Ten Reasons Grad School Can Be a Better Experience Than Your Bachelor’s Degree Rather than focus on the idea of whether graduate school is cost-efficient or not, I hope to help readers understand that it is better than what they are used to, which should play a part in their decision making process. There are many key differences between grad school and a bachelor’s degree that make it a better option.
First You are among more serious students who want to really master their studies. Many of these students have worked hard to get where they are, just like you, and are not going to mess around. Many students find it refreshing to be around those who want to make a difference with their education and not just get a degree to make money. That being said, there still are many who are there just for the money.
Second As a graduate student there is a sense of respect and added responsibility that is given to you by the university. Many find this to be even more motivational as they are treated a lot better than they were as regular students.
Third Students find a sense of accomplishment alongside their learning as they are able to be involved in research and projects that other students don’t get to do. Many times they are even able to teach other students and thereby fortify their learning.
Fourth As a grad student you will find that although the learning is more intense you will find that the schedule is much more flexible. They are more concerned with your thinking than you attendance.
Fifth There is constantly new material coming out and as a grad student it is your job to be on top of it. This keeps you in the in-crowd.
Sixth Working with intellectuals on a daily bases makes it so that you have a more open mind. Many of the ignorant things that you would hear on a regular day at work are nonexistent or squelched by smart rhetoric. When you are around people that are smart it really provides more enjoyable conversations.
