Kiln at Lai Chi Wo

Land Art piece invited HKU Land Visions: Experiencing Land Art in Hong Kong 2016Â

City is expanding rapidly while more and more villages are shrinking. Villagers of Lai Chi Wo moved to the city to make a living and abandoned their village. In this revitalization project, we intended to build a pottery kiln in Lai Chi Wo and; to educate the villagers to make use of the kiln to produce ceramic tiles with the local materials for repairing the traditional Hakka houses. The pottery kiln acts as a new “heart to the village that draws more human activities. This is a gesture of self-sustaining living style in the village.

Restaurant Renovation Japanese and Malaysia restaurant at MaOnShan, MongKok, Hong Kong Joint venture design project with Imagnative, Vine Group

The Japanese and Malaysia restaurant. We get involved in assisting on the restaurant design. The design challenge which is that two restaurants are sharing the same kitchen but pretend to be 2 separated restaurants within one site. We presented the culture identities to attach the customers. The Client also further applied the same design concept in 2 places, Mong Kok and Ma On Shan. Both sites are inside shopping mall. Furthermore, the schedule is very tight. Finally, the restaurants only took 40 days from design to finish in one site! Though we have not participated in the construction site supervision, we produce all the construction drawings and detailing.

K House

Serenity Park, Tai Po, Hong Kong

This flat of 355 ft2 is designed for a newly wed couple who are at their early 30. They are eager for an open space allowing individual actvities. After work, they used to taking a nap on the couch and watching movie. Both of them have least demand on materials but high demand on space.

40

To enhance the sense of space, the circulation for daily activities was extended through layout design. By combining the bedroom with the living room, sunlight can be introduced to every corner of the flat. Instead of defining the space by wall, the flat is divided into three main areas by level differences: Living area (the lowest), working and dinning area (the 1st platform) and the bedroom (the 2nd platform). 41

42

The bedroom is seperated from the dinning area by a wardrobe and a sliding door is set back to increase its privacy. For the sake of keeping the flat tidy effortlessly, habits of the couple are carefully considered with some detail design such as hanging hooks on the wall for jackets and raise up space at the bottom of the full height cabinet for shoes.
