A word from the manager
Darren Ferguson Good afternoon. I would like to welcome Darrell Clarke as well as the supporters, players, owners and staff of the visitors. I was pleased to get a point at Scunthorpe in midweek which extended our unbeaten run in Sky Bet League One to eight games. You have to be pleased with a point when you are deep into stoppagetime and behind. We showed great resolve and character, there is a real belief at the moment that we can always get something out of the game and that is why over the past month or so we have climbed the table. At the moment the players are finding ways not to lose games, which is a really good habit to have – and all credit to them.
their injuries. Both played against Port Vale reserves on Tuesday and will be in the squad for a friendly against Lincoln reserves at Cantley Park this morning. It is a real cliche to say their returns will be like getting two new signings, but neither have been able to kick a ball in anger in the first-team for us this season. Football has lost some real characters recently in Cyrille Regis, Jimmy Armfield and Patrick Cryne. All three made significant contributions to the game, and my thoughts are with their friends and family. Enjoy the game.
Andy Butler, Issam Ben Khemis and Mathieu Baudry all suffering injuries in the past couple of games has been a blow for us – Buts and Issam could end up missing the rest of the season.
All 72 EFL Clubs have signed up to a new Chairman’s Charter to help put an end to the dangerous use of pyrotechnics.
Craig Alcock and Tyler Garratt came off the bench to do really well at Scunthorpe, and we have Luke McCullough and Alex Kiwomya closing in on returns from
It is already a criminal offence to enter a football stadium while in possession of a flare, smoke bomb or firework. Any supporter now found to be in breach of the terms of the Chairman’s Charter will also face a minimum three-season Club ban.

Good afternoon, and welcome back to the Keepmoat Stadium. I’d like to welcome the owners, supporters, players and staff of the visitors who have made the trip up from Bristol today. I would like to start by paying tribute to Patrick Cryne, the former owner of Barnsley who passed away last weekend after a long battle with cancer. This weekend football will unite to remember him, as well as the great Jimmy Armfield. Both men played a significant role in the EFL, with Jimmy making his mark on the nation as a player, manager and pundit and is quite rightly remembered for a lifelong commitment to Blackpool FC. Patrick made a major contribution to the game in his time with our South Yorkshire neighbours Barnsley, during which the club twice won promotion and lifted the EFL Trophy at Wembley Stadium. The thoughts of everyone at Club Doncaster are with the families and friends of both individuals and everyone associated with the clubs they represented. It is really pleasing to be able to pen these notes with Rovers sat 11th in the Sky Bet League One table after a run of eight games in the league without defeat.
ways not to lose, and that fighting spirit has been particularly evident in some of our away games this month – the players never gave up at Peterborough or Scunthorpe, while at Shrewsbury there is a feeling we could easily have gone on to win that match had Issam Ben Khemis not had to come off. While we know we will only extend the unbeaten run if we continue to work hard and maintain the standards we have set, there is a real sense of belief around the club. There are 16 games left after today and extending the streak to nine matches without loss would really set us up for the final stages of the campaign. Doncaster Rugby League hold their final pre-season game here tomorrow - playing on the athletics pitch against Batley Bulldogs (kick-off 3pm). They put in a creditable performance last week against a full-time side in London Broncos. The Dons were leading at half-time and coach Richard Horne was pleased with a lot of things his side did. Tickets can be purchased from the Box Office on the day or in advance from tickets.clubdoncaster.co.uk Enjoy the game
It is real testament to the players, manager and his backroom staff that we have put this run together. The manager has spoken a lot about the side finding

BEN WHITEMAN There was no doubt in Ben Whiteman’s mind as to where his next move was going to be when he was told he was allowd to leave former club Sheffield United. He had already scored seven goals in 30 appearances for Rovers while on loan earlier this season, so a decision was simple when sorting out his next move.
offer. I think that is always important for any player. Sheffield United wanted to get their targets in but had a short turnaround between games so they wanted me back as cover, but once they signed those players it allowed me to sort out my own future.”
Whiteman’s last act of his first spell with the club was to score the equalising goal “Once I knew the permanent deal at Peterborough United on New Year’s was on I wanted to get Day. That meant there it done as quickly as was always a feeling possible to settle myself that his departure was “There were other clubs down and secure my premature given his form interested, but they future,” he says. leading up to the recall never really entered my from Chris Wilder. thoughts, I had my heart “There were other clubs set on a move here” interested but they “There was definitely never really entered my a sense of unfinished thoughts, I had my heart business with the way my set on a move here and wanted to do loan spell ended, we were disappointed I everything I could to force a deal through. had to leave but I always saw my longterm future here,” he says. “That was the major thing for me, knowing where i wanted to go and “I didn’t know until the Tuesday after that already knowing what this club had to game that i was going back, I had the

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS mind-set that i was going to be staying for the rest of the season anyway, but then we got a call which changed things. “The gaffer phoned me and explained that I had been recalled and there wasn’t really much we could do at the time, but he did say that he would do what he could to bring me back to the club.” Out of the goals he has scored in a Rovers shirt so far, there is no doubting which one ranks highest from a personal view point for Whiteman. “My favourite goal so far was my second against Southend, i caught it sweetly and knew from the moment it left my foot that it was heading for the top corner,” he says. “The Rochdale one wasn’t far behind it, but the Southend one was part of my hat-trick, and it meant a lot to me as it was the first of my career. “I hadn’t scored in the league before that game so I would say that it kick-started my spell here and gave me a massive boost to go on and get more goals for the team.” Now that he is officially a Rovers player, Whiteman has his sights set on becoming one of the first names on the teamsheet under manager Darren Ferguson. “Nothing has really changed for me, it has been well documented how much I wanted to come back and I felt right at home straight away,” he says.

“The lads welcomed me back with the usual banter and that’s one of the main reasons I wanted to come back because it’s a great group of lads here. “The manager left me on the bench for the Plymouth game because I didn’t train due to the talks taking place between myself and the two clubs, so it was decided that I would be a substitute. “It’s down to me now that I am a Rovers player to keep my place in the team, I have to keep working hard to ensure that iIam picked in the starting XI every week.” Rovers return to the Keepmoat Stadium this afternoon after two tough away trips in Sky Bet League One, against Shrewsbury Town and Scunthorpe United respectively. Whiteman says those type of games are ones which every player wants to be involved in, battling against some of the best sides in the division. “We all believe that we are capable of beating any team in this division, we’ve shown in the past few weeks what we are capable of so it’s all about carrying that on now,” he says. “The points have been matching the performances recently, which wasn’t happening earlier on in the season, the result is always the most important thing but every team wants to play well and with confidence. We want to use frustration in games and turn
it into a positive for us, we show our emotions and it shows how much we care and how much we want to win. “It’s a good trait to have, we want a winning mentality within the group and the more points we pick up then that will be the case, luck is turning in our favour recently.”
To continue the interview with the midfielder we asked him a few quickfire questions about more quirky topics.

The reverse fixture at the Memorial Ground marked a turnaround in fortune for Darren Ferguson’s side just before Christmas, with a 1-0 victory setting Rovers on their way to three straight victories. “The game at their place was one which we really had to grind out, the conditions weren’t great and we had to do a lot of defending which showed a different side to our game,” adds Whiteman.
OR
“They had a goal disallowed and that was one of the first times were we felt that we were getting the rub of the green which we haven’t had at times this season. “A lot of teams have lost some key players and that can really hurt them depending on where they are in the table, we want to take advantage of that and keep our close knit group together. “The quality we’ve got in the team we don’t really focus too much on other teams, it’s all about how we can hurt them and the areas we can exploit going forward.”

Central defender Mathieu Baudry was impressed with the character Rovers showed as they battled back from 2-0 down to secure a point against Shrewsbury Town last Saturday. Baudry began the fight-back with a perfectly-timed header on the 62nd minute before Issam Ben Khemis came off the bench to score his first Football League goal, and the Frenchman said he always backs himself to score goals whenever he enters the box.
Rovers had to play the remaining eight minutes of the game with 10-men as Ben Khemis was forced off through injury, despite the injuries, Baudry is keen to make sure that Rovers take it one game at a time in Sky Bet League One. “Butler came off really early in the game and then Ben Khemis went off a bit later and had to finish the game with 10-men, so as well as coming back from two down, we had to deal with that as well,” added.
“We showed great character to come from two goals down to get a draw, Shrewsbury are a good side and it is not an easy place to come and play football,” he said.
“We are on a great run at the moment and that’s a credit to the team, we are always looking up the table and we will always keep doing it but as the cliché goes you have to keep going game by game.
“They will be up there at the end of the season no doubt about that, they play with really high quality and high energy, I’m really proud of the team getting a point as we were a lot calmer in the second half.”
“I am always disappointed not to start because you think that when you are in the team, but we have three good centrebacks in the side, and you know if you do not perform you will be out of the side.”

Alfie Beestin praised Rovers’ fighting spirit after they came from a goal down to earn a point at Scunthorpe United on Tuesday night.. Beestin’s 96t- minute equaliser at Glanford Park made it eight league games unbeaten for Rovers, and the forward says the draw was no more than they deserved. He said: “To score a late goal in any game is a great feeling, but to do it in a derby game is something special and the scenes at the end were brilliant. “We started slowly in the first half, but it shows the character we have in the team that we came back strongly after half-time to get something from the game. “I thought we deserved a point with how we played in the second half, we just need to believe in ourselves more and show
why we are on an unbeaten run and doing well in the league.” The 20-year-old has started eight of Rovers’ past 12 games in all competitions, and feels he is becoming an established part of Darren Ferguson’s first-team squad. He added: “The first year was tough for me as i wasnt used to the intensity, now i feel great after working hard in preseason and learning from the manager and his staff. “I feel like O’m starting to show my worth and repaying the faith they’ve shown in me, i’m still a young player but i’m proving i’m capable of being in the team. “If you’re in the starting XI you’ve got the responsibility of performing well, we’ve been getting some good results which always helps on a personal level.”

Was first-choice goalkeeper at Belle Vue in the 1993-94 season, when Rovers were competing in the Third Division (now League Two). Rovers finished 15th in what was his only season in South Yorkshire. His sole outing for today’s visitors came while on loan from Mansfield Town the season earlier. With 94 appearances for the Stags, he played most of his football for Mansfield but had loan spells at Peterborough and Scarborough as well as the Gas. After 37 outings for Doncaster Rovers he spent the 94-95 campaign at Chesterfield, where he made 32 appearances. Coaching roles have included time with the Nottingham Forest and Leeds United Academies, and is currently goalkeeping coach at Chinese Super League side Shanghai Shenua.
The Welsh midfielder came through the ranks at Liverpool, but left in 1999 to join Wrexham for his first real taste of firstteam football. He spent the end of the 2000-01 campaign at Belle Vue, before joining Kidderminster in 2001. He spent three years at the Harriers before signing for Bristol Rovers, though again his time at the Pirates was short and he returned to the Racecourse Ground for a further four years as a Wrexham player.
DEFENDER Terry COOPER The left-back moved to Belle Vue in 1981, combining playing with assisting then Rovers manager Billy Bremner - whom he had been a team-mate of at Leeds United. His playing career was most notable for his decade at Elland Road, where he played more than 250 games and claimed medals for winning the First Division and FA Cup. He had spells with Middlesbrough, clocking up more than 100 appearances at Ayresome Park, and Bristol City before joining the Pirates as player-manager in April 1980. His time in charge was ended in October 1981, prompting his move to South Yorkshire. He earned 20 caps for England – all coming while still a Leeds player. His son Mark followed him into football playing and management, and he is currently in charge of League Two side Forest Green Rovers.

MY WEEK: ANALYST Analyst Adam Ridgewell usually has the best view of every match – watching from
the gantry, armed with replays as he provides real-time update to the bench
MONDAY I am at Cantley Park for 7.30am every weekday. We have a meeting with all the first-team staff, discussing Saturday’s game and what is coming with the week ahead. We have a debrief with the players on the game, either the full squad or in units – defence, midfield and forwards. If there is no midweek game that will be our only meetings for the day, so I have time to finish off the video notes for the next game. I always try to be a game ahead.
in the final third. The gaffer will always say this is the most important meeting because that is how you win games.
TUESDAY Assuming there is no midweek game, this is a day for getting on planning ahead. I watch the last five games the opposition has played, while we’ll also have a scout at games and the gaffer, Gavin Strachan and Paul Gerrard will have watched some as well. It can feel like most of my time is spent watching footage of our upcoming opponents. We film training at times, and if we have a Development game then the assistant analyst John Hill will film that. John joined us as a full-time analyst in the summer, which means the Academy get a lot more analyis than they used to. The focus on Academy players is more on their development than the opposition, he will watch a game or two if he can for a headsup but at that age it should be about improving our players. In training the first-team will start to look at opposition set-pieces, with Strachs looking at the attacking ones and Gez focusing on how we defend set-pieces - we provide clips on what the opposition tend to do.
3pm: I spend the game on the gantry, where we film with what we call a wide angle. This is the same angle the TV coverage is filmed from, but we don’t zoom in as much. At home games we also have a camera behind the end we are defending, so right in the middle of the Black Bank which is really useful for reviewing defensive play. I have a radio to speak to Strachs on the bench to provide real-time updates – I can watch replays straight away, so can tell straight away if we need to tweak some positioning or if there are gaps to exploit.
22
1.45pm: We exchange teamsheets with the opposition. The coaches and I look at the opponents’ line-up to try and figure out their formation, which means Strachs and the gaffer can give out last-minute instructions. We also go through setpieces to finalise who marks who when we are defending.
WEDNESDAY It is a recovery day for the players, so I work from home – looking at more footage and preparing the video content for our meetings on Saturday’s opponents. THURSDAY We split the squad into units, just as we do at times in our post-match debrief. This is probably our most important meeting, and the players ask a lot of questions because they know it is relevant to everyone in the room. If we had a Tuesday game then we’d also do this on the Monday. This
tends to be a tactical day in training, so if we do film a session then we would do it now. FRIDAY We have a team meeting in the morning to go through the opposition’s style of play and how we are going to stop them. Telling them what they do, and what we need to do to counter that. MATCHDAY 1.20pm: Our final meeting is held at the stadium and is on how we are going to hurt the opposition when we have the ball
3.45pm: I take my laptop down so we can show one or two clips to players. 4.45pm: After the match the staff have a quick debrief in the manager’s office. 6pm: I watch the match back and provide individual clips for the players to watch on Sunday morning. On Sunday I watch our next opponents and prepare our debrief.

It has been a really positive start to the new calendar year for our Academy teams. All our teams are now back in training and have had the opportunity to play teams such as Manchester City, Sheffield Wednesday, Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United. There have been a range of very impressive individual performances within these games ranging from the under 9s through to the U16s. These performances have received justified recognition from our own staff and also the staff from the opposition teams. Our players and staff continue to make a positive impression wherever they go and highlight the talent we have throughout our Academy system. I often speak about a winning mentality and the development of the characteristics in players that
result in this. Our Under 18 team are now on a run of seven games unbeaten. The important thing for us is that they have not sacrificed our playing principles throughout this run, producing some very good football. However, they are now showing, when required, the resilience and togetherness needed to create unbeaten runs. During this period we have also begun to provide opportunities for under 16 players to play in the 18s whilst many of our youth team players are playing regularly in the Under 23 league and cup games. These opportunities are vital for the players as they begin to make the next step into youth teams and then to bridge the gap to first team football.
Paul Stancliffe thought Rovers’ U18 side deserved more than a draw after an impressive fightback at Scunthorpe United last Saturday. Lewis Scattergood and Reives Boocock were on the scoresheet as his youngsters fought back from two goals down in North Lincolnshire. Stancliffe said: “I was very pleased. There’s been some really good performances, but I’d like to highlight Matty Overton and Lewis Scattergood as I thought their attitude was first-class – particularly after not playing against Bradford in the development side last week – and their performance matched it, they really led by example.” Stancliffe thought the young Iron’s two strikes were unstoppable, and their 2-0 lead did not reflect the match at that point. He added: “I’m pleased with the character – they’ve had two strikes at goal, two great strikes one from at least 30 yards has gone in – we didn’t deserve that. I tried telling them if we play the right way, the way we want to play, we don’t need to change it – and to be fair to the lads they didn’t panic.”

TEN YEARS AGO: DONCASTER ROVERS IN SEASON 2007-08. Part 15 The postponement of the Leeds United game meant that Rovers would face four away games in a row. They had already beaten AFC Bournemouth and lost to Carlisle United: now they faced Tranmere Rovers and Bristol Rovers in the space of four days at the start of March. Injuries were starting to bite with James O’Connor undergoing hernia surgery, while James Hayter was not yet ready to return after a similar operation. Defender Gordon Greer was recovering from a hip operation, while striker Lewis Guy had been struck down with glandular fever. Recent signings Stuart Elliott and Gareth Taylor, against his former club, were both in the squad that travelled to Tranmere, who were unbeaten in their past eight matches and lay only four points behind Rovers in the League One table. The team that started at Prenton Park showed only one change from that which had lost at Carlisle, with Matt Mills coming in at right back in place of O’Connor, while Adam Lockwood and Stephen Roberts formed the central defensive partnership. It was the Rovers of Doncaster who got off to the best of starts in this one. After two minutes Mark McCammon fed James Coppinger 25 yards out and he hammered the ball into the roof of the Tranmere net. Rovers edged the first half,

with Lockwood’s header almost doubling the lead following a corner and J. J. Price forcing a fine save from Coyne before Brian Stock also went close. Towards the end of the half Coppinger almost added his second but he was thwarted by Coyne. After 52 minutes Price sustained what looked a nasty ankle injury and Elliott replaced him. Rovers now came under sustained pressure from Tranmere with their very direct playing style. Greenacre and McLaren both went close to an equaliser and Lockwood was forced to block a fierce shot from Tranmere’s Taylor. Rovers held out, though, and that early, superb, strike from Coppinger proved enough to secure three vital points. On Tuesday March 4 2008 it was Rovers versus Rovers again, this time at Bristol’s Memorial Ground. Price was out injured with damaged ankle ligaments so Paul Heffernan (pictured) made his first start since November, partnering McCammon up front. Rovers again managed to take an early lead as Coppinger’s cross found Heffernan who volleyed home after three minutes. RickieLambert almost equalised straight away for Bristol Rovers before Paul Green
forced a fine save from home goalkeeper Phillips and then Campbell and Disley both went close for the home side. On the stroke of half time Neil Sullivan, in the Rovers goal, pulled off an excellent save to thwart Andy Williams. Stephen Roberts sustained a foot injury and was unable to resume after the break, Mark Wilson coming on in midfield while Mills moved to centre back and Green to right back. Both sides had chances during a lively second half. Haldane shot just over the bar and for Rovers Coppinger, Heffernan and Stock all had efforts blocked. Lockwood then did well to block a fierce drive by Rigg. With 10 minutes to go McCammon’s powerful header brought a good save from Phillips. There was a nervous five minutes of stoppage time as Bristol Rovers pumped balls into the Rovers box looking for a knockdown, but with Mills and Lockwood in fine form, they held out. So, as on the previous Saturday, an early strike was enough to gain victory for Rovers. As a result they were able to maintain second place in the League One table. John Coyle

SUPPORTERS Official Supporters Club A good afternoon and a warm welcome to the fans, players and management of the Gas, aka Bristol Rovers for today’s Sky Ber League One encounter, I hope their fans had a safe trip up from the West Country today, We had a great victory down there, on a very cold day last month, with Niall Mason scoring a penalty to secure us all three points. It was good to have a chat with their Supporters Club committee who run the club shop down there. They were a very friendly bunch, and our fans were reminiscing about the day out at the Millennium Stadium for the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final. The next away game is at Portsmouth, where we may stop at a local hostelry on the way – the bus times are in the programme. Walsall away is a midweek game, so please book early. If you live in the Retford, Harworth, Rossington area, why not use the Supporters Club home bus, which runs every home match at a very competitive price. If you live on Bawtry Road you can also use this service at £1 return. It runs direct to the Keepmoat Stadium and back and there no need to book, just turn up. Please let us know if would like picking up on Bawtry Road - call 07961727769 for more information.

Our North branch also run coaches to most away games from Carcroft, Adwick, and points along the A19, a good active branch, it makes it much easier to travel if you live that way on –call 07780316923 for more information. We also run coaches for certain games from the Sprotborough area, and the travel club have pick ups in the Hatfield area. Please remember there is no alchohol is allowed on the coaches. The Supporters Club weekend away will be for the last game of the season, away at Oldham on April 27-29. We are looking at stopping at the Prince of Wales Hotel in Southport from Friday til the Sunday, cost will be about £125 per person, bed, breakfast and evening meal. The Branch Dinner dance this season will be Friday May 11 2018 at the Mount Pleasant Hotel. Rovers til I die Paul Mayfield
Viking Supporters Co-Operative Football is the national game, and football supporters are the lifeblood of the game. While many privately owned football clubs are well run, ours included, there are numerous examples over the years where this model of ownership has failed the supporters of that club, and has led to a number of clubs becoming either partly or fully owned by those supporters. Recently the Minister Of Sport set up the Expert Working Group with the intention of looking at ways to improve engagement and dialogue between clubs and fans, and therefore to improve transparency and trust.
discuss a very broad range of topics. It is early days for this new Board, but so far the signs are very encouraging in that nothing has been held back and the trust between club and supporters is evident. As the meetings progress we hope to be able to announce the progress that has been made. Suffice to say that DRFC have not only met the new requirements but have exceeded them in both frequency and content, and that is something we can once again be proud of. IRWT Martin O’Hara
The detailed recommendations from the EWG led to the government instructing the Football League and the Premier League to enter into structured dialogue with those supporters, and especially with the supporters trust at that club. The EFL issued a new league rule informing clubs of the minimum requirement for meeting with supporters and the kind of topics that should be included. That new rule came into force for the 2016/17 season. As you may be aware the club hold two Meet The Owners events each year which meet the criteria set down by the EFL. On top of that the club have initiated a Supporters Board which meets on a monthly basis during the season to

CLUB DONCASTER FOUNDATION
Never Give Up Once I could not kick a ball, Or slam-dunk a basketball. In hockey I took a fall, And in tennis I could not hit the ball, But I never gave up. All the others teased me, Laughed and called me names. Put me in the hall of shame, And never gave me praise. But I never gave up.
Club Doncaster Foundation partner schools from across the borough have been busy writing poems as part of the Premier League primary stars writing competition. The regional competition hosted by CDF challenges students to write about resilience, with the chance to win complimentary Doncaster Rovers tickets, signed merchandise and publication in the matchday programme – the poem is published on the page opposite. Open to all primary school children, the winners were announced this week and claiming the accolade were Kirtsian, Ollie and Edward from Retford St Joseph’s Primary. Schools Coordinator Kelly JacksonPowell said: “I think it’s fantastic that so many of our partner schools have got involved with this, the theme of
52
resilience fits perfect with our day to day curriculum so we’re delighted with the amount of entries and also the standard of them. “It just goes to show how much of an impact the Premier League are making with projects as such, it gets children involved with writing because they want to, not because they have to. A huge congratulations must go to Ollie, Edward and Kristian, who wrote a fantastic poem to win the prize.” The trio were handed a signed Doncaster Rovers ball each, along with three complimentary tickets for today’s fixture. For more information about the writing competition, or more projects as such delivered by the schools team, contact Kelly on kelly.jackson-powell@ clubdoncasterfoundation.co.uk.
Back at home I practised hard, And kicked the ball 20 yards. It flew and flew and flew some more, Until it hit the bully’s door. The bullies opened the creaky door, And shouted “who’s that who kicked the ball” “It’s the boy you teased the day before and it made my feelings sore” Now I can kick a ball, And slam-dunk a basketball. In hockey I stand above them all, And in tennis, I always hit the ball. That’s why I never gave up, Because good things rise up. By Kristian, Edward and Ollie.

CLUB DONCASTER Richard Horne felt Doncaster RLFC gave a good account of themselves in the 22-16 defeat to London Broncos at the Keepmoat Stadium last week. Horne’s side had the lead at half-time, but three second half tries gave the Broncos the victory in the Dons’ first game of 2018. Horne said: “I’m really happy with how we performed against a full-time outfit, our first-half was outstanding and we looked really strong defensively.
DONCASTER ROVERS BELLES defend well after that, but we have to get used to playing the right sort of rugby in different weather conditions.”
Belles head coach Neil Redfearn is confident for the future as he prepares for his first outing at the Keepmoat Stadium.
The Dons face another Betfred Championship outfit in Batley Bulldogs tomorrow, and Horne believes that will be another chance for the players to test themselves against strong opposition.
Redfearn’s side ran out 2-0 winners over Watford at Kings Langley in his first match, and tomorrow the Belles host Brighton & Hove Albion.
“It gives us something to work on for the Batley game, there were plenty of signs that what we’ve been asking of them over the past couple of months has been understood.
He added: “We looked fit and strong so that is very pleasing, London and Batley are two top level Championship teams so if we can perform well and cause them problems then it’s a positiveThe standard against Batley will be high, London played with some really quick line speed so it’s good for our development to learn how to handle that.”
“The conditions weren’t great and halftime probably didnt help us, we didn’t
Kick-off against Batley is 3pm on pitch 2 at the Club Doncaster Sports Village.
Redfearn was also full of praise for the opposition who, He said: “If we can get despite their lowly the team organised like “If we can get the team position in the league, we did against Watford, organised like we did gave the Belles a then we’ve got enough game in the second against Watford, then quality to win games. half and, but for the fingertips of Nicky we’ve got enough quality “Overall I’m really Davies, would have to win games. He also singled go away from home and out praise for the “I’ve looked at the past dig in and in the second two central midfield results and we’ve had players who have a great first half of the half that’s what we did” formed a formidable season but that’s only partnership in our second clean sheet the heart of the of the season. Belles team this season. “We defended well and looked organized and when they did break through, Nicky Davies made a couple of great saves. “In the first half we were by far the better side and created chances. “We got ourselves 2-0 up but, to be fair, Watford rallied in the second half and made more of a game of it. I thought overall we managed the game well. Clean sheets win you games and sometimes you have to go away from

home and dig in and in the second half that’s what we did. We controlled the first half and if there’s any disappointment it would be that we probably should have been more than two goals up at half time.”
He said: “Sam Tierney and Sophie Walton are the constant that helps the defence and the goalkeeper and allows the front four to be creative. “They prompted well all game and got onto the second balls well too. They kept their shape when Watford came at us too which was important.” The Belles host Brighton & Hove Albion at the Keepmoat Stadium on Sunday January 28. Kick-off is 2pm.
