"OUR HOME FORM HAS BEEN AMONGST THE BEST IN THE DIVISION, AND WITH SEVEN OF OUR REMAINING 13 GAMES BEING PLAYED HERE AT THE KEEPMOAT STADIUM WE KNOW WE HAVE A REAL OPPORTUNITY"

GRANT McCANN GOOD AFTERNOON AND WELCOME BACK TO THE KEEPMOAT STADIUM FOR THIS AFTERNOON’S EXCITING LEAGUE ONE GAME. I’D LIKE TO WELCOME CHARLTON BOSS LEE BOWYER, AS WELL AS THE FANS, PLAYERS AND STAFF OF THE ADDICKS WHO HAVE MADE THE TRIP NORTH. This is our third meeting this season, after two trips down to The Valley already, and I’m sure this will be another fiercely contested clash between two good sides. We go into the game a little frustrated that we only secured one point from our away games at Scunthorpe and Shrewsbury but we know in this league there are no easy games - especially when you get to this point of the season when there is so much riding on the outcomes both at the top and bottom of the tables.

The backing of supporters continues to be fantastic, as we saw in our last home game against Crystal Palace, with the surfer flag going round the stadium and the tifo card display as the lads walked out. You did us proud as a club, and I hope we did you proud as a fanbase. I’m sure there will be a lot more twists and turns in the league and we will look to finish the season on high. Enjoy the game.

We are in a very good position going into the final 13 games of the regular season to ensure we are in the mix for promotion come May. Our home form has been amongst the best in the division, and with seven of our remaining 13 games being played here at the Keepmoat Stadium we know we have a real opportunity.

"WE’VE RECEIVED SOME AMAZING FEEDBACK ABOUT THE ORGANISATION BEHIND THE SCENES AND HOW IT COMPARES FAVOURABLY WHEN UP AGAINST SOME OF THE BIGGEST CLUBS IN THE COUNTRY"

GAVIN BALDWIN GOOD AFTERNOON AND WELCOME BACK TO THE KEEPMOAT STADIUM, I’D LIKE TO WELCOME THE SUPPORTERS, OWNERS, PLAYERS AND STAFF OF CHARLTON ATHLETIC WHO HAVE MADE THE TRIP UP AS WE EXTEND THE WARM WELCOME TO THEM AS THEY HAVE SHOWED US TWICE ALREADY THIS SEASON AT THE VALLEY. This is my first chance to publicly thank and congratulate everyone following the FA Cup fifth round game against Crystal Palace. As a club I felt we did ourselves proud and showcased everything we are about to a national and international TV audience, 100 or so visiting journalists and a set of fans accustomed to the Premier League. We’ve received some amazing feedback about the organisation behind the scenes and how it compares favourably when up against some of the biggest clubs in the country - as a club we should be very proud of the organisation and attitude of the staff that we can now routinely pull off such big events. The emails from Palace fans and journalists from big newspapers and radio stations praising our setup show we’ve genuinely got a setup behind the scenes ready to make the step up to the Championship. The surfer flag and tifo card display, both initiatives where supporters came to us asking for help, looked fantastic on TV too

up early and took advantage of our fan park or popped into the Belle Vue Bar after the game before going home, and while we were frustrated at the requirements of live broadcasters eating up so much of our car parking it was a real help that Lakeside Outlet agreed to our request to allow supporters of both sides to use their facilities as a one-off. Please remember the cameras will be switched on again today and for every home game going forward! While we were all frustrated to only get one point from the games at Scunthorpe and Shrewsbury, we are still set fair for the run-in to the season. As Grant says in his notes, with seven of the final 13 games here at the Club Doncaster Sports Village there is a real opportunity for us to use our strong home form to secure our place in the promotion mix-up come the end of the season. We’re certainly going to give it a right go. Enjoy the game.

Of course the most credit goes to supporters who backed us in numbers, selling out the Keepmoat Stadium and displaying a real understanding as to the pressures on staff when we have so many people here - people turned

PAUL G N I N DOW PAUL DOWNING HAS PROVED TO BE A KEY ADDITION TO THE ROVERS SIDE AFTER JOINING ON LOAN FROM BLACKBURN ROVERS IN JANUARY. Downing won promotion from Sky Bet League One with the Ewood Park outfit last season, and has his sights set on repeating that feat in South Yorkshire. “I’ve really enjoyed it so far and I’ve been made to feel really welcome which made it very easy for me to settle in,” he says. “I’d heard good things before I joined and I’ve seen them for myself now, we’ve got a lot of quality and we’ve shown that in recent weeks. “We play some really good attacking football and score a lot of goals, and I feel we’ve been good at the other end of the pitch. “The key for us is to try and continue that balance for the rest of the season now and see where it takes us.”

09

Downing had a frustrating start to the 2018/19 campaign after finding himself out of Tony Mowbray’s first-team plans.

“He’s had a really good season so far and has a lot of good attributes as a defender, I think we complement each other with different qualities.

The move to Rovers though has seen him earn plaudits for his performances at the heart of a Rovers defence which has conceded just three league goals with him in the side.

“It helps knowing someone as a person as you can sort of read what they’re going to do so that helps the partnership.

“It makes you realise how much you miss playing, I’ve probably played more in three weeks than I had done in the six months before that,” he says.

“The competition for places is obviously really strong as well, we have someone with the quality of Andy Butler who is ready to come in so it’s bringing out the best in us.”

“Every player wants to be out there on the field every week, and now I’ve got a few games under my belt hopefully I can stay in the team.

Downing has already experienced a sell-out crowd at the Keepmoat Stadium in the Emirates FA Cup fifth round tie against Crystal Palace.

“It helps coming into a team that is doing well, the confidence is high and it means that everyone is looking forward to every game. “We’ve got a really good chance of promotion this season, we’ve got to keep taking one game at a time and putting points on the board.” Tom Anderson has been alongside Downing in every game he’s played for the club so far, and having a settled pairing at the back has proved to be key. The 27-year-old says they get on well on and off the pitch, with an understanding of what each other are going to do throughout a game. “I’ve travelled in with Tom for a few weeks now and I get on really well with him, I think that’s important for any partnership on the pitch,” he says.

"WE’VE GOT A REALLY GOOD CHANCE OF PROMOTION THIS SEASON, WE’VE GOT TO KEEP TAKING ONE GAME AT A TIME AND PUTTING POINTS ON THE BOARD"

He reckons that is something he and the rest of the squad thrived on, and something they want more of in the future. “We played well against Palace and inbetween both boxes we really competed, it was just the finer details where they were better than us,” he says “It was a great occasion and a lot of fans turned out for it, so that will drive us on because we want to be playing in front of crowds like that more often. “It’s natural that everyone stepped up a level and the lads knew that being the live game it was a massive occasion for the football club. “Seeing how good the Keepmoat Stadium looked full to capacity has shown what we can achieve if we manage to get up to the Championship.”

"WE’LL CONTINUE TO FOCUS ON OURSELVES, WE KNOW THE QUALITY WE HAVE AND THAT WE CAN BEAT ANYONE ON OUR DAY"

An incident in the game against Palace saw Downing talked about on social media after the ball appeared to hit his trailing hand, with the centre-back then holding his face and fans then finding the funny side.

“Looking at the video it’s not one I’ll have on repeat, I just had to take the banter from some of the lads after the game.”

“Looking back it was a little bit embarrassing and I’ve taken a lot of stick. Luckily I’m not on twitter but my girlfriend told me there were a few bits flying around,” he says

Rovers face fellow play-off chasing side Charlton Athletic this afternoon, and Downing knows how important it is to beat the teams within close proximity in Sky Bet League One.

“At the time it was one of those where I knew it had hit my hand, and even though it was in a natural position I didn’t want the referee to give a penalty against me.

“We’ve got some of the teams around us left to play and that will be crucial as to where we finish in the league,” he says. “We’ll continue to focus on ourselves, we know the quality we have and that we can beat anyone on our day. “This stage of the season where games are coming quickly is where you need to really take advantage of games in hand and things like that. “There is a lot of football to be played, it’s important the squad stays ready as there will be opportunities for people to get in the team.” A busy March schedule could see Rovers cement their position in the top six, with the experience there in the playing squad to get the job done. “There are seven games in March and with the form we’re in we’ll be looking to win them all, if we can take as many points as possible then we’ll be in a great position,” Downing adds. “We’ve got a good blend of youth and experience in the team, and everyone will be drawing on those experiences to get us through games. “Hopefully we’ve got the right people within our squad that have been there before and can make the difference at key times.”

FOUR TO CHARLTON ATHLETIC

DILLON PHILLIPS TOP STOPPER

01

The Addicks’ youth team product has started to stake a claim in the first team this season, hitting double figures for league appearances for the first time this term. Phillps has also spent time out on loan away from The Valley, playing for Whitehawk and Bishop’s Stortford, before enjoying the 2015/16 season at Cheltenham Town. Phillips would play a key role for the Robins that season as they returned to the EFL at the first attempt, winning the National League title. He signed a new two-year deal with Charlton after his success at Whaddon Road, which was again extended last January for a further year.

BEN REEVES MIDFIELD MAESTRO

12

The Addicks midfielder is a Northern Irish international, making his debut in a Euro 2016 qualifier against Greece in October 2014. After coming up through the ranks at Southampton, Reeves went on to join Milton Keynes in 2013. In his first season at Stadium:MK, he won both the Fans and Players’ Player of the Year, and his second season would be even more successful, helping them to win promotion to the Championship, finishing as runners-up in 2015. Reeves signed a two-year deal at The Valley in the summer of 2017, and he played 29 times last season as the Addicks made it to the League One play-off semi-finals, losing out to Shrewsbury Town.

14

ISSUE 22 v CHARLTON ATHLETIC

O WATCH CHRIS SOLLY DEFENSIVE ROCK

20

The Addicks legend is also a one-club man, having come up through the academy before his senior debut in 2009. Solly was a key figure in the Addicks’ 2011/12 League One title win, going on to win the club’s Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year awards following their promotion, as well as winning it the senior award again the season after following a solid season in the Championship. Despite Solly entering his 11th season of professional football at The Valley, he has only scored three goals in a Charlton shirt, with the last of those coming this season, bagging a last-minute equaliser away at Luton Town, his first goal since 2012.

LYLE TAYLOR DEADLY STRIKER

09

The Montserrat international signed from cross-London rivals AFC Wimbledon over the summer. Taylor began his career with Millwall, though it would be his drop into non-league with Concord Rangers that would kick-start his career. 34 goals in one season for Concord saw him sign for AFC Bournemouth before a successful season with Falkirk where he would score 24 goals in 34 league games for the Bairns. After time with Sheffield United and Scunthorpe United, he joined Wimbledon in 2015, going on to become a fans’ favourite with the Dons, scoring 23 goals in his first season, including the opening goal in their 2017 League Two play-off victory over Plymouth Argyle at Wembley Stadium. Taylor switched to south-east London to link up with the Addicks, hitting the ground running with eight league goals from his first 15 games and he also bagged a hat-trick against Mansfield Town in the first round of this season’s FA Cup.

DONCASTERROVERSFC.CO.UK

15

THE 2011/12 SEASON SAW THE ADDICKS STORM TO THE LEAGUE ONE TITLE UNDER THE LEADERSHIP OF CHRIS POWELL, AND TWO PLAYERS WHO WERE A PART OF THAT SUCCESS ALSO LATER SPENT TIME HERE AT THE KEEPMOAT STADIUM. The first of those is left-back CEDRIC EVINA, who spent three years at The Valley between 2011 and 2014 following his departure from Oldham Athletic. Evina began his career at Premier League giants Arsenal, coming up through the youth ranks in North London and spending 11 years in total with the Gunners. Evina was a part of the young Gunners side that went onto win the FA Youth Cup in 2009, defeating Liverpool 6-2 on aggregate over two legs, before going on to captain the Arsenal youth team the following season. He would then move on to Oldham Athletic, initially on loan in 2010, before joining the Latics on a permanent deal the following year, playing 28 times across both spells at Boundary Park, also winning Oldham’s Young Player of the Year award in 2011. From there, Evina would make his move back to the capital, joining up with Chris Powell’s Addicks upon their return to League One. Though Evina’s appearances during the 2011/12 season were brief, they were still promoted as champions at the end of the campaign, and he featured more regularly in the following couple of seasons in the Championship. After three years at The Valley, Evina would link up with his former Oldham boss Paul Dickov at the Keepmoat Stadium, signing an initial two-year deal with Rovers in 2014, a deal which would be extended even further the following December after some solid performances down the left-hand side. Despite relegation from League One in 2016, Evina was one of a handful of players who remained in South Yorkshire, and he played 16 times in League Two as Rovers achieved promotion at the first time of asking. After finding opportunities limited towards the end of that campaign though, Evina spent the final year of his contract on loan at League Two side Crawley Town before his departure from Doncaster at the end of last season. Evina joined Notts County a couple of months into the 2018/19 season with the Magpies struggling at the foot of the League Two table, making 19 appearances so far as he looks to help the EFL’s oldest club away from the danger zone in the fourth tier.

16

ISSUE 22 v CHARLTON ATHLETIC

Another man who played a brief part in the Addicks’ title-winning season was DANY N’GUESSAN, with the forward making the short trip across London from Millwall on loan to The Valley in 2012. After time with Auxerre and Rangers, as well as a loan spell from the Scottish giants to Boston United, N’Guessan joined up with Lincoln City in 2007, being signed by current Rovers’ Development squad boss John Schofield towards the end of the 2006/07 season. After two years with the Imps, N’Guessan would then move on to join Leicester City, though after much time out away on loan at various clubs, he would make his move to Millwall. He joined up with the Addicks in 2012, playing seven times and scoring four goals in the 2011/12 season whilst at The Valley, before signing a permanent deal at Swindon Town the following year. After spells with Port Vale and Greek side AEL (Larissa), N’Guessan joined up with Evina at the Keepmoat Stadium in 2015 in what was to be a not so memorable stay in South Yorkshire, playing eight times in League One and once in the EFL Trophy, however he was unable to help Rovers in their bid to avoid the drop at the end of the season. N’Guessan would close out his career with Norwegian side IK Start following his departure from the Keepmoat Stadium. Alex Gibbings

MEMORABLE MATCH CHARLTON ATHLETIC

JANUARY 28 2014

Rovers saw off Charlton with ease in Billy Sharp’s first home game back at the Keepmoat Stadium since his return on loan from Southampton. A blistering start to the game from Rovers saw them go two goals up in the first half, before a second-half stunner from Mark Duffy secured a vital three points for the home side. It was Rovers who were creating a lot of the game’s early chances, and their persistence paid off after 26 minutes, with Abdoulaye Meite scoring his first goal in a Rovers shirt. Duffy’s cross from the right-hand side caused the Addicks defence all sorts of problems and after a few bounces in the six-yard box, the ball fell at the feet of Meite who stabbed the ball over the line to hand the home side the lead. 10 minutes later the lead would be doubled, and Charlton would be down to 10 men. Richie Wellens’ through ball was flicked into the path of Sharp by Chris Brown, and with Sharp baring down one-on-one with Charlton stopper Ben Alnwick, Lawrie Wilson came from behind to pull Sharp to the deck. This saw referee Paul Tierney left with no option but to point to the spot and show Wilson a red card, with Brown taking responsibility of the penalty, and sending Alnwick the wrong way to extend the lead. After the interval it would be more of the same from Rovers with Duffy and Sharp both seeing shots from the edge of the area fizz just wide, and with the Charlton defence trying to hold firm and restrict their hosts to just two goals, they were eventually broken down once again by the magnificent Duffy. The Addicks could do absolutely nothing to prevent the killer blow from the midfielder, and with just over 20 minutes to go, the game would be ended as contest, if it wasn’t already following Wilson’s dismissal. Duffy glided his way through the Charlton defence with ease, and he was able to unleash an effort from the edge of the box past Alnwick and into the top corner, sealing three points for Rovers.

Alnwick responded with two good saves late on in the game, with the combination of Duffy and Sharp once again seeing efforts missed as the game drifted towards 90 minutes, but nevertheless, it was a superb performance from Rovers who were able to make it back-to-back 3-0 home wins.

WHAT HAPPENED NEXT? This win came in the middle of a run which saw Rovers lose just three games from 12, including a brilliant March which saw them win four, draw one and lose just once. However, for all this great form, a poor end to the season saw them pick up just one point from six as they headed into their final game of the season, a trip to champions Leicester City. They were defeated 1-0 at the King Power Stadium after David Nugent’s penalty, but it would be late drama elsewhere that would condemn them to relegation, with Birmingham City’s last-minute equaliser saving them from the drop on goal difference. Charlton’s horrible run of form continued after the defeat, as they lost the next two games against Wigan and Birmingham, but they managed to salvage their season and they avoided the drop with games to spare, picking up three wins from the final four games, including big wins against Sheffield Wednesday and Watford, as they finished in 18th with 51 points.

THE

NUMBERS GAME PERHAPS SURPRISINGLY, THE NO. 18 SHIRT HAS HAD ONLY EIGHT WEARERS SINCE DONCASTER ROVERS INTRODUCED SQUAD NUMBERS AT THE START OF THE 2002-03 SEASON. THE FIRST NO. 18 WAS JAMIE PRICE (2002-05), A YOUNG RIGHT-BACK WHO JOINED THE CLUB IN 1999 HAVING PREVIOUSLY BEEN AT LEEDS UNITED’S ACADEMY. HE MADE ONLY SEVEN APPEARANCES IN 2002-03, KEPT OUT OF THE SIDE BY THE EXCELLENT FORM OF SIMON MARPLES, BUT IN 2003-04 HE PLAYED ENOUGH GAMES TO EARN A DIVISION THREE CHAMPIONS MEDAL. HE LEFT ROVERS IN 2005, JOINING YORK CITY. AFTER SPELLS WITH HARROGATE TOWN AND BRADFORD PARK AVENUE, HE IS NOW AT SCARBOROUGH ATHLETIC. His replacement in the No. 18 shirt was another former Leeds United youngster, SEAN MCDAID (2005-10). McDaid made a solid beginning, making 35 League appearances in his debut season, mostly at left-back. He found himself playing second fiddle in that position after the arrival of Gareth Roberts in 2006, although he was sometimes deployed on the left side of midfield. He was perhaps one of the most unlucky players of recent years, being badly injured by a bad tackle in 2006 and then, in April 2008, having just scored his first professional goal, sustaining a dislocated knee in a practice match. That meant he played very little over the next two seasons and in 2010 he moved on to Carlisle United. However, knee problems forced his premature retirement as a player in March 2011, although he has forged a successful career in sports management. SIMON GILLETT (2010-12) had worn the No. 31 shirt during a loan spell from Southampton in 2009-10. When he signed permanently he took over the No. 18. The small but combative midfielder appeared in every League game during the 2011-12 season, but could not prevent Rovers from being relegated from the Championship. He moved on to Nottingham Forest where he linked up with his former manager at Rovers, Sean O’Driscoll. He later played for Yeovil Town. The shirt was not allocated at the start of the 2012-13 season but was worn briefly by EMILE SINCLAIR (2013), on loan from Peterborough United. Dublin-born midfielder PAUL KEEGAN (201317) had worn the No. 31 since arriving from Bohemians in 2010. The former Leeds and Scunthorpe United man decided a change was in order with Rovers back in the Championship for 2013-14. Having previously been hampered by injuries, he went on to enjoy his best season, making 34 League appearances. He was, though, unable to prevent Rovers from dropping back

into League One after only one season. A defensive midfielder whose work often went un-noticed, Keegan was not noted for his goalscoring exploits, but his almost perfect free-kick goal at Burton in December 2015 is still talked about to this day. He left Rovers at the end of the 2016-17 season and returned to Ireland, joining Waterford. In seven seasons at the Keepmoat Stadium he made 145 senior appearances, scoring twice. Last season the No. 18 shirt was worn by two loanees, left-back HARRY TOFFOLO (2017-18) made 13 League appearances on loan from Norwich City. He is now with Lincoln City. TOM ANDERSON (2018) arrived in January 2018 from Burnley to address an injury crisis among Rovers’ centre-backs and has now made the move permanent, switching to the No. 12 shirt. This season the No. 18 has been worn by ISSAM BEN KHEMIS (2018-19), a former Lorient player signed after a promising trial in 2017. He moved to Tunisian club Stade Tunisien in January 2019 and the current No. 18 is young striker TYLER SMITH (2019), on loan to Rovers from Sheffield United. JOHN COYLE

DONCASTER ROVERS

COMMERCIAL GOOD AFTERNOON AND WELCOME TO THE KEEPMOAT STADIUM AS WE WELCOME CHARLTON ATHLETIC IN SKY BET LEAGUE ONE.

It seems so long ago since our fixture against Crystal Palace last month for our last home game, and I’m sure you’ll join me in congratulating Grant McCann’s boys on such an incredible journey in the Emirates FA Cup. We’re back in league action today, though, and it’s a fantastic opportunity to get back into the swing of things and push for the playoffs. Our visitors today have had a slight dip in form recently, but still linger in the play-off spots and with a packed Jibba Jabba Restaurant, this afternoon’s clash is set to be an incredible one. We are delighted to welcome today’s match sponsor and Official Partner, Pristine Commercial Cleaning. Formed in 2016, with the owners having more than 30 years of experience, Pristine Commercial Cleaning

Services Ltd are committed to delivering a unique cleaning service in South Yorkshire areas that is second to none. Their experience at successfully developing proven cleaning strategies within a wide variety of industry sectors, means that they are dedicated to ensuring that their clients receive maximum quality, at a minimum cost. They have gained a reputation for delivering an effective, high quality and competitively priced cleaning service, and are proud to have developed a long list of loyal clients. Also joining us are today’s matchball sponsor, Doncaster Maintenance. New Official Partner, Doncaster Maintenance is one of the UK’s leading maintenance service companies, who have a superior team of experts based in South Yorkshire, ideally located to serve the whole of the UK, quickly and efficiently.

They offer a range of maintenance and repair services including roof & gutter maintenance, roof light replacements, cut edge corrosion treatments and Siphonic drain repairs. They have more than 20 years of first-hand experience in these areas and are continually improving and expanding to keep up with the fast pace of today’s business needs. We wish both our sponsors a very warm welcome today and hope they have a fantastic day with us in hospitality. There are a range of exciting opportunities available to get involved with Club Doncaster on a commercial level, whether that be through an Official Partnership or sponsoring a game. For more information, contact the team on 01302 764665.

SAFETY Three points is not the only priority today. Making sure everyone goes home safe is the most important result. Over recent months we have been working closely with the police and the EFL to review security at the Keepmoat Stadium. Now we are asking you to do your bit. It is vital that everyone - players, staff and supporters - remains vigilant and reports any concerns to stewards or police. Attacks might be rare, and the chance of you being caught up in one unlikely, but the message is ACT #ActionCountersTerrorism. Rovers safety officer Sam Ramsden said:

AD-105x148-Football Foundation.indd 1

"We want everyone to enjoy today’s game at the Keepmoat Stadium but if you see anything that causes you concern, tell a steward or staff member. Please do not worry that you might be wasting our time. "The stewards are here to help keep us all safe so please be patient and cooperate with their instructions. When it comes to security it has to be a team effort and we are all players." Here's a quick reminder of what you can do to help keep yourself and others safe: • Arrive early, allowing more time for security checks • Minimise what you carry, fewer bag searches will speed up entry to the ground

• Be vigilant at all times and if you see anything suspicious, tell a steward right away • If you see anything that could pose an immediate threat to safety, call 999 • In an emergency, listen to the public address instructions and follow them • If told to evacuate, do so immediately, do not wait around to film events on your mobile • Move right away from the stadium as quickly as possible for your safety and to allow clear access for any emergency vehicles • Once you are safe, follow the local police force on Twitter for updates To find out more, visit gov.uk/ACT or @TerrorismPolice

SUPPORTER LIAISON OFFICER DEAN MEDCALF GOOD AFTERNOON LADIES AND GENTLEMEN AND WELCOME TO THE KEEPMOAT STADIUM, AND A WARM WELCOME TO ALL THE VISITING FANS FROM CHARLTON ATHLETIC.

I attend the recent Meet The Owners event which gives the Rovers fans an opportunity to put their questions to the board members and the first team manager. On the top table was Terry Bramall, Andy Watson, David Blunt, Gavin Baldwin and Grant McCann, also in attendance were John Marquis and Alfie May. It was a well-attended event by Rovers fans and there were some interesting questions asked to the top table. One that was asked was with regards to feedback to other clubs following our away games - the question asked was focused on our recent visits to Scunthorpe United and people standing on the steps

which results in other people's view being obstructed.

incident and I have done following our other recent visits.

Prior to each away game, I liaise with the home team to gather information which I then turn into my away guides. Also if I see or come across any issues at an away games I will feed these back to both our club and to the host club. For instance, following our visit to Rotherham last season, I gave feedback on where the coaches picked up after the game. Sometimes the host club will act on this feedback, sometimes they do not.

If you attend any away games and you have anything to feedback to the host club then please get in touch with me and I will liaise with the club.

I did feedback to Scunthorpe following our visit a number of seasons ago with regards to this

Rovers Till I Die Dean Medcalf Supporter Liaison Officer

As always I hope you all enjoy today’s game, if you have any questions then please contact me on the usual SLO social media accounts, @SLO_DRFC on twitter, DRFC SLO on Facebook or you can email me at dean.medcalf@ clubdoncaster.co.uk.

We now face Premier League side Crystal Palace under ex England manager Roy Hodgson, in a one match shootout to get through to the quarter-finals. I along with fellow fan Danny Brown had the privilege of being at the draw live from The One Show studio’s in London last Monday night It was good to meet Ian Wright, Alex Scott, Alex Jones and Mark Chapman - and the Gnome got worldwide coverage. ALL supporters under the age of 16 must have an adult accompanying them, or an adult who will vouch for them, we don’t want to discourage younger fans travelling but with all the safeguarding issues we felt this had to be done. Our North Branch also run coaches to away games from the Carcroft, Adwick A19 corridor, if you live from that side of town travel with a goods set of fans, call 07780316923 Also if you travel to home games from the Retford, Harworth, Rossington area we run a coach to the Keepmoat Stadium, departure time 1pm/6pm from Retford, Harworth 1.20pm/6.20pm and Rossington Styrupp and Labour Club 1.30pm/6.30pm. You can book on the coaches, plus the shop has also had new deliveries of Rovers programmes and other memorabilia. We are hoping to get a programme fair organised, so watch out for more details. If you are a loose end and have any programmes or football books that you want to get rid of, we can collect and take them to the supporter’s club shop. Hope you enjoy the game. Rovers Till We Die Paul Mayfield

VIKING SUPPORTERS CO-OPERATIVE Football is the national game, and football supporters are the lifeblood of the game. While many privately owned football clubs are well run, ours included, there are numerous examples over the years where this model of ownership has failed the supporters of that club, and has led to a number of clubs becoming either partly or fully owned by those supporters. The Minister Of Sport set up the Expert Working Group with the intention of looking at ways to improve engagement and dialogue between clubs and fans, and therefore to improve transparency and trust. The detailed recommendations from the EWG led to the government instructing the EFL and the Premier League to enter into structured dialogue with those supporters, and especially with the supporters trust at that club. As you may be aware the club hold two Meet The Owners events each year which meet the criteria set down by the EFL. On top of that the club have a Supporters Board which meets on a regular basis during the season to discuss a very broad range of topics. Suffice to say that DRFC have not only met the requirements but have exceeded them in both frequency and content, and that is something we can once again be proud of. Martin O'Hara

FOUNDATION UP

Club Doncaster Foundation’s bike library has continued to help people across the Doncaster region, none more so than cycling enthusiast Matthew. The free hire scheme, funded by Doncaster Council, allows people to borrow bikes and equipment free of charge. Doncaster-born Matthew has benefitted massively from the scheme. He said: “I lost my job near the end of 2018 and have been struggling to find work, the bike scheme has given me the motivation to get myself back out in town. “I’ve struggled with heart problems which means I can’t drive a car, so cycling is the best way for me to get around.” After months of deliberation around purchasing a bike, Matthew was told about the bike hire scheme by an advisor at the Job Centre. He said: “I needed a way to get around. I’m not a huge fan of buses

40

ISSUE 22 v CHARLTON ATHLETIC

and thought about getting a bike, but with the loss of my job I didn’t have much money spare. “The Job Centre told me about the Foundation’s free bike scheme so I rang up on the Friday, and by the Monday I was picking it up. It was that easy. “I recently moved to Selby and wanted to carry on with the bike hire, so I changed bike, which Scott helped me do with ease.” Having recently secured a job, Matthew felt access to the bike kept his mental health in check. He added: “It was a week before Christmas when I lost my job. I then lost my flat soon after and I was so down. I struggle with my mental health, so without having the bike I’m not sure where I’d be right now.

“Cycling relaxes me and allows me to think. It’s a great scheme and now I will be using the bike to cycle to and from my new job.” Club Doncaster Foundation is recognised as an official Yorkshire Bank Bike Library known as Rovers Bike Library. A range of more than 75 bikes are available to the public for hire including children's bikes, road bikes, mountain bikes and all the necessary equipment depending on which adventure you choose. The public can also donate unwanted bikes to Club Doncaster Foundation, which will then be fixed and modified by the specialist mechanics and used as part of the scheme to allow more people to access cycling.

DATE NCS graduates and ambassadors from this summer’s programme put on a mini NCS programme prior to the visit of Peterborough United on February 9. The graduates, as one of their projects for the year, came up with the idea to showcase NCS to Rovers fans and the young people who attended the match - plus they raised £150 for Mind. They put on a mini NCS experience of the three main waves during the summer: adventure, discovery and social action. Graduates were on hand to speak about their experiences on the programme and coordinated all the activities on the match day, which took place before kick off around the East Stand entrance. The NCS team also guided the graduates and ambassadors on a half time parade around the pitch, with clips and images shown on the big screen throughout half time. All money raised throughout the activities on the day was then donated to Mind, whom Rovers have worked closely with throughout the calendar year as the EFL’s charity partners for the season. As part of the EFL Trust's on going association with the NCS programme, Doncaster Rovers first team players showed their support of the programme by warming up in NCS t-shirts before the match. Clubs from all over the country get been involved with the NCS matchday, showing their support of the nationwide programme.
