MESS MAGAZINE

Talk that mess T he exposure that comes along with publishing first issue can be overwhelmingly huge – thousands of questions, offers and collaborations are definitely the most realistic and toughest part of running a magazine. We think that magazine should be highly inspirational and creative place.

A lot of people ask us what exactly ‘Mess’ means. We always answer that Mess is that unstoppable, natural and creative flow of energy that we all may have, reagardless of age, country or skin color. Sometimes that energy is really powerful and does not let you sleep, eat or go out of home. It is a natural law that tells you to CREATE, sometimes in chaotic, unknown way. Do you understand that statement? Have you ever felt this way? If the answer is yes, you know what the Mess is all about. Now let’s talk more about the artistic aspect. The first issue of Mess Magazine is aesthetitically faithful to feminine and sensual approach to Fashion and Art. We’ve decided to show the radiance of women’s beauty that can manifest in any creative form or artistic approach. We strongly believe that Universe is made from dual elements and we wanted to show the opposite emotions that perfectly describe particluar situation or moment on the pictures. Mixing certain characteristics of every model has been helping us to to maintain a harmony in the whole issue. Unique and forceless style of every photographer that has published his pictures in Mess, builds a perfect vision of natural, sexual and chic women. You will be able to go across editorials that expose these two types of girls - sophisticated, strong and confident Divas to fragile, vulnerable, shy girls. The shoots from first issue can be taken in two very different ways – realistic and present or delusional and artistic. You have absolute right and freedom to choose which way you want to choose. Let your perspective be more dreamy, messy and creative! The first editorial is called ‘Art is Sexual’ and that is also a theme of a first issue. Seemingly, Art has nothing to do with Sexuality, even though many artists show their artworks in outrageously sexual way. Let’s scope that thing deeply. Art is all about expressing

your ideas, visions through any accessible way: paper, clay or linen and showing your artworks to amaze, surprise, outrage, stand out or change some mental or social statement. What is Sexuality then? It is inner energy that lives inside of every single person on this planet. It can manifest anytime, anywhere and have different forms. You may also have sexual visions, fantasies or ideas that live inside of your head. Sometimes sexuality is used to cause a stir, just like the Art – to bring the attention of people. In other words, Art and Artistry is really similar to Sexuality. They both exist in our heads and can appear at any time and place. The combination of Art and Sexuality can bring creative solutions for everything, even for Mess. I wish you reading this first issue of Mess Magazine with huge pleasure and an apettite for more. I’m hoping that 11 super feminine editorials will bring you lots of inspiration, creative energy and motivation to make your dreams come true. Remember: „The women does not have to wear gold chains to glow, the simplicity is the ultimate key to be naturally beautiful.” 5 hottest trends of SS 2014 will inspire you to change your style and show off your body. Get inspired by 5 shows from top fashion designers such as Miu Miu, Kenzo, DKNY, Michael Kors and Celine. Read about upcoming London Fashion Week ( we will be there on February!) team KASIA Kasia is highly energetic, high-vibe person who is obsessively in love with Fashion and Art. She cannot starts her day with writing about latest campaigns, shows and trends! She is a little fashion psycho and that’s why we love her. Her enthusiasm and humour always bring amazing atmosphere to the team! Except for fashion Kasia constantly seeks for more knowledge of just about everything - starting with cinema and literature, ending up with space science and quantum physics If you still haven’t read any of Kasia’s articles, you definitely should!

KAROLINA

Karolina is the kind of person who wants to be everywhere and therefore she travels a lot. She comes back with her head full of inspirations, but according to her, nothing adds more glam to your life than just a simple smile! She talks a lot and she’s stubborn, she would spend her last money on a ticket to the cinema - which is adorable, even if it causes some future problems with more neccessary purchases (more neccessary to other people, of course!). Her “Wall of Love” is a collage of pictures, post cards, tickets, funny quotes - everything that happens to her lands on that wall and it’s pretty amazing.

Gracjan Gracjan is one of those people who are a constant inspiration! He brings a lot of his fashion enthusiasm and compelling personality to the process of creating Mess Magazine. He has white eyebrows, but just recently has changed his style language to a more classic one (and now he resembles an actual human being!). Gracjan always says that suffering is a pleasure (but we’re pretty sure he didn’t mean that literally) and he starts every single day with a ritual of checking the fashion news. His favourite designer is Alexander McQueen and his favourite cover - doesn’t matter as long as Kate Moss is on it!

Justyna

Justyna is the head of all the photoshoots for Mess Magazine - she discusses and plans all of them with our editor in chief, Dominika. The magazine couldn’t exist without her! She’s a business and management student, her passion are social media, couching and - obviously - fashion. She tried it as a model (she went in a few shows during Fashion Week in Łódź), but she decided to stick with MessMag and she devoted 100% of her time to it. Whenever she’s not thinking about new editorials, Justyna watches old polish movies, and in the summertime, she likes to ride her longboard. Her biggest dream? A job as a head of information department in Vogue!

DOMINIKA She is the heart and the soul of this magazine. She’s also a brain of it - Dominika spends 18 hours a day working on Mess Magazine, coming up with the new ideas and patiently answering all of the other people’s questions. You have to be really passionate about what you do to be able to do it seven days a week and still feel the same excitement all along! But other than being a determined decision-maker, crazy fashion lover and generally a renaissance girl, Dominika is also an incredibly kind and open person, friendly enough to text the people she works with, asking a work non-related question like “How are you doing today?”. Now, wouldn’t you like to have a boss like that?

As creating this issue was a long way that required lot’s of tips, we would like to give our special thanks to all of those who provided us with their help - photographers, web developers and all the people who participated in the whole process. Backstage stories that will make you take more selfies

A

ll people that are in love with fashion love to see ‘a little sneak peak’ before the offical launch of magazine. That’s why we love to post backstages from Mess photo shoots, preparation proccesses and mood boards on social media channels. We believe that we can connect with more targeted people and also friends of friends by sharing what we do and what we love.

Are you ready for undeniably stupid dose of Rumours and some quick explanation where they all came from? Read this article and next day you can easily cause the stir on your street!

What is a Rumour and what is a Fact? You’ve probably already seen most of our backstage pictures or inspirations on Facebook or Instagram, but you’ve never heard about stories that happened during that time. We all have our little secrets, but who likes to reveal them? I think nobody. Un(fortunately) we are complete nonconformists so we will let you know what has happened and has not happened when we were there. You will need to choose – is that a rumour or just a backatge story? It is your turn, but we know you don’t have to know all of the spice in fashion world and that’s why we’ll explain it here. Now.

6

MESS MAGAZINE

Backstage Stories can be more lucrative than the big contracts. Just because of two important reasons such as: 1. The Mess that comes along with all of the preparation proccess as well as the execution on the set, e.g. Not having any clothes on the shoot and dressing the models only in panties. 2. Bigger expectations. Bigger Mess and Coverage. Just inform everyone that you’re doing a shoot with Kate Moss and make them talk that Mess! 3. Have you ever wondered why celebrities become so famous that everyone is obsessively looking for the information about them? No matter if it is the newest nose surgery or affair with ‘Hollywood dream boy’. Google never lies, or at least TMZ.

Stories build the thrilling attention around people that want to be famous, just because of their narcissist nature. These so called ‘rumours’ make celebrities shine their own light with the help of media that commonly sells the information about their exciting and not available for average person lives. Sometimes, people do not recognize the difference between rumours and the facts. Remember – rumours are usually made by the celebritites themselves, but facts are usually fake. That’s why we hear more about the rumours, not the facts. Celebrities and their ‘friends’ give their stories to the magazines for promotion and future contracts and media sells it for big cash.

one day, but they have NEVER been shot. The crew took money for their work *they didnt do anything. They were unforgettably rude and didn’t know about ANY organizations steps that we had made before the shoot. These people were playing like they wouldn’t know what they have to do! No They were literally the wolves that were trying to kill each other. They didn’t do anything. They took the money and they did a shoot for themselves that has never been published. How can somebody act this way? We won’t reveal the names, but these ‘people’ weren’t a professionalists.

Win-win. So you would ask - „Why people buy it and most of READ IT?” The truth is really scary: 1. They love to read about someone else’s life. 2. They do not know about this proccess and think that celebrity is a goddess. I think after reading that you would agree with me and stop reading gossip portals and magazines. But who said that you can’t read backstage story that nobody has heard? So let’s just say that this ‘Backstage relation’ is a rumour and we made it. Instagram is our ‘media’. And who are the celebrities? Models, photographers and fashion designers that have worked on this issue with Mess Magazine. Are you ready for the rumour journey? The Mess has just begun. Stress, hectoliters of water, sweat, tones of the most fabulous clothes and the crew. Usually young, talented photographer that is keen on doing anything in exchange of great material. Jumping, crawling, twerking to have fun (we didn’t say it!), bending, standing on the roof, sitting on the cold floor for 6 hours, pretending to be a breeze or wave. We’ve said enough. We won’t reveal anything except few rumours crawling around the city. Who, when and why – the party has just started! The first shoot that we did for Mess was an undeniable and complete disaster. There was actually no shoot at all. We were meant to do 2 shoots in

The rest of the shoots were really fuuun! We had amazing photographers, models and fashion designers that came up with all of the ideas that you can see in this issue! Amazing crew including make up artists, hair stylists and stylists were just our number ones! There was a lot of laughter and funny situations on the set. The atmosphere was highly inspirational and creatively artistic! We know that it could have been always better, but next issue is definitely gonna be better! We promise you this! Now see some of our backstage pictures that proves all those things! MESS MAGAZINE

TRENDS SS ‘14

A

nother year’s behind us but, quoting Anna Wintour, “fashion is not about looking back, it’s always about looking forward”. Let’s take a look then at MessMag team predictions about what will make it as the biggest trends for the next season!

Make it short!

If you were fond of this little “back-to-90s” trend, you will be glad that cropped tops are staying with us for at least one more season (and let’s hope for more...). Why do we love them so much? Because of the wide range of outfits you can fix them with. If you’re feeling laid-back and casual (and - just a bit of advice - very self-confident) you can wear low waist jeans or skirts. And for the special occasions - wear a basic black cropped top with a pencil skirt! It’s still classy, but with a 8

MESS MAGAZINE

captivating vibe. All eyes on you! Our favourite of this kind? Balenciaga elegant set - look how unprovocarive and graceful can this trend be if worn in a right way.

Make it wider!

Make your pants wider, to be exact. The runways for spring season shows were dominated by wide leg pants, so we predict this will be the big hit. Celebrities and fashionistas have been forcing this trend for a while now and we’re pretty sure that soon enough the streets will be moving like a huge ocean wave, created by loose pantlegs. Black and white are the safe choice of colors that will always look good, but you can also try going out of your comfort zone and buy yourself a pair in strong orange color! (Or any other color you like).

Make it colorful!

Picking on when we ended the pants issue - we encourage you to include as many colors as you can into your daily wardrobe choices. And fashion designers encourage you to do that as well, by combining the entire color palette in their shows there’s Kenzo’s marine blue, Chanel’s raspberry pink, Prabal Gurung’s pastel green... If you’re used to wearing the basic black-grey-white tones you don’t have to revolutionize your entire personal style (part of a good personal style is being consistent with it, so don’t give up on that). But try to brighten up your outfits with the little things - maybe a pink top under the black jacket instead of a white one?

Make it simple!

If you’re looking for a perfect coat, remember not to choose a too decorative one - it’s best to keep it simple this time. Don’t mark your waist too much, don’t put any sparkling elements. Take a look at Camille Over the Rainbow - a popular London blogger - in her brilliant outfit (which doesn’t

really go along with our “Make it colorful!” rule, but we love it anyway). The coat is classy (everything created by Burberry brand just has to ne classy) and you can wear it over just about anything.

Make it sharp! The last one - we’re not so sure about this, but where would be the fashion fun without a little bit of risk? The pointy flats. They came last season and weren’t too visible on the streets, so here they come again. To be completely honest - they tend to look like elves footwear if you’re not wearing them properly, but try them in basic model fixed with a decorative dress or other way round - this way you”ll avoid the “too much” effect. They lenghten the feet, so it’s probably best to stick to the regular ballerinas if you’re the vertically challenged type... Although, who are we to tell you how to play in your own fashion field? Give it a try! We particularly love the Nicolas Kirkwood pair - with white dress and golden jewellery, we have no doubts this would be the eye-catching combination - in a good way!

h s i W s a m t s i r Ch Karl Lagerfeld A s Christmas comes and we all get into this holiday mood, we try to think about what was good and what is yet to be improved in our lives. Mariah Carey’s most popular season song “All I want for Christmas” reminds us that it is also the time of making wishes - so we sit and meditate on what would complete our wellbeing in the upcoming 365 days. I don’t usually make wishes, but this year I’ve decided to make an exception. So here it goes. This Christmas I wish for Karl Lagerfeld to stop making films. I must say, I’m very passionate about both fashion and film industry and I love when those two meet together. When I’m watching a movie I always check out the costumes and the more thorough they are the more authentic the movie feels (first example that comes to my mind is this year’s quite controversial hit The Great Gatsby - the critics argued about almost every detail in that production except for one part of it - the amazing garments created by Prada). It has also started to work in the opposite direction - the great actors and directors are being invited to collaborate on 10

short fashion adds. If you haven’t seen it yet, go and have a look at Polański’s “Therapy” for Prada (starring Helena Bonham Carter and Ben Kingsley) or Wes Anderson’s “Candy L’eau” (again, for Prada, starring Léa Seydoux, whom he had liked so much he decided to cast her in his new movie “The Grand Budapest Hotel”). Now I made it sound like it’s just Prada getting along with that trend, so let me enumerate some other of those ‘couture house - film director’ collabs: Baz Luhrmann for Chanel (2004), Sofia Coppola for Miss Dior in 2008 (and most recently - for Marni line for H&M), David Lynch for Dior (yes, that’s correct, the name of the video is “Lady Blue”). Harmony Korine, best known for his peculiar movie “Spring Breakers”, directed an unbelieveably creepy film called “Snowballs” for Proenza Schouler and even Martin Scorsese got convinced to work on “Bleu de Chanel” add. I could go on and on like this, so I’d like to finish this list with a feature-lenght movie directed by a fashion designer, Tom Ford - “A Single Man”. Let me just tell you, that movie is better than half of the stuff you can see at the cinema.

Fashion Icons Fashion Icons Fashion Icons Fashion Icons

So knowing that fashion and film are now bound together tightly and that Karl Lagerfeld is a man of many talents, I understand why he tried it in the movies area. But sometimes to try is enough. This has been bothering me ever since “Once Upon a Time” was released - am I really the only one here to think those films are just bad? The scripts are superficial, most of the lines are unnecessary or just badly written, the characters are built... no, they’re actually not built at all, they just appear and disappear from the screen, having no impact on the audience whatsoever. As if the script itself wasn’t terrible enough, the acting doesn’t help, quite the opposite. Keira Knightley and Geraldine Chaplin are trying to make all of this work as both of them are portraying the main star here, Coco Chanel, but even with their professional help this character remains flat. And most of the cast members in all of those movies are models, who look

great in the frame, but have no acting skills, like for example Kristen McMenamy in “The Tale of a Fairy” - never before in my entire life I had seen a protagonist that forced and unnatural not in an interesting, but rather repulsive way. Two things that are amazing in those films are camerawork (the one thing that Karl Lagerfeld didn’t take credit for) and costumes, though if Creative Director fo Chanel directed three movies, two of them about Chanel, and the costumes were bad - well, that would have been a real bummer. So that’s it - these are all the reasons why I think Karl Lagerfeld shouldn’t be directing any more movies. When he releases them, as a fashion person you have to see them, because you need to be able to have conversation about them, but deep down inside you know it’s just gonna be another 20 minutes of your life you’ll never get back...

red lips, blue hair, over 2000 dresses, countless jewellery pieces, a walking cane and some defiant eccentricity - this is the description that matches one person and one person only. A a great icon. An amazing writer. A kind and humorous person. Anna Piaggi. Born in Milan, she came from a well educated family, so she was sent to attend a boarding school. After a while Anna realised this was not the world she could fit in very well - strict bans and orders didn’t go along with her free spirit nature. She left the school, wandered around the world as an au pair (that’s probably where she picked up those six languages, in all of which she could fluently speak and write). When she met her husband, who was a professional photographer, her career in fashion begun.

Some people consider her personal style silly and eccentric for the purpose of getting other’s attention. I understand where is that coming from, but the question is - would Anna Piaggi really get away with her quirks if it was all fake? She was Karl Lagerfeld’s muse in 60’s and 70’s and his dear friend long after that, don’t you think he would sense the mockery? Not to mention other people coming from different fashion industry branches that adored her personality and her style. Come to think of it, they were both complementary. Anna Piaggi was geniuenly an extraordinary person and the dazzling, caleidoscopic appearance came as a bonus to complete her whole image. In 1999 Piaggi released a book called “Anna Piaggi’s Fashion Agebra: D.P. in Vouge”. If you were ever wondering what was happening inside this great editor’s mind, take a look at

this. The book consists of Vouge Italia featured Double Pages that captured the essence of fashion at the time they were created. At first messy (we like that) and incomprehensible, once you take a second glance and look closely - it was a mood-board for the entire fashion world. No wonder why the idea of putting the DPs into a larger publication became so popular - it was a massive inspiration source for editors, writers, designers and other artists. Anna was a perfomer, but a very honest one. She liked to bring her style to the extreme point, as she was an extreme person in the full sense of that word. Described by her friends she appears to be brilliant in everything she did - an excellent writer, a picky editor, a flamboyant estethe. And she will be remembered for all those things altogether, because that is who she was - not just a flashy outfit, but a person admired for her artistry.

he wanted. Firstly, he started designing theatrical costumes for Angels and Bermans. Few years later he graduated very prestigious college - Central St. Martins College of Art in London, without any educational background.

His story seems to be a fairy tale – son of taxi driver, bullied and teased many times due to his homosexuality, became one of the most recognizable fashion designers in history. Alexander McQueen was born in London’s East End in 1969. As a 16-year-old boy dropped out of school and started working on Savile Row for Tailor Anderson & Sheppard – niche fashion designers. That was the first time he was hired as a designer and had free will to create what

The turning point in his career was a meeting with a famous stylist Isabelle Blow, who in 1992 bought entirely his provocative collection called “Jack the Ripper”. After that he has been noticed and appreciated by other fashion houses. Four years later for collection inspired by Scottish folk music and its culture, Alexander was awarded the title ”British Designer of the Year” and thus became the main designer of Givenchy. During working for Givenchy he was awarded 3 times for best fashion designer – in 1996, 1997, and 2001, but as he mentioned “Givenchy did not give me freedom to create”. In 2000 he left Givenchy and started working for Gucci. In 2000

lexander McQueen was one of the most inspiring artists that treated fashion as a true art. As a fashion designer he broke all of the effective rules to make people focus on his outrageous, unique and highly innovative collections. His vision, creativity and amazing pieces of clothes had put the attention of all fashion people and made him one of the most significant fashion designers in 90’s.

he was awarded the title “Most Excellent Commander of the British Empire by the Queen of England” and opened few boutiques all around the world. He used to say - “Fashion should be a form of escape, not a prison. I’m not in order to design sweaters and pearls”. He never designed clothes that everyone could wear, did not suffer so banal and obvious forms of dress as trousers, t-shirts or coats. His projects had to give something more, something that common people could not understand. Just have a look of his shows, no one will forget a woman walking on the catwalk with wooden legs and dancing in the air Kate Moss. Death of Alexander McQueen was a big shock for the fashion world. Many people could not believe that he killed himself.

Some people say that he was under big pressure and couldn’t handle the fact that his mother died. He was found dead in his London apartment one day before her funeral. After the death of McQueen, his long friend and codesigner Sarah Burton took over the brand of his name. She tries to model herself on his previous collections and render the character of his controversial ideas. Alexander McQueen will live in our minds forever. His projects are immortally indispensable and unforgettable. We can still admire his creations at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City where his incredible collections are shown for thousands of people.

We could have seen the mix of classical buttoned coats, skirts, vivid wool tights and high lace-up shoes. Miuccia definitely took one step ahead and showed a collection that perfectly shows the contrast between elegant, classical materials and extravagant, brave and neon screaming outfits. Designer described her vision after the show as “Classics, classics of trash, classics of chic, classics of the good girl, classics of the bad girl.” Miuccia Prada is one of the biggest names in the industry and definitely she has changed the fashion world by creating unforgetttably creative, uncompromising and sometimes weird collections that couldn’t be understood by people with average style. Every single collection mixes seemingly ill-fitting pieces, from different decades that represent different styles and personal characteristics that come along with history. Miuccia never stopped surpring us by her huge fashion conceptions that change and expand every season. 16

Those powerful designs give undeniable chance to change your style in the blink of an eye by mixing and matching feminine and romantic coats and skirts with pretty and rebelious lace-up boots and childish tights Moreover there ain’t no rules in this collection – Miuccia broke the boundaries again and showed a sexy, strong and confident woman that loves to stand out from the crowd and amaze the others, but she cannot resign from girly, sweet and innocent image from childhood. With this collection, you can become whoever you really wanna be - from chic and seductive Parisian to eclectic businesswoman. Prada with no doubt achieved her goal - she gave the freedom of creativity to all independent women that want to be themselves and wear few styles simultaneously without the compulsion of following one, particular way to dress.

KENZO

Collection for Spirng 2014

A

s many things are changing in fashion, there is at least one constant - we can always count on Kenzo collections to be absolutely fresh and fantastic. The Spring Summer 2014 designs are all that we usually look for when we walk into the Kenzo boutique - the sporty glam we love so much, only redefined – this time the mixed ingredients are classy tailoring and LA beach life. The element that adds a little spice to the dish? Patterns! On the runway we saw all kinds of graphic forms that are far from tight-skin description – for the prototype of them we must search at California architecture. The genius lays in how light they manage to look on all those skinny models. The clothes are not drowning them despite all the width, but are giving them this desired, laid-back attitude, while still saving their grace. And isn’t that the very essence of Kenzo? The choice of patterns plays a crucial part in achieving the effect of delicacy in such rough structures. The purity in shapes is enriched with the chaotic lines on some of the pieces, it is also nice to see white and blue in some other combination than marine stripes (which are great, but they aren’t the only option here). And it is a relief that our beloved cropped tops will be there for one more season, this time a little bit more diversified, with sophisticated wavy cuts… Speaking of waves – it is hard to overlook an obvious inspiration for this collection. The reason for all the navy blue to appear on most of the designed items is the powerful, infinite in it’s grandeur and beauty ocean. Unique aquatic motives are hand drawn and the most amazing thing is that when the material moves along with the model it actually resembles water.

In spite of how consequent the collection’s been designed, Humberto Leon and Carol Lim also took care of its diversity, so while there is a lot of coherence in this season’s lookbook, there is absolutely no dullness. What’s not to like about it then?

CELINE

Collection for Spirng 2014

I

t wasn’t too long ago when the world got insane about the Céline bag “Luggage”. It actually wasn’t too long ago when people got insane about the Céline collections in general. The brand was created in 1945 as a children shoes store, then transformed into women shoes and accessories store to release the first ready-to-wear line in 1960. But what was the breaking point? It wasn’t naming Michael Kors the creative director, which is surprising as he is now one of the most respected designers in the world. It was giving the brand to Phoebe Philo. Remember that name, because in less than four years she has brought Céline to the top and does not intend to go below her current standards. The Spring/Summer 2014 collection is already a hit, though it surprised the audience around the world. The designs lack their usual minimalism for the advantage of asymmetrical lines, strong colors and bold jewellery. Philo claims that she was inspired by Brassai graffiti, but as usual she didn’t overanalise it. What she wanted to capture in the collection was strenght and the effect is visible. The models on the catwalk look fierce and they owe it to the clothes they’re wearing. The forceful prints on the delicate fabrics seem like a modern armor for warriors of everyday battles (even those small ones). Philo didn’t create the concept of an independent, powerful woman, but responded to it. It’s true that many designers before her dedicated their collections the same woman prototype, but it’s because the request for them is still upto-date. The ladies are taking over the world and they want to dress the way that shows both 22

their firmness and femininity. The challenge is to serve that combination as long as is needed, but with no signs of repeatability or monotony. And the Céline SS 2014 collections meets all of those requirements. No wonder why the line to Céline show was so long - the designs are mesmerizing every season. But just when we thought there won’t be any radical changes in the brand’s style, we got a bit startled. Let’s hope for every surprise to be that pleasant!

And when you look closely, you see the little things that ensures you the pieces were created specifically for women, like beautiful, matching handbags, fur elements and subtle patterns on some of the fabrics. Our favorites are oversized camel coats, cosy sweaters and lovely cigarette pants with unique motives. We also love all the flat shoes - they go along perfectly with all the outfits without feeling of missing some of the elegance! And just think about how comfortable they must be...

The collection seduced us with simplicity which, yet again, turned out to be the key to a great success!

his year collection of DKNY’s was really special, because of the meaning and purpose hidden under the catwalk’s silhouettes. It’s been 25 years since Ms Karan’s designs took over the whole world and hit the hearts of all fashionistas. Her unique perception of culture and fashion originated in creating timeless, but modern, elegant, but sporty, urban style that inspired artists and fashion designers to include iconic elements in their work inspired by street style fashion. Brand logos, huge signs, oversized clothes and menswear inspired outfits became the most repeatable combinations in the streets of fashion capitols such as New York, Paris, Milan or London. Karan is definitely the queen of mixing distinctly opposite elements and materials, she is showing sporty, baggy and oversized jumpsuits, parkas and hooded sweatshirts with slinky, minimalistic and highly elegant A-line dresses, suits and trench coats. Karan’s philosophy of sporty nonchalance, minimalistic elegance, bold and brash brand logos and a dose of masculine style has changed not only New Yorkers style forever. Ms Karan wanted to truly celebrate the 25th anniversary of DKNY and prepared superstar collection of best-selling hits that have been shown in the catwalks already years ago. Definitely it was a great occasion for DKNY Team to reinnovate old pieces and show them in new, exciting prepositions for all fans of urban, funky and fun style. Joan Smalls kicked the show off in oversized, denim jumpsuit paired with immortal combination of white shirt and navy blazer and sporty baseball cap. The silhouettes swiftly transitioned through variety of different styles that made sense of coherency of the show. We could have seen many great pieces that would create a perfect outfit with strong personality. Singer and DKNY’s campaign star Rita Ora closed the show wearing brand logo t-shirt and transparent, mesh skirt.

Golden Globes BEST LOOK

Winner of the night - Amy Adams looked very pretty in Valentino gown. It’s not too spectacular, very minimalistic and even modest we would say. What’s not to like?

Sofia Vergara chose the master of red carpets to be the creator of her gown and she pulled the dramatic look like nobody else could have! The baby blue collar brightens up the look and we think it’s just perfect.

There are designers that we can’t imagine create a bad dress (like Oscar de la Renta) and there are people we just can’t imagine to look bad - at all. And that’s Margot Robbie. Especially when she’s wearing the simple, but spectacular Gucci dress! We hope to see more of Margot on the big screen (and then on the red carpet) after her successful debut in The Wolf of Wallstreet.

MESS MAGAZINE

This actually comes as a surprise, but Taylor Swift is usually one of the best celebrities on any red carpet she walks through. And this year’s Golden Globes was no exception - she looked stunning in raspberry and black Carolina Herrera gown.

There are no words to describe how well this Emilia Wickstead gown looks on Caitlin Fitzgerald (and how well those multi-colors heels go with the gown). Notice no overwhelming jewellery, no fierce make-up - just the interesting cut and heart-warming color. Less is more, or it may actually be “the most”.

Emma Watson and her startling approach to Dior dress... We’ve been thinking about that look a lot and we came to a conclusion that yes, it’s super weird, but rather in a compelling than dreadful way. So all thumbs up - how can we be against experimenting with fashion if the results are good?

What could possibly go wrong if you’re wearing Oscar de la Renta for the big event? Nothing, but it doesn’t change the fact, that Zooey Deschanel has this captivating charm of a little girl which enhances the aesthetic values of total look. Yes, we love Zooey, just like the rest of the world!

Golden Globes WORST LOOK

Well, we all expected more from Julia Roberts. In this particular Dolce&Gabbana dress she reminds us of our pre-school teacher at the beggining of the school year - she could just as well pick the Golden Globe and start teaching geography. Julia - please, loose the white, blouse-alike top!

Ok, now can somebody explain how did this happen? No belt, wrong shoes and apparently no touch of an iron! I bet Prabal Gurung wasn’t too excited to see Sandra Bullock in his dress on the red carpet like that. We’re really unimpressed with what’s going on in that picture, mostly because there’s 99% chance nobody will ever wear this dress again...

Cate Blanchett was probably prepared for the events of receiving a Globe and she did her job well. But is well all Cate could offer? The Armani Privé gown is beautifull, but it looks a bit heavy on tiny Mrs Blanchett and the word that comes to our minds is just “correct”. Could have been better. MESS MAGAZINE

Via condotti street

V

ia Condotti Street is definitely one of the most fashionable streets in Rome, Italy. The inhabitants of Rome admit that this is the place where Italian history of fashion has begun. It is a true mekha for all fashion lovers and celebrities. You can find there an inspiration in every single corner of this city. The Condotti Street starts in Piazza di Spagna with monumental, known from the magnificent fashion shows Spanish Steps.

The glory of these famous steps hasn’t deminished at all since 1725 when they were ofically inaugurated by Pope Benedict XII. Over many years, people were coming to Rome to contemplate this amazing architectural style of stairs that we could have seen many times in Hollywood movies such as “La Chica de Via Condotti” which literally means “Girl of Via Condotti”. Undeniably beautiful Spanish Steps inspired not only directors and movie makers to come to Rome, but also many other artists and exhibitors that organise annually flower, dance or art festivals that attract tourists from all around the world.

What else attracts fans of romantic atmosphere of Via Condotti Street? Definitely historical caffes that are located all over the Condotti Street. For example, “Antico Caffe Greco”, commonly called by the Italians “Caffe Greco”. It is the second oldest cafe in the whole Italy (older is only one Venetian cafe). “Caffee Greco” was established in 1760. It was founded by Greek named Nicola della Maddalena. It hosted many tremendously famous artists and writers such as Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Hans Christian Andersen, Juliusz Słowacki or Adam Mickiewicz - creators of Polish Romantic period time. Amongst the Spanish Steps there is one very important place that commemorates the flood in 1598 – ship shaped fountain. For all fashion and shopping fans Condotti Street gives amazing oppurtinity to shop the latest collections from the biggest fashion houses such as Prada, Gucci, Cartier, Ferragamo, Bulgari, Louis Vuitton, Hermes and Valentino
