What You Need To Know About Oracle Oracle has established itself as a leader and innovator in the technology industry since it was first founded as a consulting company, Software Development Laboratories, by Larry Ellison, Bob Miner, and Ed Oates. Their primary project was in working with the CIA on a database program, code name ‘Oracle.’ Since that time through product development, meeting customer demand, and acquisition, Oracle has built itself into the second largest software developer in the industry, right behind Microsoft. So, what should you know about the company as it is today?

Mission and Vision According to their website, Oracle’s goal is to be “Powering innovation by simplifying IT.” Strategically centered on the front lines of the technology industry, Oracle stands ready to help any business or industry advance well beyond what they may think possible by integrating the Oracle hardware and software into their procedures. By recognizing that the IT staff in most businesses spend the majority of their time focusing on facilitating the day-to-day functions of the business, Oracle has worked to develop hardware and software that streamlines and improves the day to day functions of a business, freeing the employees to spend more time on developing and implementing new ideas. Additionally, by helping a company implement a foundation of reliable technology, they are then able to help their clients understand how to better integrate new technologies like apps and the cloud into their daily operations, allowing the company to reach a wider audience and engage a broader customer base.

How does it Work? Oracle has what they call, ‘The Oracle Hardware and Software Stack.’ Using the image of building blocks stacked upon each other, you can better understand how their business model is built and implemented for each of their clients. At the base of the structure is what they call the ‘Systems’. This includes data storage, servers, virtualization (which allows a company to increase security, performance, and efficiency by improving cloud implementation and deployment), and operating systems (like Linux and Solaris). These four blocks build the foundation of the Oracle system and help a company prepare to take the next step in improving the technological aspects of their business. Next are the ‘Technology’ blocks. Their database and middleware systems are leading the industry in productivity, efficiency, and performance. These systems provide clients with the infrastructure they need to work better in a shorter time frame, and quickly implement new applications across the board.

At the top of the stack is the ‘Applications’ block. Oracles applications allow each of their client’s access to the cutting edge of cloud implements and provide a “secure path for customers to benefit from the latest technology advances.” Whether you are at the helm of a major corporation, seeking to delve into emerging technology and bring your company to the forefront of your industry, or you are an employee, simply looking for more training on Oracle products, there are training courses and information available that will help you learn what you need to know to do your job.
