden Chef to find out what tickles her taste buds: “I set up The Garden Chef from a converted shed in my garden, and it quickly became a full time job. 2 years ago I moved house to Chiddinglye Farm and converted the side building on the old Sussex barn into a wonderful working kitchen. My commute to work is a 2 minute walk from the house and I have a stunning work environment which clients can visit. The

34

weddings

barn and the cow barn are available for weddings and we can use the Earl of Limericks stunning terrace and gardens at the main house for canapé and sparkling wine receptions. I always ask my clients about their vision, then I do my utmost to make it happen. I think couples should be led by what reflects them. Why would a normally laid back couple who love burgers and chocolate cake suddenly have a threecourse chicken dinner just because that’s the norm? I love baking and creating fabulous cakes and deep filled quiches, making delicious colourful salads from really fresh seasonal ingredients, or just roasting a beautiful loin of pork and getting perfect crackling - delicious with homemade apple sauce. Real opulent country fare! I’ve done gourmet burger bars -

handmade burgers and a big table of homemade condiments like chilli mayo and blue cheese sauce along with mushrooms, bacon, lettuce and tomatoes to build your own burger. I’ve done a wedding in a cow barn using the old dairy as a makeshift kitchen, another in an old theatre where we literally had a cupboard to work from. I’ve done lakeside picnics and posh lunches in car parks! I work from several venues locally and of course here on the farm, which is where I will be getting married in August with a picnic and a vintage ice cream caravan, followed by a swim in the pool! Jeremy, my husband to be, is a co-founder and director of Sparkling English Wine, a specialist wine merchants - their range includes some excellent names including Nyetimber and Ridgeview. Together, Jeremy and I can make any event fabulous,

sourcing locally right through from the canapé reception to the evening bar. I also work with some wonderful florists,

and Nadya’s Cakes & Bakes, who not only make the most beautiful decorations I’ve seen, but her cakes are to die for.”

Happiness in Motion Words by Faye Spiller. Photos by www.reportographer.com

You may think that wedding videos aren’t your thing, and images of cheesy You’ve been Framed videos spring to mind. However, gone are the days of Scott and Charlene walking down the aisle to Suddenly blasting out in the background. Wedding videos have moved on. They’re more adept at capturing the emotion and the laughter. As Cinematic Wedding Films skilfully put it, it’s ‘your story, beautifully told in film’. Rather than only capturing a still image, although undoubtedly magical, there’s something truly moving about seeing happiness in motion. Call me an old romantic but there’s a line in US romcom 27 Dresses: “You know how the bride makes her entrance and everybody turns to look at her? That’s when I look at the groom. Cause his face says it all you know? The pure love there.” Imagine catching that on film …imagine being able to watch that moment over and over again. Your wedding day seen from a different

36

weddings

perspective yet truly personal to you, could add another dimension to your day, one that enriches your memories. It’s the little things that might otherwise be missed in the whirlwind of the wedding. Stealing a kiss, the cheeky glances between bride and groom, laughter at the best man’s speech, a smile from the mother-in-law all on film to be cherished and shared. It’s your day, you feel more confident and happy than you’ve ever felt in your life, then imagine that moment, that feeling forever captured on film. With an abundance of experience, the fab folk at Cinematic Wedding Films are offering all Doily Days Loves Weddings readers a £100 discount on any of their packages if you mention you saw their advert in the magazine! The Dome Worthing words by Robert Wilson This has to be one of the most stunning seafront venues for a Ceremony or Celebration. Built in 1911 this Grade II listed building is 50 metres from the beach and has four floors of function rooms with panoramic sea views. There is something quite magical about a place with such history and iconic status. The Dome spaces have been sensitively refurbished and are now run by Worthing Dome Events, who have twenty years experience in staging great parties. The function rooms have been lovingly restored with original features and memorabilia. There is a Vintage Tea Room on the ground floor for cocktails and tea parties, a decorative Main Dining Lounge for ceremonies, dinner and dancing and this room even has a private sun terrace overlooking the beach. In the actual Dome are the

Whispering Gallery and Atrium Bar which have 360’ views out to the Seven Sisters and South Downs. These rooms are also used for ceremonies and receptions. Past the 1911 oak ticket booth and beyond the wood panelled foyer with liner style stairase is the delightful, original cinema exactly as it was in the 1920’s. The whole building is steeped in heritage and is a stylish step back in time.

is ideal for seaside, vintage, classic and traditional weddings from 20-200 guests. Robert and James work closely with each client at every step and use their knowledge to create unique, imaginative events for every budget. They have contacts for every element of the wedding and are relaxed and flexible in their approach. The Dome is also great value as an all inclusive seaside function venue.

James and Robert own Worthing Dome Events and personally help you plan your special celebration. They offer over 20 years of event organising and imaginative food and drink service experience.

The Dome is a great place no matter the season. It is a special place for unique and classic weddings. James and Robert are always delighted to show people around the building by appointment. This is a real jewel and looks to stage spectacular events for a long time to come.

Clients have included David Bowie, U2, Paul Weller and HRH The Queen. Guests are always stunned by the space, light and views from within the Dome. The venue

BOYS STYLE W

ith weddings becoming ever more reflective of couple’s individual personalities, the days when the only options for a groom’s wedding clothing had to do with the kind of tuxedo he’d wear are well and truly behind us. With so much focus on the bride’s wedding dress, it might be easy to overlook the quirky touches that make up the groom’s style, but as a photographer it’s my job to be attuned to the details of every couple’s wedding day. Where the wedding dress is always an obvious wow, boys’ style tends to express their personalities in more

subtle ways. Clothes may make the man but it’s the accessories that make him stand out - a glimpse of fun polka dot socks under the trouser legs, a flash of cheeky cufflinks, vintage lapel pins, brightly patterned handkerchiefs peeking out of pockets next to feathered buttonholes, chunky stylised belt buckles and braces, colourful Converse, or the motorcycle boots you didn’t notice until the groom knelt during the ceremony. When it comes to details, the boys have it. By Erika Szostak - www.photomadly.com

Creative cakes

Flavour of the month by Tess MacMahon : www.chattercakes.co.uk

One of the first things couples ask me when I meet them is ‘do we have to have fruit cake?’ and I always have to restrain a giggle. I imagine some evil cake monster on their shoulder demanding fruitcake, or else. There is always a simple reply - no! ‘Wedding tradition’ shouldn’t make you feel pressured

into any element of your wedding, and cake is included. Use your imagination (or the help of any enthusiastic baker!) to build an amazingly tasty, unique wedding cake menu, and have something to really remember. To help you, I’ve formed a cake calendar, with suggestions for each month as to what is in season…

January - Clementine cake with passion fruit jam and vanilla buttercream February - Vanilla sponge with rose and rhubarb jam and vanilla buttercream March - Chocolate cake with Belgian chocolate ganache and orange marmalade April - Zesty orange and chocolate marble cake with chocolate ganache May - Lemon thyme cake with lemon curd and lemon buttercream June - Chocolate cake with fresh raspberries and raspberry Chambord July - Strawberry cake with elderflower buttercream August - Raspberry cake with white chocolate ganache September - Blackberry cake with lime buttercream October - Apple and cinnamon cake, with salted caramel buttercream November - Carrot cake with orange zest buttercream December - Spiced ginger cake with butterscotch buttercream You can always mix and match cake and frostings to suit your taste buds!

Let Me Entertain You Photo by www.infinityphotographic.co.uk, words by Dawn Gracie

With so many bands and entertainers on the market, it can be a real headache trying to decide what the best option is for entertainment on your big day. You might have been lucky enough to have seen an act first hand at a wedding fair or even at the pub and have fallen in love with their offering. A lot of people opt for a DJ which is a straightforward option, but what if you are looking for some live entertainment? Perhaps you’d like your guests to enjoy something with added wow factor, or go the full whack and have a live band to help your night go with a swing? I offer both of these options as Dawn’s Vintage Do and have performed in all types

of settings, from doorways to ballrooms! I work closely with the bride and groom and try to accommodate any setting or song request if it’s possible. My advice to you if looking for live entertainment, be it a soloist or full band is to do more than just look at a website. Ask for references, check out their social media profiles for client interaction and of course video footage and images. Make sure you ask for proof of PAT (Portable Appliance Testing) certification and the necessary insurances such as public liability. I always send out a Standard Engagement Contract to my clients, detailing the agreement and making sure we are all (excuse the pun) singing from the same songsheet.

Geronimo inns

We love Geronimo Inns. Their venues have a distinctive, unique style. Quirky, traditional with elements of vintage and a real emphasis on classic British food - sustainably sourced, prepared to perfection and served in style. They know a thing or two about drinks as well and offer an extensive, eclectic selection of real ales and fine wines. The lovely thing about Geronimo Inn venues is; it doesn’t feel like a chain or a brand. Each venue is different. They simply follow their ethos that the pub should reflect the neighbourhood. This is apparent in the design, the food and drink on offer and the people (staff and customers!). They have venues in London and a barn in Surrey so if you like the sound of their sophisticated, yet comfy and cosy style, why not hold your wedding celebration with Geronimo Inns?

Set in a stunning 300 year old converted barn in Blindley Heath, Surrey, The Red Barn is Geronimo’s country retreat. Bursting with character, and with a generous garden, it’s a gorgeous venue for a BBQ or hog roast in The Paddock. Use table cloths for a traditional feel or the rustic wooden tabletops can be left bare for a more casual feel. With beautiful beams, walls of old books and quirky ornaments there is little need for your own decoration in this cosy country venue.

The grand terrace at The Betjeman Arms is situated under the beautiful arching roof of St Pancras International. How about a French theme? Next stop Paris! The Dining Room boasts high ceilings and the interior suggests a real sense of occasion reminiscent of country houses of old.

Alternative Wedding Readings

In planning her own wedding ceremony Sara Gibbs (Under the Vintage Veil) searched for the right alternative, fun and quirky wedding

reading to really illustrate how her and her partner felt about each other and about love in general. We asked Sara to share her findings with our readers.

Pam Ayres – Yes I’ll Marry You

Louise Cuddon – I’ll Be There For You

Yes, I’ll Marry You. Yes, I’ll marry you, my dear, And here’s the reason why; So I can push you out of bed When the baby starts to cry, And if we hear a knocking And it’s creepy and it’s late, I hand you the torch you see, And you investigate. Yes I’ll marry you, my dear, You may not apprehend it, But when the tumble-drier goes It’s you that has to mend it, You have to face the neighbour Should our Labrador attack him, And if a drunkard fondles me It’s you that has to whack him. Yes, I’ll marry you, You’re virile and you’re lean, My house is like a pigsty You can help to keep it clean. That sexy little dinner Which you served by candlelight, As I do chipolatas, You can cook it every night! It’s you who has to work the drill and put up curtain track, And when I’ve got PMT it’s you who gets the flak, I do see great advantages, But none of them for you, And so before you see the light, I do, I do, I do!

I’ll be there my darling, through thick and through thin When your mind’s in a mess and your head’s in a spin When your plane’s been delayed, and you’ve missed the last train When life is just threatening to drive you insane When your thrilling whodunit has lost its last page When somebody tells you, you’re looking your age When your coffee’s too cool, and your wine is too warm When the forecast said “Fine”, but you’re out in a storm When your quick break hotel, turns into a slum And your holiday photos show only your thumb When you park for five minutes in a resident’s bay And return to discover you’ve been towed away When the jeans that you bought in hope or in haste Just stick on your hips and don’t reach round your waist When the food you most like brings you out in red rashes When as soon as you boot up the bloody thing crashes So my darling, my sweetheart, my dear... When you break a rule, when you act the fool When you’ve got the flu, when you’re in a stew When you’re last in the queue, don’t feel blue ’cause I’m telling you, I’ll be there.

Inspire For the sentimental couple For the short ‘n’ sweet couple Louise Cuddon – I’ll Be There For You I love you Not only for what you are, But for what I am When I am with you. I love you, Not only for what You have made of yourself, But for what You are making of me. I love you For the part of me That you bring out; I love you For putting your hand Into my heaped-up heart And passing over All the foolish, weak things That you can’t help Dimly seeing there, And for drawing out Into the light All the beautiful belongings That no one else had looked Quite far enough to find I love you because you Are helping me to make Of the lumber of my life Not a tavern But a temple. Out of the works Of my every day Not a reproach But a song. I love you Because you have done More than any creed Could have done To make me good. And more than any fate Could have done To make me happy. You have done it Without a touch, Without a word, Without a sign. You have done it By being yourself.

Emily Matthews – Marriage Is

Someone to believe in And to put their trust in you Someone who appreciates The special things you do, Someone to be close to, In your heart and mind, Someone who’s the love You might have thought you’d never find, Someone who stands by you And whose faith can make you strong, Someone you will cherish Every day, your whole life long.

Wild Hibiscus Champagne This chic Champagne cocktail transports me to ‘The Little Shop of Horrors’. I like to think that if I let one of the wild hibiscus flowers grow it might turn into Audrey II, which would certainly make for an interesting party. Wild hibiscus buds in syrup are easy to get hold of on the internet and keep for a very long time. The flowers and their syrup add a delicious, fruity taste and the blooms are very juicy, like big cherries filled with sweet bubbles.

6 wild hibiscus flowers in syrup 1 bottle of Champagne or sparkling white wine, chilled Place a hibiscus flower and 1 teaspoon of the syrup in the bottom of each glass and, when the party starts, add the chilled bubbly. Serve immediately and watch people smile with delight as you take credit for creating such a fancy drink!
