Transgender (trans) people have long been part of football. Across the leagues trans fans have been supporting their clubs for many years and on pitches up and down the country, trans people have been playing the game they love. In 2015 the FA updated their policy on trans people in football to make it easier and fairer for trans people to participate in the game. The FA believes that ‘gender identity should not be a barrier to participation in football’. Nor do we.
Last summer Lucy Clark, a Non-League referee who is trans talked to the papers about her transition. She told the press “I have kept this secret hidden away most of my life. Now is the time to be ME”. We believe that football is at its best when people can bring their whole selves to the game, which is why we’ve launched the Football v Transphobia week of action from 24 - 31 March. We’re standing up for transgender people in the beautiful game. Will you?

"WE CAN TAKE SOME REAL BELIEF INTO THE SEVEN REMAINING LEAGUE GAMES AND, HOPEFULLY, THREE MORE IN THE PLAYOFFS"
GRANT McCANN GOOD AFTERNOON AND WELCOME TO THE KEEPMOAT STADIUM AS WE TAKE ON WALSALL. THEY HAVE EVERYTHING TO PLAY FOR AND KNOW THEY WILL FIGHT FOR EVERY BALL, BUT WE HAVE EVERY REASON TO BELIEVE WE CAN STRENGTHEN OUR PROMOTION ASPIRATIONS WITH A WIN. Confidence is high after Tuesday’s win over Bristol Rovers, a side who had been unbeaten on the road in the past three months. It was a very controlled performance set up by a strong start, with two early goals from Copps giving the lads some real belief which they built on for the whole 90 minutes. We hadn’t picked up quite as many points as we’d have liked in the few games preceding Tuesday, but with the exception of Luton we were never really outclassed in games. Heads never dropped at the training ground, though, and we can take some real belief into the seven remaining league games and, hopefully, three more in the play-offs.
I’ve been able to work with the board on contracts over the course of the season as we’ve methodically planned what we want to do in order to build for next season while also giving us the best chance of promotion this time round. It is also great to see Doncaster Rovers Belles joining the Club Doncaster family. The Belles are one of the most famous names in women’s football and it seems a natural fit to build on the links already there. I look forward to seeing them thrive alongside us. Enjoy the game.
I was pleased to secure Ian Lawlor to a new contract this week. He was unlucky with the timing of his injury as he had been in good form, but this is just the latest step in building a long-term future for this football club.

"THIS WAS ALSO AN IMPORTANT WEEK FOR US OFF THE PITCH AT CLUB DONCASTER, AS WE CONFIRMED AN AGREEMENT FOR DONCASTER ROVERS BELLES TO FORMALLY JOIN THE ORGANISATION"
GAVIN BALDWIN GOOD AFTERNOON AND WELCOME BACK TO THE KEEPMOAT STADIUM FOR THE VISIT OF WALSALL. I’D LIKE TO WELCOME THE SUPPORTERS, OWNERS, PLAYERS AND STAFF OF THE SADDLERS WHO HAVE MADE THE TRIP UP TODAY. We head into the game in a very positive mood after Tuesday’s win over Bristol Rovers, which gives us something to really build on as we head into the final seven games of the regular season. It was a really impressive performance from the team, and the best possible reaction from the game at Luton - we have to hold our hands up and say the Hatters are probably the best side in the division, while we came back out and showed we believe we’re among the top six. Stick with us, and we’ll have a right good go at securing a top six finish and then give everything we’ve got in the play-offs. This was also an important week for us off the pitch at Club Doncaster, as we confirmed an agreement for Doncaster Rovers Belles to formally join the organisation.
us to build on a working relationship which is already there with them training on our pitches and having an office at the Keepmoat Stadium. We are looking forward to celebrating their golden anniversary and already have some exciting plans once they join the family in May. We will be sharing more in the near future. On the Rovers front we’ve also been able to confirm a new contract for goalkeeper Ian Lawlor. The board have been very thorough in their long-term planning and, in partnership with the footballing staff, have been able to build so the manager can go into next season with his team fully in place. Enjoy the game.
They are one of the most successful women’s football teams in England and are an excellent addition to the Club Doncaster family. The formal partnership will allow

Y M M TO ROWE AFTER BEING NAMED AS ROVERS CAPTAIN AT THE START OF THIS SEASON, TOMMY ROWE IMMEDIATELY SET HIS SIGHTS ON A PROMOTION PUSH IN SKY BET LEAGUE ONE. Although injury prevented him from playing as much of a part in the first-half of the season as he would have liked, he has been a mainstay in the starting XI in recent weeks as Rovers have looked to maintain their play-off push. “It’s been a slow season in terms of what I’m used to and what the fans expect from me, it’s something I’ve adapted to and now I’m enjoying a run of games,” he says. “With the injuries we’ve had in key positions, I had to keep myself fit and be ready for when the manager called on me. “It was always the case around Christmas time when the squad is tested, it’s such a long season and you’re bound to pick up injuries. “The boys who are out injured will be back towards the final few games, so it’s down to the lads that are in there now to give themselves a chance of achieving something really special at this club.”

After a tough run of results at the start of March, Rovers got back to winning ways with a 4-1 hammering of Bristol Rovers at the Keepmoat Stadium on Tuesday night. Rowe felt that result showed the character within the group, who didn’t let the defeat at Luton last weekend affect them too much. “We’ve really come together as a group over the past week or so and looked for areas where we can improve between now and the end of the season,” he says. “The meetings we have are important because we can see where we went wrong, the staff and players can chat to each other and find solutions. “We’ve lost Ben Whiteman and Herbie Kane to injury which is a blow, but those things can’t affect us as a team because it’s part of football. “When important players are missing it’s important that other members of the squad step up when they are needed.” In football all teams look to make their home ground as much of a fortress as possible, and Rovers are no exception to that. Unbeaten on their own turf since a narrow loss to Sunderland in October, the captain says the form at home has been one of the catalysts to success this season.
10
ISSUE 25 v WALSALL
“We know how strong we can be at home, we’ve had a lot of good results here and when we’ve needed a performance we’ve found one,” says Rowe. “Collectively we know what we’re capable of, it’s about taking that onto the pitch and performing to a level which we know we can do. “When we play well and we get it right we can be a very good side which I think the fans would agree with based on what they’ve seen this season. “The players won’t lose any confidence even when we lose games, with a young team you usually find they can bounce back quite quickly.
"COLLECTIVELY WE KNOW WHAT WE’RE CAPABLE OF, IT’S ABOUT TAKING THAT ONTO THE PITCH AND PERFORMING"
“Any successful team have to be good on their own patch, the fact we haven’t lost since October at home shows how strong we are.” Throughout the campaign Rovers have had hurdles to jump over, whether that be a tough run of games or injuries to key players. One thing that has never been questioned though is the togetherness in the group, with a determination to get on with things and be successful as a unit. “Over the period of time I’ve been here the way we react to disappointments is something we’ve added to our identity,” Rowe says. “From day to day we speak quite openly if there are any issues, even if you don’t have your best game then you just have to get on with things. “We know that we’re all pulling in the same direction, as long as we keep our energy levels high the performance usually follows. “We’ve had injuries throughout the squad which meant we’ve had to pull together, we’re well aware that teams can start catching you up if you don’t pick up results. “After that Luton game the lads came in a couple of days later completely focused which says a lot about our character. “The management staff and the more senior players can take care of the things in the media, we’ve been there and done it before.”
"IT’S DOWN TO THE LADS THAT ARE IN THERE NOW TO GIVE THEMSELVES A CHANCE OF ACHIEVING SOMETHING REALLY SPECIAL AT THIS CLUB" With seven games of the regular season to go heading into this afternoon’s game with relegation threatened Walsall, Grant McCann’s side have their destiny well and truly in their own hands. That is something the whole squad should be excited about according to Rowe, who along with other players in the squad has the experience of winning promotion from this level earlier in his career. Although performances may not always be up to scratch at this stage of the season, having the ability to grind results out is a key quality for any good team to have. “Sometimes you go into games knowing you might not play so well, but as a tight-knit group it’s about grinding it out and picking up results,” adds Rowe. “Any team needs to be able to win games in different ways, we’ve got players capable of turning a game on its head. “It’s a cliché in football but all we’re focused on is one game at a time, we will stay level headed and tick games off as they go by. “Drawing games doesn’t help at this stage of the season, sometimes you can be better off winning one and losing one rather than drawing two in a row. “It’s an exciting time for all the players involved now, we want to cement our place in the play-offs and give ourselves a real go at it. “Getting that momentum towards the back end of a season is key, it’s always the team going into the playoffs in good form that give themselves the best chance.”

FOUR TO WALSALL
LIAM ROBERTS TOP STOPPER
01
The young stopper has come up through the youth ranks with his hometown club and after biding his time on the side lines, he has now cemented his place as the Saddlers’ number one this term. Much of his early professional career saw Roberts sent away from the Banks’s Stadium on loan, spending time with Rushall Olympic, Southport and Gresley amongst others before finally making his Saddlers debut in February 2016 against Millwall. After spending the 2016/17 season at Chester, Roberts returned to the West Midlands and played 24 games in League One last season. This campaign has been even more successful for the 23-year-old, making over 40 appearances in all competitions so far.
JOE EDWARDS MIDFIELD MAESTRO
02
The midfielder is a fan favourite at the Banks’s Stadium, and he is now in his third season with the Saddlers after joining from Colchester United. Edwards began his career with Aston Villa and Bristol City, before his move to Yeovil Town in 2012, initially on loan from the Robins, with the switch being made a permanent one in January 2013. That same season would see him help the Glovers to promotion to the Championship for the first time in the club’s history via the League One play-offs. He would go on to take the captain’s armband for the 2014/15 season, wearing it for the first time against Rovers on the opening day of that season at Huish Park. After a season with Colchester, Edwards made his move to Walsall, becoming a virtual ever-present in his debut season in the West Midlands, missing just three league games. Edwards was a thorn in Rovers’ side in the meeting between the two sides at the Banks’s Stadium last season, scoring a quick-fire double to set up a 4-2 win for the Saddlers in February last year.

O WATCH LUKE LEAHY DEFENSIVE ROCK
03
The 26-year-old is a very versatile figure within the Saddlers’ squad, being comfortable in any position across both defence and midfield, but he is right at home in the left-back position. After spending time with Rugby Town, Leahy was picked up by Scottish side Falkirk in 2012, and he went on to spend five years with the Bairns. He made over 150 appearances for the Scottish Championship side, helping them to the Scottish Cup final in 2015, though they ultimately lost out to Inverness Caledonian Thistle at Hampden Park. Leahy joined the Saddlers ahead of the start of last season, making his debut against Bury on the opening day of the season, before scoring his first goal for the club in a 1-1 draw away at Portsmouth later on in August.
ANDY COOK DEADLY STRIKER
09
The striker joined the Saddlers at the beginning of the season after helping Tranmere Rovers return to the EFL after a three-year absence. Cook began his career with Carlisle United, though failed to make a single league appearance and instead spent time on loan at fellow Cumbrian sides Workington and Barrow, with the latter of those switches being made permanent in 2011. He enjoyed two permanent spells with Barrow, with time at Grimsby Town being sandwiched in between playing for the Bluebirds. He fired Barrow to the National League North title in 2015, and then after another successful season at Holker Street, Cook would join Tranmere in 2016. Last season saw Cook win the Golden Boot and a place in the National League Team of the Year following 26 league goals as he helped Tranmere back to the EFL. His last appearance in a Tranmere shirt came in their play-off final win at Wembley Stadium, in which he scored the opening goal in a 2-1 win over Boreham Wood.

OUR CURRENT CENTRAL DEFENSIVE PAIRING PROVIDES US WITH THE LINKS BETWEEN ROVERS AND THE SADDLERS, WITH A RECENT LOAN MOVE SEEING THE PAIR COME FULL CIRCLE AT THE KEEPMOAT STADIUM. Current Rovers’ club captain ANDY BUTLER is the first connection between the two sides, having made his move to the Keepmoat Stadium in 2014, initially on loan from Sheffield United, before his move was made a permanent one the following January. It would be a short trip down the M180 where Butler would begin his professional career, coming up through the ranks at Scunthorpe United before making his senior debut for the Iron in a 1-1 draw against Leyton Orient in 2003. Ironically, his first ever goal for Scunthorpe came in a 2-2 draw against Rovers at Glanford Park in the 2003/04 season. The following year he would score 10 goals as he helped the Iron to promotion from League Two, finishing second in the league. After another promotion with the Iron, this time to the Championship, Butler joined then-League One side Huddersfield Town in July 2008, however, with opportunities limited in West Yorkshire, he instead joined Blackpool on a temporary basis in January 2010 until the end of the season. Butler was a part of the Seasiders’ team that won promotion to the Premier League via the Championship play-offs, though he wasn’t in the match day squad for the game at Wembley Stadium. He left Huddersfield permanently that summer, going on to join Walsall in November of the same year after a short spell without a club. Butler would go on to become a massive fan favourite at the Banks’s Stadium, enjoying four years in total in the West Midlands, quickly going on to become the Saddlers’ skipper. He won both the Player of the Year award and the Players’ Player award at the end of his first season and was rewarded with a contract extension, which would last until the summer of 2013, and was again extended for a further year. In the summer of 2014, Butler made his move back to South Yorkshire, signing for Sheffield United, though after just one appearance he was loaned back to the Saddlers for a month. He joined Rovers on loan the following month, and it was one that was made permanent in January 2015 on a two-and-a-half-year deal. He was a part of the Rovers side that won promotion back to League One at the first attempt in 2017, also winning the League Two PFA Community Player of the Year to cap off a brilliant 2016/17 season.
16
ISSUE 25 v WALSALL
During much of his time with the Saddlers, Butler would also go on to forge a strong partnership with the man currently alongside him at the heart of the Rovers defence, with PAUL DOWNING now on loan at the Keepmoat Stadium. Downing began his career with West Bromwich Albion, though it would be on a loan spell with Hereford United where he would make his first professional appearance. He made the very short journey across the West Midlands to join up with Walsall in 2012, going on to forge his partnership with Butler, making 183 appearances for the Saddlers over a four-year spell. Following his departure from the Banks’s Stadium, Downing joined Milton Keynes in 2016, though after just one season at Stadium:MK, he joined Blackburn Rovers, initially on loan before a permanent deal was struck in January last year. After helping Blackburn to automatic promotion from League One at the first attempt last season, which incidentally was achieved at the Keepmoat Stadium, Downing played just four times in the first half of the season. He linked up with Butler once again here in DN4 in search of regular football, so far not putting a foot out of place with some solid performances at the heart of the Rovers defence, being an ever-present since his arrival at the end of January. MEMORABLE MATCH WALSALL
AUGUST 18 2012 Rovers hit the ground running as they made a winning return to League One on the opening day of the season with a 3-0 victory away to Walsall back in August 2012. Rovers were looking to get off to a good start following a dismal previous campaign that saw them relegated from the Championship, languishing at the bottom of the table pretty much throughout the whole of the second half of the campaign, but it wouldn’t take long for them to give the fans something to shout about as they took the lead inside five minutes in the West Midlands. Tommy Spurr’s ball over the top was knocked down by Chris Brown into the path of his strike partner Billy Paynter, with the forward playing the ball back across goal to Brown who got in ahead of a struggling Saddlers defender to tap into the corner and hand Rovers an early advantage at the Banks’s Stadium. Paynter could’ve doubled the lead with a goal himself not long after, connecting with a Paul Quinn cross from the right, only to see his header go narrowly wide of the post. On the stroke of half time however, a piece of brilliance from another Rovers new boy would see them eventually double their lead in stunning fashion, via the right boot of winger David Cotterill.
He picked up the ball on the halfway line, taking a touch to set himself before firing a shot over David Grof, with the Saddlers keeper left stranded and only able to see the ball sail over him and under his crossbar, with Cotterill scoring a goal of the season contender on the opening afternoon of what would be a dramatic campaign for Rovers. 10 minutes after the interval, Rovers would have all three points sealed up, as Kyle Bennett added another to the early list of goal of the season contenders, as
he cut inside onto his right foot, curling into the far corner from the corner of the area to add gloss to the scoreline and ensure that Rovers return to the third tier would start successfully. Rovers would have one last chance to score inside the final 10 minutes of the game, with Cotterill and Brown linking up, however Grof got across well to claim the towering striker’s header and prevent any further embarrassment for the home side, but it would be a great start for Rovers in their League One return.
WHAT HAPPENED NEXT? Rovers would go on to make their stay in League One a short one, winning the title in dramatic fashion on the final day, with James Coppinger’s 95th minute goal sealing top spot following Marcello Trotta’s penalty miss less than 20 seconds before. Before that, Rovers would lose just six games in the first half of the campaign, sitting firmly in the play-offs come the turn of the year, with their good form seeing manager Dean Saunders move to Wolves, and Brian Flynn and Rob Jones took charge for the remainder of the season. Rovers wouldn’t fall out of the top six from November onwards, and spent 11 of the final 12 games top of the table, jumping back from second to first on the final day. Walsall on the other hand just missed out on the play-offs at the end of the season despite a great run of form late on for the Saddlers, captained by current Rovers club captain, Andy Butler. They finished in ninth place, just six points off the play-off places, but they would finish in the top six three seasons later, finishing third in League One, however they were defeated by Barnsley in the two-legged semi-final.

THE
NUMBERS GAME IT IS FAIR TO SAY THAT DONCASTER ROVERS’ FIRST TWO NO. 21S DID NOT HAVE THE SAME IMPACT AS THE MAN WHO FOLLOWED THEM. DANIEL BENT (2002) AND LOANEE TYRONE THOMPSON (2003) MADE ONLY THREE FIRST TEAM APPEARANCES BETWEEN THEM. IN THE SUMMER OF 2003 ROVERS SIGNED THE MAN WHO HAD BEEN PROMOTION RIVALS YEOVIL TOWN’S PLAYER OF THE SEASON AS THEY WON THE CONFERENCE TITLE FOR 2002-03. MICHAEL MCINDOE (2003-06) HAD PUT IN SOME BRILLIANT PERFORMANCES ON THE LEFT OF MIDFIELD FOR THE GLOVERS, AND HIS SUPERB DISPLAY AT BELLE VUE IN APRIL 2003 AS YEOVIL CLINCHED PROMOTION HAD NOT GONE UNNOTICED. Both teams were now in Division Three, but it was Rovers, inspired by McIndoe, who enjoyed the better season, winning the title at the first time of asking. He appeared in all but one of Rovers league games, scoring ten goals and contributing many assists. His form was so good that he earned a call-up to Scotland’s B Team. He was voted PFA Player of the Season for Division Three and made the same organisation’s Team of 2003-04. He continued to perform at the same consistent level in 2004-05 as Rovers consolidated in the renamed League One. In 2005-06 he was a key member of the side that reached the Quarter-finals of the League Cup, scoring Rovers’ opening goal in an ultimately heart-breaking night against Arsenal as Rovers conceded a last gasp equaliser and then lost on penalties. Unfortunately his relationship with manager Dave Penney had become difficult and he opted to join Derby County on loan in March 2006 before moving permanently to Barnsley before the following season. His record for Rovers of 142 appearances and 35 goals marks him down as one of the modern greats. The No. 21 shirt passed through MICHELE DI PIEDI (2006) and Sheffield Wednesday loanee PETER GILBERT (2007) before being handed to Doncaster-born defender SAM HIRD (2007-12). Once a Rovers matchday mascot, Hird had been in Leeds United’s youth system before joining Rovers, initially on loan, in February 2007. He was regarded as a reserve defender but after injuries to Graeme Lee, Adam Lockwood and Steve Roberts he found himself as centre-back partner to Matt Mills at the business end of the 2007-08 season. Hird gave assured performances in all the play-off games, including the Wembley final as Rovers defeated his former club 1-0 to earn promotion to the Championship. Over the next four seasons he was a regular performer at centre-back, having a variety of partners after
Mills left for Reading in 2009. He went on to record 164 first-team appearances for Rovers and then joined Chesterfield, for whom he played over 200 League games. Northern Ireland international SAMMY CLINGAN (2012) and the much-travelled LEE FOWLER (2013) shared the No. 21 shirt during Rovers League One championship season of 2012-13, though neither made much impact. Midfielder MARC DE VAL FERNANDEZ (2013-15) had been through Real Madrid’s youth system and was much admired by Rovers manager Paul Dickov, but he suffered a bad injury in a pre-season game and as a result made only five appearances in 2013-14. He fared little better the following season and returned to Spain early in 2015. The No. 21 shirt passed to young striker LIAM MANDEVILLE (2015-16) although he made much more of an impact the following season by which time he had taken up the No. 19. Another youngster, JOE PUGH (2016-17), son of former Rovers winger Daral, made only one first team appearance before being released. A youth team contemporary of both, WILL LONGBOTTOM (2017-date) is the current No. 21 and he will be hoping for better fortune after being hampered by injuries. JOHN COYLE

SAFETY Three points is not the only priority today. Making sure everyone goes home safe is the most important result. Over recent months we have been working closely with the police and the EFL to review security at the Keepmoat Stadium. Now we are asking you to do your bit. It is vital that everyone - players, staff and supporters - remains vigilant and reports any concerns to stewards or police. Attacks might be rare, and the chance of you being caught up in one unlikely, but the message is ACT #ActionCountersTerrorism. Rovers safety officer Sam Ramsden said:
AD-105x148-Football Foundation.indd 1
"We want everyone to enjoy today’s game at the Keepmoat Stadium but if you see anything that causes you concern, tell a steward or staff member. Please do not worry that you might be wasting our time. "The stewards are here to help keep us all safe so please be patient and cooperate with their instructions. When it comes to security it has to be a team effort and we are all players." Here's a quick reminder of what you can do to help keep yourself and others safe: • Arrive early, allowing more time for security checks • Minimise what you carry, fewer bag searches will speed up entry to the ground
• Be vigilant at all times and if you see anything suspicious, tell a steward right away • If you see anything that could pose an immediate threat to safety, call 999 • In an emergency, listen to the public address instructions and follow them • If told to evacuate, do so immediately, do not wait around to film events on your mobile • Move right away from the stadium as quickly as possible for your safety and to allow clear access for any emergency vehicles • Once you are safe, follow the local police force on Twitter for updates To find out more, visit gov.uk/ACT or @TerrorismPolice

SUPPORTER LIAISON OFFICER DEAN MEDCALF GOOD AFTERNOON LADIES AND GENTLEMEN AND A WARM WELCOME BACK TO THE KEEPMOAT STADIUM, AND A VERY WARM WELCOME TO ALL THE VISITING FANS FROM WALSALL.
I would like to thank all the Rovers fans who made the recent trips to Blackpool and Luton, I hope you all had a safe journey. I would like to discuss our recent FA Cup fifth-round match against Crystal Palace and share with you some of the feedback that myself and the club received from the visiting fans. As many of you may know, before and after each game, I communicate with the away clubs SLO and with the away fans on social media, forums and via email. Following all our home games, I ask the away fans for feedback on their experience visiting the Keepmoat Stadium and ask for any suggestions they may have on how the club could improve the match day experience for away fans. The feedback I received was
fantastic: all of the people I communicated with could not speak highly enough about their visit. A lot of the Palace fans had high praise for the Belle Vue Bar and about the warm welcome they received from the Rovers fans that were in there. The Rovers stewards were also praised for how welcome they made the Palace fans feel and how friendly and helpful they were throughout the visit. The atmosphere created by the Rovers fans was highly commended by the visiting fans and they were also very impressed with the organisation of the display in the Black Bank. On the football side, the Palace fans applauded the Rovers display on the pitch and they admired our style of play, with many of them
saying that if we continued to perform as well as we did that day then they would expect us to be up there at the end of the season. Many also said that they would be cheering on the Rovers and they would be supporting us in our push for the play-offs and wished us all the best for the rest of the season. As always I hope you all enjoy today’s game, if you have any questions then please contact me on the usual SLO social media accounts, @SLO_DRFC on twitter, DRFC SLO on Facebook or you can email me at dean.medcalf@ clubdoncaster.co.uk. SUPPORTERS CLUB PAUL MAYFIELD
A big warm welcome to our friends from Walsall - to the supporters, players, management and directors I hope they have a great day at the Keepmoat Stadium today, besides the result of course. Hope they manage to sample the Keepmoat experience, including face painting and a chance to take penalties in the away stand for the kids, and had time to pop into the Belle Vue Bar, it was sad to see the Saddlers bar closed at the Bescot, as we were always made welcome in there. We hope they have had a good trip up here, and wish them a safe trip home. We are now getting to the business end of the season, with games coming thick and fast, we need all the fans to get behind the team and roar us over the line, It looks like the Coventry game, at home on the final day of the season, could be a very important clash for us. It is good to see the club being again generous with the 2019/20 Season Memberships that have just been launched with easy options to pay, and gifts for the fans who buy early, Remember you can also save up for that Season Membership with the Supporters Club savings scheme, call in at the Supporters Club shop in the Club Doncaster Academy for more details.

VIKING SUPPORTERS CO-OPERATIVE Football is the national game, and football supporters are the lifeblood of the game. While many privately owned football clubs are well run, ours included, there are numerous examples over the years where this model of ownership has failed the supporters of that club, and has led to a number of clubs becoming either partly or fully owned by those supporters. The Minister Of Sport set up the Expert Working Group with the intention of looking at ways to improve engagement and dialogue between clubs and fans, and therefore to improve transparency and trust. The detailed recommendations from the EWG led to the government instructing the EFL and the Premier League to enter into structured dialogue with those supporters, and especially with the supporters trust at that club. As you may be aware the club hold two Meet The Owners events each year which meet the criteria set down by the EFL. On top of that the club have a Supporters Board which meets on a regular basis during the season to discuss a very broad range of topics. Suffice to say that DRFC have not only met the requirements but have exceeded them in both frequency and content, and that is something we can once again be proud of. Martin O'Hara

getting bigger and better. It is always a privilege to help out and get to see so many people take part in such a worthwhile project.
Participants shed a total of 58kg throughout the eight-week course, which looks at improving both physical and mental wellbeing. This has now taken the total weight loss of men on Fit Rovers since 2017 to more than 105 stone.
“Fit Rovers continues to give people the chance to improve their wellbeing and fitness, I’m glad to be involved in such an amazing culture.“
They also lost 122cm from their combined waist circumference and drastically improved their physical activity, which saw an increase of two hours per individual doing weekly physical activity. The participants were welcomed onto the programme by Rovers player Matty Blair, the Fit Rovers ambassador for 2018/19, eight weeks ago and he continues to relish in his role with the Foundation. He said: “The programme keeps

Along with fantastic results, the participants from course 11 attended a combined total of 156 sessions throughout the eight weeks. Course facilitator Nick Gillott said: “This brought a conclusion to another successful Fit Rovers course. Course 11 made huge strides towards their start-of-course goals, losing some considerable weight along the way. “Hopefully these guys continue their journeys within the project by transitioning over onto the Vets sessions.”
Fit Rovers is Club Doncaster Foundation’s pioneering adult fitness course based at the Keepmoat Stadium, aimed at men over the age of 30, free of charge. Unlike big fitness/weight-loss chains that charge you for public weigh-ins and give very little guidance, information at Fit Rovers is completely confidential meaning you can keep a track of exactly how you’re doing on a one-to-one basis with the dedicated staff team. One session a week for eight weeks is included in the course, as well as incentives such as sports wear, Doncaster Rovers player visits and money off match shirts. For more information on how to book onto the next free Fit Rovers course, which is scheduled to run at the end of March, contact the team on 01302 764663 or alternatively at fitrovers@ clubdoncasterfoundation.co.uk.

Twelve EFL Sky Bet League One football clubs from across the North of England took part in the EFL Kids Cup regional finals on Tuesday March 12, with Leighswood Primary School, representing Walsall FC, booking their place in the final at Wembley Stadium. The six-a-side tournament, which took place at the Keepmoat Stadium, featured clubs from across the north of England, including the likes of Sunderland, Burton Albion, Rochdale and Shrewsbury Town. Norton Junior School represented Rovers after winning the area finals back in February. All the teams competed in a group stage phase, facing each team once, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the semi-finals. A competitive group stage, which saw some impressive
performances all around, saw Accrington Stanley and Walsall advance to the semi-finals from group A, while Fleetwood Town and Bradford City advanced from group B. Norton put in a valiant effort, registering two wins, two draws and one defeat, narrowly missing out on a semi-final spot by a point. The semi-finals were filled with drama, with Fleetwood Town leaving it late to secure a 1-0 win over Accrington Stanley to book their spot in the final thanks to a long range effort. An intense 0-0 draw between Walsall and Bradford City in the second semifinal meant a penalty shootout had to separate the two sides, with Walsall coming out on top in a 3-2 shootout win. Walsall and Fleetwood Town, who were the tournaments’ top goalscorers, played out an entertaining final. After an early onslaught from Fleetwood,
Walsall began to grow into the game, taking the lead, before doubling their advantage late on. Walsall will now play in the Kids Cup final at Wembley Stadium before the Sky Bet League One play-off final on May 26. Well done to all the teams that took part, and best of luck to Leighswood Primary School on your trip to Wembley. The EFL Kids Cup is a national tournament for junior footballers, which offers children a once in a lifetime opportunity to play at Wembley Stadium. The Cup involves more than 16,000 children and creates one of the country’s largest national football competitions, which culminates in exciting finals at Wembley Stadium in front of thousands of fans before a major national final, as schoolchildren live out their dream.
