Design Innovation & Dining Hub (d.i.Hub) Kent, Ohio / 2020 (est.) The new d.i.Hub will occupy the 1972 Art Building designed by Australian architect John Andrews. The adaptive reuse of the iconic 65,000 SF space, scheduled for completion in 2020, will include full interior and exterior renovations, as well as a significant dining component that serves the entire campus - a unique feature for the Innovation Center / Maker Space building typology. The adaptive reuse of the Art School into a 21st century Innovation Hub will provide a platform for continuous engagement and constant tactical and adaptive improvements well into its future. This new center will focus on design thinking and entrepreneurship across multiple academic disciplines and include advanced collaborative workspaces and maker spaces. The dining venue will seat approximately 350 people served through multiple service methods. The building will be LEED Silver certified as a minimum goal. Domokur Architects is teamed with national design firm, Bohlin Cywinski Jackson for this project. DI HUB, ENLARGED VIEW

Tri-Towers Rotunda Adaptive Reuse Kent, Ohio / 2014 Domokur Architects was the Architect of Record for the Tri-Towers Rotunda renovation project as part of the Design-Build team with Gilbane Building Company. Tri-Towers is a complex of three residence hall towers surrounding a central hub referred to as “The Rotunda”. The Gilbane-Domokur team previously completed a $30M+ renovation and exterior envelope/facade face-lift of the adjacent three tower structures. The Rotunda project completed much of the deferred maintenance work and included the renovation of the first-floor Area Desk, replacement of the exterior curtain wall system, and renovation/repurposing of existing, recently-vacated second floor spaces into a satellite fitness/recreation area and centralized laundry facility. The second-floor renovations include a fitness/recreation area and centralized laundry facility. On-campus residents have exclusive access to the workout space, which is open seven days a week. The 7,000-square-foot “Tri-Rec” includes more than 70 brand-new exercise machines and free weights. Many students have remarked that they enjoy the convenience of being able to get their laundry done while they work out (previously the laundry facilities were dispersed throughout the residence tower buildings). That, coupled with the diner and market just downstairs, makes The Rotunda an excellent example of the University’s Student Wellness initiative.

Olson Center for Undergraduate Excellence Kent, Ohio / 2015 The Olson Center for Undergraduate Excellence occupies a prominent location on the University Esplanade at Kent State University. Domokur Architects worked closely with the University to come up with a new design for the Center that will create a pedestrian-friendly entrance embracing the Esplanade that reflects a cohesive, contemporary, and welcoming identity for the Office of Undergraduate Studies. Within the Center, the building that was originally built as a dining hall has been redesigned into collaborative spaces that foster learning and collegiate success. An intuitive circulation pattern and thoughtfully-placed corridors allow the interior spaces to be filled with natural light, secure yet accessible, and suited to the programmatic needs of several departments that are housed within the building. This project has been certified LEED Gold.

North Central State College Fallerius Building Addition Mansfield, Ohio / 2010

This project involved a two-story addition to the existing Fallerius Technical Center building. The addition accommodated a new main entrance to the building as well as administrative offices and a student learning center/student lounge providing students with a quality learning environment. Construction phase planning was required to facilitate the ongoing uses and operations of the existing building throughout the construction period. One of the major goals of this project was to create a new front entrance and to define the image of the campus. The development of a detailed Program of Requirements was part of the services provided. The project incorporated sustainable design principles and addressed several accessibility issues within the existing building.

Tri-Towers Residence Hall Rehabilitation/ Renovation Kent, Ohio / 2014 Phased over three years, Domokur Architects provided full architectural services for this LEED Silver, comprehensive rehabilitation of three old and unpopular residence halls at Kent State University. Beginning with initial infrastructure upgrades to the six elevators and shared utility tunnel in 2012, the total scope of the project included a complete replacement of the HVAC systems, as-needed repair to the exterior brick work and replacement of all windows. Student rooms were upgraded for comfort both in terms of interior design and through the inclusion of room-specific HVAC controls. On the tenth floor of Wright and Koonce, ten student rooms were transformed into open gathering areas referred to as “Sky Lounges, while each floor in all three halls have smaller study, glass-walled study lounges.

Kent State University Math Emporium Kent, Ohio / 2011

KSU's Office of the University Architect took an innovative approach in addressing the 20,000 SF of aging facilities that make up the second floor of the University Library, a building dating to 1970. To maximize pedagogical effectiveness, they decided to rehabilitate the space into a new center for interactive learning to give students more tools for academic success, specifically regarding core math skills. A drastic improvement in the functionality and aesthetic value of this space, the Math Emporium provides students with an engaging and technically advanced center for interactive learning. In addition to the learning spaces, the meeting areas and reception spaces are visibly located for easy access to students. Our furniture choices took into account the space’s heavy reliance upon technology, while some of the original architectural flavor was maintained through incorporating portions of the original brickwork into the design palette. This project demonstrates the success possible in renovating aging spaces into new, bright pedagogical environments. devreseR sthgiR llA stcetihcrA rukomoD 1102 thgirypoC Š

Pennsylvania Avenue Residence Halls Renovation - Phases 1 and 2 Champaign, Illinois / 2014 - 2017 Domokur Architects provided design, bid/award, and construction services to the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign at multiple locations across the campus. The first project was a multi-phase remodel/reconfiguration of the existing multi-user restroom space into eight single-use restrooms within the existing footprint of the present restroom space on each floor of two residence halls (Babcock Hall and Saunders Hall). This remodel provides flexibility in assigning floors on a coeducational basis, improves privacy and comfort, and accessible accommodations. The scope of work for the project required architectural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, structural, and environmental services. To ensure minimal interruption to student comfort, construction was completed entirely during the summer break of 2015. Domokur was then selected to continue with Phase 2 of the project which is a similar scope to Phase 1 but at adjacent halls (Blaisdell Hall and Carr Hall) in the same complex. Construction took place during the summer break of 2017.

Domokur Architects provided design, bid/award, and construction services to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign at multiple locations across the campus. As a result of our strong working relationship with UIUC and a demonstrated commitment of excellent service, we have been selected for deferred maintenance renovation work at 13 buildings throughout the campus over the last 2 1/2 years. This project is the second of a multiple phase project to renovate restrooms in multiple buildings across the UIUC campus. The scope of work included the renovation of multiple existing restrooms in the Henry Administration Building (built 1912) , the Architecture Building (built 1927), the Natural Resources Building (built 1939), and Bevier Hall (built 1956). Work generally included new finishes, partitions, accessories, lighting, plumbing fixtures, MEP upgrades, and potential reconfiguration of the restrooms to meet code, ADA, and program requirements. This project implemented a two-phased construction schedule, with work being completed during the fall/winter of 2017 and the summer of 2018.

Bowling Green State University

Huntington Administrative Building Renovation Bowling Green, Ohio / 2015 The Huntington building was constructed in 1989 as a bank regional processing center and consists of one grade level story. This renovation has transformed the building into administrative offices for eight University departments, employing approximately 150 staff, primarily using an open office approach. In addition, the University desired that the image of the building be improved. An important goal is to create a visual connection between it and the remainder of campus, particularly important since this building is located off campus. A new entry design and branding visible from the highway meet this goal. The project was phased in order to allow two of the departments to continue to occupy their current space in the building while construction is ongoing in the remainder of the building, as no swing space is available. Domokur Architects was brought on as a consultant to help lead programming meetings with all University departments involved. Our task included: development of a design that would transform the building to support 21st century office best practices; the development of an Office Planning Document with recommendations for work space environments (that fulfilled the needs of the users); and creating an open collaborative environment desired by the University. We provided a variety of options for office layouts to meet the University’s goal of providing an efficient, functional and contemporary office environment. The programming needs of each group were considered, and presentations made to Constituent groups to assist with the culture change brought about by moving to a more open and collaborative approach to office design. The design team determined detailed project phasing and documented this in the bid documents. This close attention created a plan to complete the project without removing HR staff from the building, and to ensure that the scheduled relocation of Purchasing into the building would happen by August 1.

Bowling Green State University Traditions Quadrangle Feasibility Study Bowling Green, Ohio / 2009

This project was a comprehensive study of four Academic Buildings situated within the locally known “Traditions Quadrangle”. Project Priorities included: planning necessary to design and construct potential outcomes of the study, criteria development and prioritization, analysis of the chronic condition of existing facilities and infrastructure as well as a conceptual analysis of the complex in relation to the Campus Master Plan and Infrastructure Master Plan. At the inception of the Study it was commonly held that these buildings were in an irrecoverable condition. Within the first months of the study the Domokur Architects team reported to BGSU that the buildings are in sound condition and are worthy of rehabilitation. This was a significant turning point in the development of the Study and refocused the Team with the task of finding the best scenario for rehabilitating these four buildings. This crucial study led to the University's Implementation effort called "Traditions to Tomorrow”, representing the single largest investment in academic buildings and learning spaces in the history of BGSU. Projects included the demolition of two buildings, gut renovation of four buildings, all new underground utility infrastructure, new regional chiller plant and significant enabling moves throughout the university. All work drew from the original Facilities Assessment / Feasibility Study.
