Electronic parts factories boosted. They began to selling products with poor quality to Apliu Street's hawkers.

Private buildings have been completed one after another. Malls under the residential towers were the heart of clothes trading.

Because of the success of Apliu street hawker stores, malls began to sell computers and inflected other nearby mall to transform to computing industries.

Covid-19 and the decline of industry bring rooms of opportunity to bind local residents and economy together.

Plugin ‘‘ Can mall be more than just a machine for our merchandise desire, but a community incubator? ’’

Hong Kong, renowned as the ‘’ mall city ‘’, has one mall in every sq mile. They infiltrate day-to-day lives of Hong Kong residents by virtue of its ubiquitous presence. As a result of ungoverned private residential development, podium-tower slots are eroding against urban fabric in old towns. However, can mall be more than just a merchandising machine? Due to the outbreak of COVID19 and transformation of industry, there are more vacant stores in shopping malls. I see those resources as the potential of fostering local economy. Therefore, my thesis aims to explore the possibility of re-forming the mechanism of shopping mall and reinterpreting it into an urban scale by placing three scales of plugin. They, by attaching with shopping malls, aim to utilise and resilie economic resources in the city for poor empowerment. ‘’ City Mall ‘’ emerged when all space drag towards the street - the common place in the city. The system, like a vaccine, aims to advocate another perspective of urban renewal by utilising sustainable urban resource for the future.

‘‘ Re-forming the mechanism of shopping mall and re-interpreting it into an urban scale - the three plugins. ’’ Three types of plugins all have resilience to adjust their kits of part according to society circumstances, while they coordinate with the existing economic resources in the city to offer an institutional path for SDU residents to escape from poverty. ‘’ Plugin 15’’ acts as the conference hall for district council to compile civic voices. It mixes political space into public and commercial space. ‘’ Plugin

2’’ activates an alternative of access from tong lau with new commercial opportunity for SDU residents. ‘’ Plugin 8 ‘’ re-forms the boundary between private and public space and infect existing vacant stores inside the mall into institutional space temporarily, empowering the workforce for SDU residents.

When the shopping centre is facing industrial decay that a large number of vacant stores are infected by the placement of plugins into institutional purposes, rented by the government or NGOs. Some vacant stores merged to be classrooms or workshop spaces.

The building proposed to be a flexible performing art centre, as the radiator stimulating compliment of local culture and heritage in Sunderland. In day time, inviting students to visit from schools in Sunderland, it offers a comprehensive performing art studies in terms of plot-writing, stage/ set and costume design and drama performing training. In night time, it transforms to a theatre facility for medium-scale local performance. Brick curtains play as role to define spaces into three different privacy levels horizontially in more public, less public and more private layers; it works coherently with the vertical layer. Spatial organisation can be changeble in different scale of schools’ visit periods. Numerous scenarios are flexible to apply according to the requirement towards the size of space, preferences of privacy levels and connectivity with other programmes.

The 10000 sq ft office design is located in the new industrial of Shenzhen. It is an innovative sources sharing centre for a German footwear plastic supplier. The material library is proposed to be the key device collecting more than five other companies’ material examples. The scaffold not only allows a definite but flashy framework to showcase more than 200 boxes, but also as the casual space for social interaction. My duty was to deliver from concept design to construction drawing, along with other interior and urban design projects.

URBAN LIVING ROOM: Yiwu Mixed-use Master Planning

Located in a historic site of city centre in Yiwu, the project was at the end of schematic design stage. The crucial objective is create an public commercial social area to propagate the stories of Chaoyang gate in an innovative with public social interaction opportunity. The scheme includes two outdoor commercial streetscape, a shopping mall, three welcoming plazas, sunken plaza and one hotel. Along with other small projects in scale, my duty was providing concept and schematic design on commercial street and hotel.

The research was funded by Hong Kong Institute of Architect and conducted with Jeffrey Cheng and photographer Kris Provoost in a year. The research eventually completed by a 160pages report, 3 public site walks and a public forum.

While the housing component to Hong Kong estates is well documented, there has been no systematic study of estate centres. It is also a critical time to examine estate centres. They are facing encroaching commercial pressure, often at the cost of public space, particularly since half of all estate My interest of estate shopping centre started when centres were privatized in 2004. In collaboration I was doing an observational study in Sun Chui with architectural photographer Kris Provoost, our Estate. CUHK Master of Architecture Year Show 2021: Resonance and Changes

2021 curation Instragram

Every year, graduating students volunteer to organise the architecture year show. From financial sponsorship and venue rental, to exhibition design and logistic, our committee deliver full control on the curation. As the co-president of the committee, I took the role to coordinate with students, the school and external parties. In resonance to the school curriculum changes, the show was presented in a studiobased formate in the first time. Rather than only showcasing the final product, I envisioned to celebrate the show with one-year effort of process, interactive experiences, public forum and sharing sessions.

In last year, two partners and I launched an Instragram page to promote the local Hong Kong culture. The page collects and shares Hong Kong culture in topics of architecture, industry spirit, local lifestyle, etc. We hope to inspire Hongkongers to, sometimes, take a pause looking at the precious cultural fragment surrounding our daily moments. There are more interesting cultures are yet to be revealed in Hong Kong. This year, we jumped out of the box, to organise local architecture tours, online talks, interview, collaboration with musicians to create our first song.
