TUL L 1 0 0 – F OOT B A L L R E MEM B ERS WA LTER TULL N O B A R R I E RS M E DA L CH A L L ENGE Remember Walter Tull and stand up against discrimination by doing the No Barriers medal challenge One hundred years ago, on the 25th March 1918, during the final year of the First World War, footballer Walter Tull was killed in action at the age of just 29. Before the outbreak of war in 1914, Tull’s playing career had seen him make more than 100 senior appearances for Northampton Town, before becoming the first infantry officer of black heritage in the British Army to lead his men into battle. From the football pitch to pitch battle, he made history and was an inspiration to others. To mark the centenary of Walter Tull’s death, the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government and Big Ideas in conjunction with the EFL, Football Association and Premier League’s Football Remembers initiative invite schools, football teams and youth, arts and voluntary groups to celebrate his life and achievements through Tull 100 – Football Remembers.

A word from the manager
Darren Ferguson Good afternoon, and welcome to Neal Ardley as well as the supporters, players and staff of AFC Wimbledon.
to the Keepmoat Stadium after working here prior to spells with Doncaster Knights and Sheffield Wednesday.
Print deadlines mean I need to write these notes prior to the Good Friday trip to Blackpool, so as I write these our last game was the 2-0 victory over Bradford City live on Sky TV.
The grounds staff have all worked hard over a testing few months. Our pitch is one of the better ones in the division – compare it to the one at Southend we played on a couple of weeks ago for instance – and they deserve great credit for their efforts.
The past two home matches have seen us score five goals, collect six points and get two clean sheets. At this point of the season it is all about the result, and I cannot ask for much more from my players – they have shown they have the desire to finish the season strongly. I expect total commitment from them in all eight remaining games. This is set to be a busy month for us, with seven fixtures to fit in. Some good news is we will have a number of players back from injury, which will be a real help as there will not be a lot of recovery time between games.
The backing of supporters has been impressive throughout my time here, and I know many of you will be at most or all of those games – your efforts in getting behind everyone at the club is truly appreciated. We have had really encouraging early sales of Season Memberships for next season, a further sign of the great support from fans. This is a real help to those who look after the business side of the club, and gives us a strong hand when looking at our summer transfer activity. Enjoy the game
I would like to wish James Davison, who has left us to take on a new role as head groundsman at Lincoln City, good luck. I look forward to working with his replacement Pete Needham who returns

Thoughts of the chief executive
Gavin Baldwin Good afternoon and welcome back to the Keepmoat Stadium. I’d like to welcome the supporters, players and staff of the visitors who have travelled up from the capital today. We head into today’s game on the back of consecutive home wins, both of which came with clean sheets. The 2-0 win over Bradford City was seen around the world thanks to the Sky TV cameras being in town. This was the second time Sky Sports have shown a home game live this season, after twice coming to the Keepmoat Stadium last year. They are always very complimentary about our facilities and staff, and I don’t think it is a coincidence they jump at the chance to return. The players deserve a lot of credit for their recent performances. While we were all frustrated by the nature of defeat at Rotherham, after a performance which deserved more, the win over Bradford left us with seven points from the 12 available prior to the Good Friday trip to Blackpool.
sales. This is tremendous backing, but no less than we have come to expect from our loyal supporters. There is still plenty of time to secure your spot for next season, and benefits for purchasing as quickly as possible. We have a daily prize draw which offers some great and unique items - so the earlier you commit to backing us next season the more chances you have to win. Prizes still to be won include a pie and pint on us for every home game next season, a chance to be co-commentator on iFollow Rovers for a game and the opportunity for Darren Ferguson to coach your junior team. The Box Office will be open after today’s game until 5.30pm should you wish to get your name in the hat.
Doncaster RLFC have started the 2018 season in great form. Richard Horne’s side had won all five competitive games going into the Good Friday game against York, while our new family area – These are the kind of displays and results building on the success of Donny Dog’s which can give us a lot of confidence going Kennel – has been earning a lot of praise. into the final eight games of the Sky Bet The Dons have a run of home games League One season, and looking ahead over the course of this month and I to the next campaign. reccomend coming down to experience a Dons matchday. Another reason for us to look forward to next year is the Season Membership Enjoy the game sales. Due to print deadlines coming forward for Easter I have had to write these notes almost a week before the game – and we had just surpassed 1,500

TOMMY ROWE In two years as a Rovers player, Tommy Rowe has racked up more than 100 appearances, and has his sights set on reaching more milestones with the club. Rowe went past the 100 game mark in Rovers’ win over Braford City last month, and says the achievement meant playing in the game was a bit more special than usual.
everything about the club excites me and I believe we can improve further. “Being one of the more experienced players in the squad makes it more enjoyable because it means I am able to watch the younger players come through and have an impact.”
Having a strong mindset has been the key to Rowe’s success in his career so “Obviously it was nice for far, with a number of me, it’s not something promotions on his I really kept track of CV while working “I needed to find a home personally but to be under manager and I’ve done that now, reminded in the buildDarren Ferguson. everything about the club up meant that I could excites me and I believe we appreciate the game for The No.10 has studied can improve further” what it was,” he says. psychology for the past few years in order to “To get the win on the give himself a different night as well made it even better, it’s challenge once he finishes playing, as a rare thing these days to be able to well as allowing him to deal with testing play so many games for one club so it’s times on the pitch slightly better. something I’m really proud of. The fact that Rowe already has plans in place for when playing football is no longer an option is something which many younger players could take and use for themselves, with a career as a footballer not your average career. “I want to have something to fall back on when I finish playing, so many players don’t have that and it can come back to bite them, so I consider myself fortunate,” says Rowe. “There are so many different options or opportunities which may come up, a lot of people go into the media or coaching and that remains something I’d look at. It’s all about having an understanding that it is only a short career for us: isn’t your usual job and doesn’t last forever.” Rowe’s consistent performances during his time in South Yorkshire have seen

“Whether I’m captain or not I still try to play the same way, I will always take responsibility and lead by example wherever I’m playing on the pitch.” The 2017/18 campaign has seen the emergence of some bright talents in the Rovers squad, most notably Alfie Beestin, who has become a key player since breaking into the team in November. Rowe is a big admirer of Beestin, and has regularly complemented the 20-year-old and his ability to earn the team positive results in Sky Bet League One. “I’ve said so many times now just how good Alfie is, the form he’s been in hasn’t changed him as a person but you can see his confidence has grown,” he says. “He’s been brilliant for us and has scored some important goals, his all round

“It’s important for him that he stays level headed, but I think he will because he’s that sort of person. He just takes it game by game and credit to him for that.” As one of the most experienced players in the Rovers squad, Rowe reckons one or two arrivals of the same quality in the summer transfer window may make a difference going into next season.
OR
With eight games left of the current campaign though, there is still plenty to play for with a possible 24 points up for grabs. “We’re in a position where a few good results would see us go from strength to strength, I think we all know that performances have been good but we want to be higher in the table,” Rowe adds. “We need to take care of what we can have a say in, the manager has set us out a plan and it is important that we stick to that as much as possible. Everybody wants to finish the season strongly, it does give you some momentum during pre-season as you’re used to winning games and performing well as a team.”

Grab your walking boots and take on a March for Men this June, in aid of Prostate Cancer UK Prostate Cancer UK is the official charity oartner of the EFL. Their “Man of Men” logo sits proudly in the squad numbers of every one of our player’s shirts. Prostate Cancer UK’s “Man of Men” represents everyone who wants to stop prostate cancer being a killer. It’s a badge proudly worn by Sky Sports presenter Jeff Stelling and his fellow pundits week in week out on Soccer Saturday. How can you help? This June, Prostate Cancer UK will again be recruiting an army of walkers across the country after new figures have shown the number of men dying from prostate cancer has overtaken the number of women dying from breast cancer, making prostate cancer the third biggest cancer killer in the UK. To combat these stats the charity

Providing a choice of distances – circa 2k, 5k, or 1 0k - participants are encouraged to fundraise through sponsorship in their own bid to beat the disease. Robert Oldroyd, aged 74 from in Nottingham, said: “I was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2003. I had a PSA test, my levels were quite high, so I then had a biopsy, which indicated I had prostate cancer. I was never aware of my risk, I didn’t have any symptoms and I don’t have a family history of the disease. “Going through this experience has changed my outlook on life – I appreciate things more and don’t take life for granted. MP Ed Miliband has hailed Doncaster Rovers as much more than just a football club after seeing first-hand the community work carried out by the Club Doncaster Foundation. The Doncaster North MP visited the Keepmoat Stadium to meet students from Club Doncaster Sports College, as well as join in a Fit Rovers session. Fit Rovers is a scheme aimed at improved the health of men, giving lifestyle advice and lifestyle guidance which has seen remarkable results - with more than 74 stone collectively lost across the first six stagings of the course. Ed said: “Doncaster Rovers is much more than a football club, with the fitness and education programmes it is at the heart of the community and inspiring the community The club are doing an amazing job in getting people who would not normally keep fit into fitness, healthy

eating, losing weight, feeling fitter and better about themselves. “The way Doncaster Rovers is at the heart of the community is incredibly impressive, if you look at what is happening with all the community work and in education - I also met students who are really inspired by what they are learning and the environment in which they are doing it.” Ed spent time talking to Fit Rovers participants about their motivation for taking part, and hopes the successes at the Keepmoat Stadium can be built on to help people across Doncaster. He added: “I met one chap who had lost seven stone in a year. And it’s not just from the exercise, but from changing his diet and other lifestyle choices. It is that inspiration Fit Rovers has given him to make the changes in his lifestyle - just imagine what that could mean for the National Health Service.”

AWAY TEAM AFC WIMBLEDON
TOP STOPPER The Dons keeper is currently on a season-long loan from Sheffield United. Long joined the Blades Academy in 2002 and was part of the side that made the FA Youth Cup final in 2011, where they lost out over two legs to Manchester United. He made his breakthrough into the first team in 2011, starting on the final day of the 2010/11 season, and becoming the Blades’ youngest ever keeper in the process. Long had time in and out of the side over the following seasons and spent 2014/15 away from Bramall Lane with loan spells at Oxford United and Motherwell. He signed a year-long loan deal with Neal Ardley’s side back in July and has established himself as No.1 this season.
GEORGE LONG
1
MIDFIELD MAESTRO A man who needs no introduction to Rovers fans, the midfielder is currently on a season-long loan from Scottish Premiership side Rangers. After spells with Northampton Town, Watford and Aston Villa, Forrester signed for Brentford in 2011. He was a key player for the Bees over his two years at Griffin Park, notably earning an FA Cup replay with Chelsea in 2013. Later that year, Forrester made the move to the Keepmoat Stadium, where he would then spend the next two-and-a-half years, scoring 11 times for Rovers. His most famous strikes include his free-kick goal from the half-way line at Gillingham, and his accidental goal, again from distance, when passing the ball back to the Bury goalkeeper on the opening day of the 2015/16 season.

HARRY FORRESTER
DEFENSIVE ROCK The Dons captain became the first player to win three different finals with three different clubs at Wembley Stadium following Wimbledon’s play-off victory back in 2016.
BARRY FULLER
2
Fuller joined Stevenage from Charlton Athletic in 2006, helping them to win the FA Trophy in 2007, before making a move to Gillingham the following year. He was named Gills’ captain just nine months after making the move and, in May 2009, he helped them to earn promotion to League One, via the playoffs, beating Dagenham and Redbridge at Wembley. After more than 150 appearances for the Gills, and a further season with Barnet, he joined the Dons in 20013 and played an instrumental part in promotion to League One in 2016.
DEADLY STRIKER The Montserrat international is a big fan favourite at Kingsmeadow and is currently in his third season with the Dons.
LYLE TAYLOR
33
Taylor began his career with Millwall but dropped into non-league with Isthmian League Division One side Concord Rangers in 2009. His form earned him a move to Bournemouth, spending two years on the south coast. He crossed the border in 2012, spending one season with Falkirk, scoring 24 goals for the Bairns in the Scottish First Division. Taylor moved to Sheffield United the following season, before joining League One rivals Scunthorpe United in 2014, with loan spells from both clubs to Partick Thistle. He joined the Dons in 2015, scoring 20 league goals for Wimbledon, as well as the opening strike in their play-off final win over Plymouth Argyle in 2016.
19
JOINT FIVE-A-SIDE GOALKEEPER Neil SULLIVAN The Sutton born shot stopper described as a solid keeper began his footballing adventure at Wimbledon in the era of the Crazy Gang, providing cover for Dave Beasant. He went on to make 181 appearances for the Dons and also spent a period on loan at Crystal Palace. Having had spells with Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea and Leeds United, Rovers brought in the Scotland International on two loan spells from the latter which saw him make 16 appearances over the course of 2006-07. Sullivan was snapped up on a permanent deal and went on to make more than 200 total appearances, being part of the sides that won promotion from League One in 2008 and 2013. He only featured a handful of times in the latter campaign, though, spending part of the campaign back on loan with Wimbledon who were in their second season back in the Football League. Sullivan is goalkeeper coach at the Leeds United Academy.
DEFENDERS David BRADLEY
Born in Salford, David was an ex-England schoolboy international. He joined Rovers in the summer of 1978 from Manchester United where he had a spell on loan with Wimbledon prior to his move: Rovers paid a ÂŁ10,000 transfer fee to secure his
20
services. Bradley went on to make his Rovers debut on August 18 1978 when Rovers clinched a 4-2 away victory in the Fourth Division against Hartlepool United. He made 67 appearances, scoring five goals, in his two years with Rovers.
MIDFIELDERS Harry FORRESTER Arrived at he Rovers in June 2013 having left Brentford after his contract expired. He had been part of the famous match at Griffin Park which saw Rovers claim the League One title in style - except he had been on the losing side with the Bees. He made 66 senior appearances for Rovers, scoring eight goals, before mocing to Glasgow to join the Scottish giants on a permant move in January 2016. He featrued 44 times for the Gers, netting eight times, before joining Wimbledon on a seasonlong loan in August 2017.
STRIKERS Jason EUELL The versatile Jamaican International who can play either as a midfielder or forward began his career at Wimbledon, scoring 47 for the Dons in 177 appearances prior to his club record £4.75 million move to Charlton in 2001. He moved on
to Middlesbrough in 2006, before time at Southampton and Blackpool. He joined Rovers on loan from the Seasiders in February 2011, scoring three goals in 12 appearances. He returned to Charlton that summer, before ending his career back where it began with the Dons.
Adebayo AKINFENWA The Beast is – quite literally – one of the biggest characters in football. His first professional breakthrough came at Rovers, having spent time up until then in the lower leagues of English football. He hit four goals in nine appearances after joining from Rushden & Diamonds. He moved to Torquay that summer, hitting 16 goals in a season before joining Swansea City. After a spell at Millwall, he went on to have spells at Northampton, Gillingham, AFC Wimbledon and Wycombe - with goals a regular occurrence at all these clubs. His two-year spell with today’s visitors brought 23 goals and culminated with the match-clinching second goal in the League Two play-off final against Plymouth.

MY WEEK: CLUB CHAPLAIN As a former Rovers captain, Barry Miller is a familiar face at the club. He sees his most important role as listening - to whomever needs a chat MONDAY-WEDNESDAY, FRIDAY I get up at 6am every day to pray then get the kids ready for school. I am a teaching assistant during the week, which is a really varied job and involves doing whatever the teachers require from me. I am just there to support the kids, really, whether it is helping with reading or any worries they may have. When I was playing for Rovers I suffered a knee injury, and although I came back I was never the same and stopped playing to spend time with my daughter and wife. Once my second child, my son, started going to school I ended up volunteering one day a week with the younger kids and it built from there to the four days a week I am now there. I have just trained to do forest school. We have an area at the back of the school where, working with one of the pupils’ dads, to help us develop - I take the kids out one afternoon a week to do activities like building dens, climbing trees and hide and seek. There are more structured activities, too, but the aim is to get them outdoors and running round - their imagination is brilliant. I’m available to do this any afternoon the teachers need me too. Last week we had kids bring their grandparents down to help clear space in a new allotment area.
22
THURSDAY After dropping my son off at school we have a prayer meeting, then I head to the Rovers’ training ground at Cantley Park and am usually there by about 9.15am. My role is to be supportive to anyone who wants a chat really, so I speak to the media manager Luke who is always down there getting stuff signed and talking to the players, and any other staff and players who are happy to talk. There are pressures with being a footballer, all sorts of stuff can affect you, and I’m an outlet to help people talk about things. I was never as good as some of the guys we have now, but as a former professional player myself I understand the pressures that the players are under. Darkness is the same no matter what takes you there. I’m not employed by the club so am independent, I am loyal to the person stood or sat in front of me, and just want to listen, really. I then head down to the Keepmoat Stadium. Often people are so busy that when I walk round the offices the staff are out working, but it’s a chance for anyone to talk about what is going on in their family lives or anything that might be affecting them. I’m there to help out really - whether it is saying a prayer for someone’s family member
or putting a clock up on a wall in someone’s office. I will do services for ashes spreading for anyone who requires it in the memorial garden at the Keepmoat Stadium, which is usually on a Thursday or Saturday. MATCHDAY I started getting involved with the groundstaff when Andy Thompson was the head groundsman, who was here where I was a player. From spending time with the team I got to know them well, so it was a natural progression to help out a little bit – so I’m often out there divoting the pitch just before kick-off and at half-time. I get here early and have a walk around, again just to speak to people. The fulltime staff will all be here, but there are a lot of guys who come in to supplement the team on matchdays. From wandering round at games I’ve got to know a lot of supporters as well, and have had people contact me through social media to ask for advice. I am passionate about my Christian faith, but I am not a “bible basher”. SUNDAY My son plays football in the morning, which brings difficulties with regards to church. Bruce Dyer, who used to play for Rovers, started a church in Barnsley which we get across to for the afternoon.

Words from the Academy manager
KIERAN SCARFF I would like to take this opportunity to thank, on behalf of all Academy staff and players, both the Viking Supporters Co-Operative and the Doncaster Rovers Supporters Club for their generous support of the academy by sponsoring the kits of our U9s through to U16s Academy teams.
We have recently received an outstanding report from the EFL’s education ombudsman. The report highlighted outstanding practice in relation to supporting our aim to produce outstanding young people in addition to supporting the academic progress of each and every player in our programme.
The support we have received from both supporters clubs will help enhance the opportunities we provide for all our young players. It is great to receive such support from the club’s supporters. It shows how much they value the work we are doing to produce players through our Academy programme who have a real affinity for this football club. It really is another example of everybody associated with the club pulling in the same direction, something that is so important as we continue to build and progress across the club. Thanks again to all those who have made the decision to provide this support.
A massive thank you must go to Tony Morton, our head of education and welfare, who does a fantastic job in co-ordinating the work in this area, along with all our academy staff who actively support and promote our aims in this area. Tony’s fantastic input was highlighted in the report and he, and our staff, fully deserves the recognition this brings.
Paul Stancliffe payed tribute to his makeshift side as they beat local rivals Rotherham United 1-0 away from home last Saturday – an impressive result against a side who are second in the table. He said: “All victories are pleasing, but this was hard-fought, we expected to come under pressure from Rotherham, but I thought we stood up to it really well, especially as we had a younger team. The system was something we had played before, we felt that with the injuries and lads we’ve got out it was the best way to go. Ben Blythe’s come in from the U16s – he’s the only centre-half we’ve got who’s fit so we just felt that was the best way to go - and done well. “I said to the lads in the changing room they should be setting themselves targets and I’m not gonna set any targets for them, they should be setting their goals: the strikers – how many goals are you going to get from now until the end of the season? The defenders – how many clean sheets? How many games are we going to go unbeaten?”

TEN YEARS AGO: DONCASTER ROVERS IN SEASON 2007-08. Part 20 Tuesday April 8, 2008, did not see Rovers in action but several of their promotion rivals were playing. The top two met at Brunton Park, where Carlisle United and Swansea City drew 0-0. Nottingham Forest were surprisingly held 1-1 at home by Bristol Rovers and Southend United leapfrogged them into fourth place by beating Brighton 2-0. Rovers remained third, six points behind Carlisle and two ahead of Southend They had an opportunity to close the gap on the Cumbrians when they met Swindon Town at home on Friday April 11. Rovers were below full strength with Matt Mills suspended after his red card at Huddersfield and James Coppinger and Richie Wellens both injured. Sam Hird, Lewis Guy (pictured) and Sean McDaid deputised, while Gareth Taylor and Mark McCammon, whose arrival had improved matters at Huddersfield, started up front.
looped towards goal only for Neil Sullivan to pull off a superb save. After 66 minutes McCammon latched onto a pass and ran clear only for Aljofree to haul him down inside the area. The defender was dismissed and Brian Stock converted the penalty with his usual coolness. Rovers held firm against the ten men and ran out 2-0 winners. It was far from a convincing performance but three vital points had been secured. Saturday’s results were a mixed bag for Rovers. Leeds United beat second placed Carlisle 3-2 to strengthen their play-off claims while Forest won at Tranmere and Southend were held 1-1 by Northampton Town. Leeds’ win threatened to have greater significance because of their appeal against their 15 point deduction, imposed as a result of their previous financial difficulties.
Nevertheless they took the lead after 40 minutes when Taylor’s neat pass found McDaid who slotted past Brezovan.
The appeal was held on April 16and the verdict would follow before the end of the season. Rovers, Swansea and Carlisle had threatened legal action against the Football League if the sanction was overturned. Potentially it would move Leeds up from 6th to 2nd and make them favourites for automatic promotion.
The visitors were almost level 10 minutes into the second half when Stephen Roberts’ clearance struck Paynter and

Saturday April 19. Mills, Wellens and Coppinger were all back in the side, Hird, McDaid and Guy making way. Although Rovers had early chances through Taylor and Coppinger they were below par again and it came as no surprise when the home side led after 40 minutes, Gray heading in Demetriou’s cross. In the second half Bircham almost made it 2-0 before Rovers levelled on the hour, McCammon collecting Coppinger’s cross and shooting past Morris. Mills hit a post following a corner and then Morris made a superb double save to deny McCammon a second. Leyton Orient then had a goal chalked off for a foul and Daniels missed an excellent chance to win the game for them late on. Rovers had been less then convincing and were happy to leave London with a point. Elsewhere Carlisle’s home defeat by Southend meant that Swansea City were proclaimed Champions of League One despite losing at home to Yeovil Town. There were also wins for Forest and Leeds. Carlisle remained second with 79 points, Rovers were two behind in third while Forest were on 76, Southend on 75 and Leeds on 70. Two games remained and, although the top six was now certain, the race for second place remained very much open. John Coyle

NEWS
The team at Visit Doncaster have released a video that is guaranteed to bring the warmth of spring and the hope of long summer days out just a little closer. Fresh from the success of the second edition of the Doncaster Visitor Guide, published in January, the video is three minutes long and crammed with places to go, things to do and visitor attractions across Doncaster, with something in there for everyone. Visit Doncaster recently launched its Official Partnership with Club Doncaster with the aim of spreading the word of all that is great about the town. Destination manager Lorna Reeve said: “Doncaster is a great place to visit and it’s our job to get that message out there. We’re targeting locals and new visitors alike with our publications, events and
38
now this short promotional film. We absolutely believe Doncaster has so much to offer, whether that’s our history and heritage, our great green spaces, hotels, shopping or family friendly visitor attractions there really is something for everyone.” The team are keen to point out that it’s not all about the big attractions and the film reflects this with great coverage of smaller venues, attractions and lesser known gems. Lorna added: “The visitor economy is such an important part of the development of the town too. New investors, new businesses and attractions not only need visitors but benefit from the spend these visitors make, hotels and restaurants see improvements, the cultural offer improves and generally prosperity and growth brings, about positive change”.

SOCIAL MEDIA HIGHLIGHTS

The latest from the
Communications team Last weekend I read a blog post from Rob Terrace, who is the official photographer for Doncaster RLFC. He talked about his struggles with depression and how one afternoon earlier this year he drove off with the intention of ending his life. On the day he had those thoughts, he put a post on twitter which worried anyone who read it. Those of us who had some kind of relationship with Rob replied, hoping that it may help him realise the impact he is haivng in his life. Last weekend he blogged his thanks, naming Dons chief executive Carl Hall, player Kyle Kesik, James Coppinger and msyelf as people who played a role in him still being here. It is humbling to think the impact social media can have, but a reminder of why those of us who control the public voice of Rovers – and all of the Club Doncaster sides - have great responsibility. This is in fact the second time this season tweets from us have been credited with helping save a life. That, in my opinion, is a sign of how much importance Club Doncaster staff are encouraged to place on mental health.
if we have not full seen a goal scored at the other end of the pitch and credit the assist to the wrong person, we’ll get abusive responses telling us how poor it is we can’t identify someone with five players stood in the way. You should see the tweets we get if our result “busts” someone’s betting coupon. We have good managers at Club Doncaster: the way Darren Ferguson handled Matty Blair when he struggled with the loss of his brother should be held up as a shining example of man management. Please consider that if you see a tweet during a match with a typo, or come to a catering point at a game and the person serving you isn’t sure where things are, or the Box Office cannot find your details in the system, that every single person at Club Doncaster is giving their all to try and help you. Luke Thornhill Club Doncaster media manager
Professional sport is a demanding and ruthless environment. It is easy to forget the pressures that are placed on players and staff. I am lucky to have a talented team working for me, but we know that everything we do will be dissected. We know that if we don’t spot a typo when proofing a story, there is every chance that there will be a thread on the fans message board decrying it. We know that
Sine FM highlight a song from a local artist which is played before every home game. Today’s band is Cora Pearl and the track is Hope Machine.

SUPPORTERS Official Supporters Club Welcome to all the AFC Wimbledon supporters who have made the trip up to South Yorkshire today. We had an enjoyable trip to Kingsmeadow earlier in the season, even though the home side took the points. It’s great to see clubs rise from the ashes and work their way through the leagues again. Hope they enjoy the day here at the Keepmoat Stadium, and have a safe trip back home. We got well deserved point down at Southend United, on a pitch resembling a ploughed field, Marko Marosi made a couple of great saves, but John Marquis and Alex Kiwomya were thwarted by the home keeper with a couple of great stops. We took 324 fans down to Roots Hall – it’s a long way, but it makes the trip back better with a point in the bag. The next away game is at Gillingham on Saturday April 7, followed the week after at Milton Keynes, please book early for the coaches. Paul on 07961727769 or Len on 01302 817347. A big well done to the Main branch of the Supporters Club along with the VSC, in sponsoring the Rovers Academy for the season. They are supporting the future of the club’s youth policy. If you live in the Retford, Harworth, Rossington area, why not use the Supporters Club home bus, which runs every home match at a very competitive
44
price. If you live on Bawtry Road you can also use this service at £1 return. It runs direct to the Keepmoat Stadium and back and there no need to book, just turn up. Please let us know if would like picking up on Bawtry Road - call 07961727769 for more information. Our North branch also run coaches to most away games from Carcroft, Adwick, and points along the A19. They are a good active branch, it makes it much easier to travel if you live that way on – call 07780316923 for more information. We also run coaches for certain games from the Sprotborough area, and the travel club have pick ups in the Hatfield area. Please remember there is no alchohol is allowed on the coaches. The Supporters Club weekend away will be for the last game of the season, away at Oldham on April 27-29. We are looking at stopping at the Prince of Wales Hotel in Southport from Friday til the Sunday, cost will be about £125 per person, bed, breakfast and evening meal. The Branch Dinner dance this season will be Friday May 11 at the Mount Pleasant Hotel. Rovers til I die Paul Mayfield
DRFCFans4Foodbanks Rovers supporters have now donated more than 500kg of food to a fans-led foodbank collection after a record haul at the Charlton game. Organisers set an ambitious target of collecting 100kg prior to the visit of Charlton Athletic, meaning the overall raised would hit 500kg and match the landmark 500th EFL appearance of Rovers captain James Coppinger on the same day. And with a record number of donations prior to the game - the aim was just achieved. That included a significant donation from Club Doncaster staff after a collection from staff based at the Keepmoat Stadium. The DRFCFans4Foodbanks initiative launched just before Christmas with a foodbank collection point outside the Belle Vue Bar at every home game with volunteers there to accept donations. The foodbank collection will be in place again for the visit of Fleetwood Town on Saturday February 17.
Suggested items are: Cereal Soup Pasta Rice Pasta sauce Beans Tinned meat Tinned vegetables Tea/coffee Tinned fruit Biscuits Non-food items are also welcome, such as: Toiletries – deodorant, toilet paper, shower gel, shaving gel, shampoo, soap, toothbrushes, tooth paste, hand wipes Household items – laundry liquid detergent, laundry powder, washing up liquid Feminine products – sanitary towels and tampons Baby supplies – nappies, baby wipes and baby food. (Please note, due to advice from UNICEF they cannot accept formula milk.)
Fans can also leave donations at the Club Doncaster Box Office or club shop on nonmatchdays.

Travelling by train: Fenny Stratford station is just over a mile away from the ground, but this is served by a local line so a better option might be to take a train to Bletchley Station. This is about two miles from the ground and is accessible by shuttle bus services or a taxi.-

Since 2000, the Football Foundation has been transforming grassroots facilities across the country thanks to the generous investment provided by the Premier League, The FA and the Government via Sport England.
39,160 If every changing room the Football Foundation ever funded was combined, 39,160 players would be able to change simultaneously!
If every all-weather and natural grass pitch the Football Foundation funded was laid back-toback, it would stretch from London’s BIG BEN TO CALAIS!
x351
If every goalpost the Football Foundation funded were stacked on top of each other, it would create a structure equivalent to the height of 351 WEMBLEY STADIUMS!
The total area of every all-weather pitch the Football Foundation has funded is equivalent to NEW YORK’S CENTRAL PARK!

CLUB DONCASTER FOUNDATION
Children from across the borough have been invited to the Keepmoat Stadium today by Club Doncaster Foundation. Schools that work with the Foundation were given the chance to reward the students who have shown tremendous commitment to their studies through attendance of 97 per cent or better with tickets to matches. The ‘attendance for attendance’ scheme is part of the schools package available at Club Doncaster Foundation, which includes exclusive privileges such as stadium visits, signed merchandise and player visits. Community co-ordinator for school sport Kelly Jackson said: “When we go into schools with the mascot Donny Dog to explain attendance for attendance, you can just see the excitement on the childrens’ faces. A lot of them are
52
Doncaster Rovers fans so it just makes their day. It’s great to reward the students that already work really hard in their studies but also it acts as a great incentive for the ones that could improve.” A big welcome to all students from the following schools: Cawood Primary School, Selby Abbey Primary School, West Road Primary School, Carlton in Snaith Community Primary School, Balby Central Primary, Sunnyfields Primary School, Kirk Sandall Infant School, Bentley High Street Primary School, Bessacarr Primary School, Marshlands Primary School, Rosedale Primary School, Thorne Brooke Primary School and Ranby Church of England Primary School. For more information on schools packages or schools community work, contact Kelly on on kelly.jacksonpowell@clubdoncasterfoundation.co.uk 01302 764663.
Rovers player Matty Blair took part in a PE lesson at Auckley School as part of the EFL’s Day Of Action. Matty is a regular at events put on by the Club Doncaster Foundation, and joined in the session which was highlighted in national media with a live appearance on Sky Sports News. Matty said: “We had a bit of a kick around with the kids, just getting them involved and having a bit of fun. It’s no secret that I’ve always enjoyed these visits, it’s a chance to interact and learn from new people. “When I signed for the club I could see straight away that we were big in the
community, so I’ve just tried to go with it and me and the football club get on great. “It’s massive that we have that bond between supporters, players and club in general. It’s really important to us as players that the fans feel part of the club, and we really appreciate their support. The Foundation coaches do a great job day to day with so many sessions like this one, so it’s great I can give back and help them out a bit.” Club Doncaster Foundation used the EFL Day of Action to highlight the varied areas of delivery from the organisation, as well as the launch of the Kicks Challenge hosted by Rovers players.
