DuringtheMass,Fr.DanielDadulewas installedasrectoroftheMaryHelpof ChristiansParishinMayapa,Laguna.

Thosewhocouldn’tcometothevenue joinedonlineviaZoom.

DBTIMakati,13August2022--Thisyear’s much-awaitedSalesianFamilyFormation Daygatheredover300participantsfrom thedifferentgroupsoftheSalesianFamily

Aswealwaysdothroughtheyears,the programcommencedwiththecelebration oftheHolyEucharistpresidedbyFr.Gerardo Martin,FINProvincialSuperior,followedbythe formationtalkentitled“ASpoonfulofHoney, aTasteofSALESianSpirituality,”givenbyFr. JoelCamaya,RectorofDonBoscoCollegein Canlubang,Laguna.

Thegatheringcontinuedwithlunchand wascappedoffbyfunactivitiespreparedby eachdistrict.

Inhishomily,Fr GerryrelatedtheMass readingstotheconceptofspiritualchildhood. IntheMass,SalesianFamilymembersprayed tobeguidedtoholinessandforthedeceased memberswhosenameswereofferedatthe altar.Fr.BobbyRoxas,Delegateforthe CommissionontheSalesianFamily,ledthe membersinprayingtheEntrustmentofthe SalesianFamilytoMaryHelpofChristians.

Theformationportionensuedfeaturing thepatronsaintofthecongregationofthe SocietyofSt.FrancisdeSales,moreknown toallastheSalesiansofDonBosco.

Fr.Joeltalkedaboutthelifeandthe greatinfluenceofSt.FrancisdeSaleson DonBoscoandtousSalesians Itwasaperfectlyopportunesubjectas wecelebratethisyearthe400th anniversaryofthedeathofSt.Francisde Sales(1622-2022)

Asafinalnote,Fr.JoelsharedwhatPope FrancisofferedtotheSalesiansinhisletter duringtheGeneralChapter28inMarch 2020--theValdoccoOptionofDonBosco welcomingtheyoungintheoratorywhere theSalesianstyleofsweetnessmaybe found,i.e.,kindness,affection,familiarity andpresence.

ThisValdoccoOptionisatreasurewe havereceivedfromDonBosco–agiftforall SalesianFamilymemberstorekindle.

Bread as Sustenance for Body & Soul

DonBoscoCalauan,Laguna–Thefeeding programofDonBoscoCalauanstartedgiving spiritualformationtothe3,700beneficiaries.It isslatedforevery1stand3rdSaturdayofthe month.Br.AlfonsPanganiban,apractical traineeassignedinDBCalauan,istaskedwith givingthe45-minuteformationtalksthat takeplaceinthemorningforsites2and3at DonBosco’schapelandintheafternoonfor site1attheirchapelinthearea.

Theformationsessionbeganwithaprayer andopeningremarksgivenbyFr.Ferdinand Camilo.Thiswasfollowedbytheformation talkabouttheTenCommandmentsand endedwithasimplesnackpreparedbythe volunteersoftheDBFeedingProgram.

Asthebeneficiariesarrived,Br.RonnelTiu, andFr.JeffreyMangubat,rectorofDB Calauan,assistedandwelcomedthem. Agreatnumberofbeneficiariesattendedthe formationwiththeiractiveengagementand participation.Clearly,thisisanindicatorof howthirstyandhungrythesebeneficiaries aretoreceivesomethingfortheirsouls.

Likewise,theSalesiansbelievethatdoling outfoodtothebeneficiariesisinsufficient.

Thus,spiritualformationisessentialto nourishtheirsouls.

ThebeneficiariesleftDonBosco’s Chapelwiththeirheartsfull,inspiredto bringthemtheGoodNewstobelivedand sharedwiththerestofthecommunity.

Remain in my LOVE

Asalittleboy,mymother becameaninstrumentformeto knowmyfaith Shetaughtme howtopray,attendMass regularly,praytherosaryand havedevotiontotheBlessed Mother

Afterthirdgrade, myparentstransferred metoDonBosco Tarlac,which atfirstIdidnotlike becauseofthe adjustment, and someofmyfriends remainedinmy previousschool

Lateron,Irealizedthat MamaMarybroughtmeto DonBoscoforapurpose.

ImetDonBosco,the Salesians,andthe educators Throughthem, Idiscoveredmypurposeand callinginlife.Hand-in-hand withthis,Iwasalsovery activeinourparishserving asanaltarboy

MyexperiencewithDon Boscoandtheparishmade merealizethatGodwas brewingsomethingvery specialforme.

Butjustlikeanymountain climber,thejourneywas nevereasy.

Afterhighschool,Ididnot immediatelyenterthe seminarybecauseofmany reasonsandoneofthem wasmyfamily.

Atthattime,theywerefar fromreadytoletmeoutof thenest.Istudiedata universityand finishedmy degreein Psychology.

Thesefollowing wordsofJesus nourishedme, especiallyin momentsof desolation,likea wellrunningdry. Thewordsgave meapurposeto continueand persevere.

Itwasinmydiaconal ordinationthatIwasdrawn thistimetocontemplate John15:9,“Remaininmy love.”Ithenrealizedwhat Godreallywantedmeto dofirst,itwastojust remaininHislove.Iwillfall, commitsins,andeven forgettoserveHimand othersbutasHesaid,just “remaininmylove.” Ifirmlybelievethatthisis myfirstcallingandmission toremaininHislove.

However,likealady spider'sstringleadingme towardstheLord,Mama Marydiditagain!Itwas likeshestuckoneendofa treadtomeasIjourneyed throughCollegeandwas waitingfortheright momenttotugmeback.

Ifeltthatstrongcalling fromGodagainandthis timeIwasmore determinedandstronger thanever.

NowthatIamordained asapriest,allthemoremy heartexclaimsthatlove. “Mysoulproclaimsthe greatnessoftheLord” (Luke1:46).

Myordinationisa continuousreminderofthe greatnessandabundant loveandmercyofGodto me.Nakahithindiako karapat-dapataypatuloy parinakongpinipili, linulugodatbinibiyayaan ngDiyos Yes!

...Never a Mistake!

Itwasaclassproject duringthe2ndyearthatwe wereintroducedtothelifeof theoratoryinSt.Dominic SavioParish.Afterthe project,Ifounditenjoyable tostayintheyouthcenter andhangoutwithouryouth leadersandSalesian brothers(whowereintheir practicaltraining).Inthe oratory,Iwasinspiredbyour brotherswhoweregiving theirtimetous.

WhenIwasinmy4thyear highschool,itdawnedonme thatitwasourlastyearin theschool.Duringthe retreat,ourthenCatechist, Fr.MonBorja,mademe seriouslythinkaboutwhatI reallywantedtodoinmylife Hewasmentioningtousthat inlife,“successesaregood, butfindingmeaninginour successesgivespurposeto living”Thisphraseneverleft metothepointthatI becamerestlessaboutwhat todo.Fr.Monandmybrother assistantinvitedmetojoin someofmyclassmatesto stayinDonBosco

Canlubang.Ididn’tknowwhy andduringthattime,Ididn’t knowwhatwastherein Canlubang AllIknewwas theseminarywasthere,but whatwasseminarylife?After thatweekend,IsaidIwanted tocomebacktoCanlubang

DuringthedaysthatIwas thinkingaboutstudyingin Canlubang,something puzzledme.IrealizedthatI nevergavethoughtdeeply aboutmydecision.Iwanted tobesureofwhatIwanted.

Ineededtimetohelpmy parentstounderstandmy decisionaswell. AftermyHSGraduationin 2006,Istudiedatthe UniversityofSantoTomas. ThehandofGodwasso movingthatIalwaysfind myselfbackinDBTC Mandaluyongaftermyclass. TheSalesiansthennoticed mypresenceintheschool andguidedmeinmy discernmentofseminarylife.

TheSalesian community invitedme tojointheir community prayersto letme experience thelifeofa religious.

Therewere strugglesand challengesthat came Forexample, mygrandmother diedinJanuary of2007. And justtwodays afterIentered theseminary, mydadpassed onduetolungcancer

Inearlygaveupatthe beginning,butIwasreminded thatGodwouldalwaysbe thereforme.Ikeptgoing. Therewerejoysand sorrowsinthisSalesian journey. Whatkeptmegoing?

ThegraceofGodwasat workinthepeople,inmy conferes,andintheyoung peoplewhobelievedinme.

ChoosingGod willneverbea mistake.

CalambaCity,thePhilippines,16August 2022--Over400youngpeoplefromdifferent chapelsunderMaryHelpofChristiansParish Calamba,Laguna,Philippines,gatheredto celebratethenativityofSt JohnBosco,the Father,andTeacheroftheyouth.

TheEucharisticCelebrationwaspresided bytheYouthDirector,Fr.SonnyArevalo,and beganwiththeenthronementofDonBosco. Moreover,theParishYouthMinistry(PYM)led theStatementofCommitmentand symbolicalofferingof:

(1)slippers-symbolizingthesimpleyouth withjoyintheirheartsandopeningthe oratory'sdoorsforeveryone,

(2)flagsofeachorganizationsymbolizingthevisionofthePYMto strengtheneachandeveryyoungperson; and

(3)theOratorianHeartLogo-symbolizing theoneheartandsouloftheyouthinthe oratory.

SHS Department of DBTI-Makati: Where Innovation Never Stops

TheCovid-19pandemicthatshockedthe entireworldin2020compelledthemajorityof nationstoimplementlockdowns.Thissituation hasaffectedallsectorsofsociety,including educationandlearning.InthePhilippines,the entireLuzonwasplacedunder“Enhanced CommunityQuarantine(ECQ)”onMarch16, 2020,makingschoolsceaseoperationsand resultingintheabruptclosingoftheschool year.

Herearesomesignificantinnovationsinthe SHSDepartmentofDBTI.

Beginningwiththeschoolyear2019-2020, thedepartmenthasemployedtheFlipped Classroom thefirstintheinstitution.This approachallowsteacherstouploadtheirselfmadeorborrowedvideolessonsviaGoogle Classroomthatpreparestudentsfortheironthe-groundmeetings.Ithasbeeninstrumental inthedepartment’ssuccessinconfidently closingtheacademicyear.

WhenFr.ProvincialgavemethisobedienceI wasreallyoverjoyedbecauseIamuntothe newphaseofmySalesianlifeandtheworkI amassignedtoisthe“nearesttowhatDon Boscostarted.”

IfIwillbeaskedifthesameistrueafterone year,Iwoulddefinitelysay100%YES!Butthis joy,now,comeswithgratitude.Icould definitelysaytomyselfthatIamhappyand gratefultobewiththemigrants.ButIalsoask myself,“whyamIhappy?WhydoIevenlove themigrants?”Andthesearereallyhard questions.

AdifficultinquirythatIhavetoconfront myself.Then,Irealizedthatthisselfinterrogationwillhelpmepurifymy motivationsandclarifymyactions.SoIgo backtoDonBosco,“BakitmahalniDonBosco angmgamahihirapnakabataan?”

Isitbecausetheyaregullible?Idon’tthink so

Alas!BecauseDonBoscosawGodinthese pooryoungpeople!Thismaysoundclichéand asSalesianswehavebeenhammeredbythis statementrepeatedly.Butitiseasiersaidthan done.It’shardtolovepooryoungpeoplewho attimesbecomeentitledanddemanding.It’s hardtolovepooryoungpeoplewho,because ofcircumstances,lieandsteal.It’shardtolove pooryoungpeoplewhorejecttheloveyou offerandrejectLoveHimself ButDonBosco lovedthemanyway.

Inmyfirstyearofpracticaltraining,Ithank theLordforlettingmeexperienceaglimpseof DonBosco’slife,thatis,tobeinthemidstof thepoorestyoung,tolovethepoorestyoung, andtodiscoverGodinthepoorestyoung.

Iwasbecomingassiduoussincetheworkis hardandevenphysicallydemandingbut everynightbeforeIgotobed,Iwouldalways tellmyself,“thisiswhyIbecameaSalesian,” andwithacontentedheart,IbelievethatIam livingthelifeofmydreamsandIwillnever exchangethisforanything.

Backin2017,Fr.Ramonwasaccompanied byFr AndreBelo,SDB,fromTimor-Leste,and Br.ManuelRuperez,SDB,fromSpain.Thesetwo arenowbackintheirhomecountriesand Salesianprovinceswheretheycontinueto serveasSalesiansinamore‘regular’ communityandapostolate.ButFr.Eugene MaglasangisnowhereandFr.Andre Delimartaiscomingsoon ThankstoourRector Major,Fr.AngelFernandez,forsendingthem here,andthankstoourlocalordinary, ArchbishopSimonPoh,forwelcomingthem, too.

Ohyes,forsomereason,thingsarenotyet ‘regular’fortheSalesianshereinKuching. ALAMAK!However,thingsarechangingforthe better.Developmentsarehappening.Slowly, yes Butwithmuchoptimism Moreandmore people,especiallytheyoung,arenow experiencingthelifeandservicethattheSDBs herehavebeensharing.
