Online vs. In-class Learning When it comes to learning there are hundreds of ways to get it done, but when it is coming from a known institutions, you may find that there are two major ways: in-class and online. These two learning environments differ in several aspects. Here are some key things to think about when you are deciding which one is best for you.

Focus You need to know how you focus. If you get distracted or bored in class then you may find that being in an organized and structured environment may not be the best place. Online courses can be a great way to get you back on track. Some people find that it is a much more stress free environment when they are at home. While this is true for some people, choosing an online course may not be for everyone.

Advantages of Online When you are working online with your courses, you may find that there is less wasted time. It is really all dependent on you and how you organize yourself and your time. There are many people that find that they are much less restricted by the speed of other students. Most online classes don’t require as much group work either.

Disadvantage of Online You may also find that there are some obvious disadvantages to doing online courses. The first is that you may have less interaction with teachers and students which means there will be less help and advice in the end. Also you won’t be building up your network as easily because you aren’t having personal contact with your associates. Another problem that you may face while doing online coursework will be that you get drowned with homework. While this can happen with in-class work too, it is much more prevalent with online classes because the teacher wants to make sure that you are understanding the concept.

Advantages of In-Class When you are in class, you can receive information in real time. This also means that you are able to ask in real time. You will find that you are able to better understand your teacher and where he wants to take you with your learning. Many have found that teachers are much more lenient and work with you a lot better when you are doing in-class studies as well.

Disadvantages You may find that you are just wasting time as you sit there listening to one lecture after another. A major disadvantage is when you realize that you have to be in class and do homework. This means that you may end up spending twice as much time as someone who does an online class in their own time.

When you compare the two, online and in-class courses are drastically different and may not be tailored to everyone’s needs. This is why it is important to find out how you learn and think. Once you have found that out you can know whether getting an online education is worth your time and effort or whether sticking with the structured environment is better.
