Why Summer Camp

Why Summer Camp Coming out of school most kids just want to take a long and blissful break without having to worry about anything else, but is this actually helpful when it is all said and done? The truth is that most kids end up coming home from a stress-free summer that didn’t add to their knowledge at all and that doesn’t help them at all in the classroom. Here are some ways that a stony brook summer camp can not only help in school but other aspects of your kid’s life.

Social intelligence This is a great opportunity for your kid to learn to get along with other people in a new environment. If you aren’t one of those people who move around that much then you may find that your kid sticks with the same friends and never goes outside of their comfort zone. This can be a crucial learning experience and can help them build confidence in their ability to make friends. This will help them for the rest of their lives.

Learning a new skill Whether it is one of those outdoor summer camps, music camp, or a sports camp, you can be sure that they will have a condensed curriculum that helps them develop a skill that is applicable and that can help build confidence in their ability to learn something new. The difference between this learning environment and others is that this one is completely focused on one subject that your kid should be excited about. This really enhances and increases the speed of the learning process.

Busy Everyone knows one of the hardest things about the summer sometimes is actually keeping your kids from being bored and getting into trouble. You can try and keep them busy by working them to death or you can give them an opportunity to learn and grow by attending a summer camp. With all of the variety of camps available out there, you will definitely be able to place your child in the camp that they will enjoy and learn the most from.

Job opportunities Most kids that go to a summer camp and then go back the next year may want to eventually work at the selfsame camp. This is a great opportunity as most kids are working fast food or some menial manual labor for the summer. Your kid can be building his/her resume while they continue to learn by teaching and working with other kids. Overall it may cost a little extra money and it may take time out of the summer, but getting your kid out to a summer camp can really help them get ahead in life by helping them develop their social intelligence, their skills, and ultimately keep them busy for the whole summer. Don’t be fooled by people saying that they won’t gain much out of it, or that it is too expensive. You won’t regret giving your kid a chance to be in a new environment with peers while he learns valuable skills for life.
