Why Become a Doctor There are many who have been dreaming of becoming doctors since they were little. Whether it was the scrubs, the white jacket, the altruistic nature of the job, or just the fact that they got paid top dollar, something sparked that desire. As you get older there is something that might extinguish that spark and in today’s society that could easily be the fact that the pay is going down while the amount and cost of college is going up. It doesn’t always make sense but for those who are still believers, here are some other reasons why you might still want to be a doctor.
Sense of Duty Anyone who has read Captain Blood knows that there is a sense of duty attached to the calling of a Doctor. DR. Peter Blood uses his expertise to save a man who is a known enemy of the state and when the Red Coats come and find him helping the man they claim his acts are treasonous to the crown. He responds that he only knew of his sacred duty as a physician. There have been countless acts of service done by doctors in the past and it is more than commendable, but many who have joined in the past have been driven by money and prestige rather than duty. So for those who are looking for that, you will find that it may not be like it used to but the duty and sense of fulfillment will always be there if you are willing to put in your best effort in saving lives.
Job Security While many may wonder if they will have a job in the future, yours will not be to wonder but to choose from the myriad of positions available in the laboratories, businesses, and consulting firms. Now, especially with the new health care system in place, there will be more need of doctors than ever before.
Teaming up with the best You will most likely have the opportunity to work with the best minds in the health industry. This can be a huge perk for those who enjoy collaborating and problem solving. It also helps during those stressful times when you just need a shoulder to lean on. You all have the common goal of helping your patients through their struggles and that only makes your unity that much greater. Technology taboo! There will never be a lack technology if you are working in a normal hospital. You will be at the frontlines of innovation and it is going to get more and more exciting. If you are one of those people who loves working
with new gadgets and gets excited by all of the innovation and just wants to pick it up and runs with it, this job is for you! You will find the only thing constant in this industry is change and the exciting thing about that is that it is all meant to help save lives. You could even start trying it out by doing laboratory training at Fort Collins! Keep kindling that spark because all of the years in school are worth it. You will be there before you know it and then you will find out for yourself how fulfilling this job can be. Photo Credit: Daniele Oberti, Salim Fadhley
