Good afternoon, and welcome back to the Keepmoat Stadium. I would like to welcome Richie Wellens, as well as the supporters, players, staff and owners of Oldham Athletic. Richie made a real contribution to this club and I know he is well thought of by supporters, but we are on the back of a couple of good wins at home and can go into the game with some real conifdence. We were very unlucky to come away from Oxford United without any points last weekend. We played well as a team and Ian Lawlor pulled off a great penalty save.
Your support last week was, as always, brilliant and does not go unnoticed by the players or staff. That backing from the stands has been a recurring theme throughout my time at the club, and you can play a part as we look to have a good festive period which can set us up for 2018. I would like to wish you all a very merry Christmas,. Enjoy the game.
The level of performances recently have been really good, we are creating chances and there is a lot to be positive about as we head into Christmas. Everyone is working hard to try and find that consistency, and if we can maintain this level of performance then we will win games.

Good afternoon, and welcome to the Keepmoat Stadium for today’s visit of Oldham Athletic. I’d like to welcome the owners, supporters, players and staff who have made the trip down the M62. Our last outing at the Keepmoat Stadium saw one of our most impressive performances of the season, as we dismantled Scunthorpe United to reach the third round of the FA Cup.
a lot of people purchase as Christmas presents - check out the advert later in the programme. Earlier this week a number of players from both Rovers and the Dons went down to Doncaster Royal Infirmary to hand out presents to youngsters in the Children’s Ward.
This is an annual tradition at Club Doncaster dating back more than a decade now. We feel we are making real progress as a club, with the growth coming through evolution rather than revolution. And that is the kind of change which is sustainable. We were all frustrated by the nature of last weekend’s loss at Oxford, conceding in the sixth minute of stoppage time, but it is encouraging that supporters who were there have been positive about the level of performance from the lads. In the build-up to Christmas we have been putting out offers on a daily basis via clubdoncasterchristmas.co.uk - keep checking the website until Christmas Day itself to see what bargains you can pick up, possibly even a last-minute present!
I would like to pay tribute to my staff for collecting a record amount of money to buy the presents. We also had a generous donation from out kit partners FBT meaning we were able to hand out more than 100 gifts. Our next home game is on Boxing Day, so I would like to wish every Rovers fan a very merry Christmas and look forward to seeing you all at our home games over the festive period.
We’ve been pleased with the initial sales for the Steps and A-ha concerts we are hosting in June. Again, we’ve seen

RODNEY KONGOLO Rodney Kongolo is set for his first taste of the busy Christmas schedule that comes part and parcel of playing in the EFL. Rovers face four games in less than 10 days over the festive period, with Kongolo preparing himself for the aches and pains that come with the territory of being a professional footballer.
so we know we’ll be in a good position. “I’ve enjoyed my loan spell, I’ve played a lot of games so that’s been the most pleasing thing for me and that’s why I know I can handle playing lots of games in a short space of time.” The Dutch midfielder is planning on making the most of some quality time with his family, with visits few and far between during his stay in South Yorkshire.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS away from football and be around your family at Christmas time, we can relax inbetween games but then we’ll be ready once they come around. “I don’t get to see them too often so it will be nice for me to see my family, they come to games but it will be good to spend a full day with them.” At such a family orientated time of year, Kongolo says the family feel around Cantley Park helped him to settle in quickly in unfamiliar surroundings. “I’d like to finish the season off here as I’ve had a really good few months with the club and have got to know a lot of really good people,” he says. “The place is really welcoming and the fans are with us all the time, it’s a close knit club and like a family which is what makes it so enjoyable. “The manager has been good for me and talks to me a lot about areas in my game that I can improve, I’m learning a lot from his style.” Into the last few games of his initial sixmonth-loan from Manchester City, the 19-year-old is keen to finish what he has started at the Keepmoat Stadium and remain there until the end of the season. He believes settling into the group so quickly is one of the main reasons for him wanting to stay, as well as striking up a friendship with fellow summer recruit Issam Ben Khemis.

“Myself and Issam get on really well, we came here at the same time so that made it easier to get along, we speak the same language so we’re helping each other,” he says. “My English is slightly better than his so I’ve been helping him to understand things both on and off the pitch, he is improving every day. “The pace of the game was really tough to get used to at first, the players that have been in this league for a long time make it look so easy.” The midfielder got a regular run in the Rovers side after performing well in the Carabao Cup third round tie against Arsenal, and has performed in different roles throughout the campaign. “It’s important to be able to play in different positions and have the ability to adapt, the manager likes players to be flexible in where they can play,” he says. “I’ve been getting in good positions in the past few weeks but haven’t managed to get my first league goal just yet, it’s frustrating but as long as I’m helping the team that’s all that counts. “I think I improved a lot after the Arsenal game, it was a good experience for me playing against such a good team and from that point I’ve played well. “In the first few games I was taking tackles that I wasn’t used to before, but
the more you play you learn how to deal with it. “It gave me confidence that I could cut it in league football and I took that into the following games, it made me want to keep going and keep producing good performances.”
To continue the interview with the midfielder we asked him a few short fire questions about more quirky topics

Being on loan from Manchester City, Kongolo has one eye on the Premier League title race, and has been impressed with the way his parent club have performed so far this season. Two managers who are so passionate to win games of football is something which the Dutchman has noticed as a key similarity between Pep Guardiola and Darren Ferguson.
OR
“They’re doing really well and keep on winning, they’re getting late goals and keep grinding teams down,” he adds. “Guardiola is good to work under, he doesn’t say a lot to individuals but he is a passionate coach and knows how he wants the team to play. “I would say the main thing in common between him and Darren Ferguson is that they both have so much passion for football and want to win every game they’re involved in. “We’re always in touch with Manchester City and they’re regularly checking how I’m getting on, the analyst sends me my clips and suggests areas to improve.”

MY WEEK: YOUTH TEAM PLAYER Rovers’ youth team took on Club Doncaster Foundation’s NCS course. This is the diary of their week building up to their game v Burton Albion
FRIDAY The next activity on our NCS journey wasn’t until 2.00pm, so on Friday morning we followed our normal routine and got to the training ground early ready to put some graft in. After training, we were back at the Keepmoat Stadium ready to be greeted by athletes from the Dame Kelly Holmes Trust. We spent the afternoon with them as part of our NCS programme and the workshops were so good. They gave us problemsolving tasks and we had to work together to figure them out. In between workshops, they also told their story of how they became a professional athlete in their respective sport and how they overcame problems throughout their career, such as injury. Their stories were so inspirational and really gave us great advice that we can apply to our own careers in football. It’s also so great to know how many opportunities are out there if you work hard.
MONDAY This week was a little different to our normal week as we were lucky enough to be heading to the Peak District on the National Citizen Service programme, hosted by Club Doncaster Foundation. We got to the Keepmoat Stadium at lunchtime, ready to depart on our journey to Ravenstor in the Peaks. We got there in good time and straight away had loads of team building activities out on the site to do before dinner. The rest of the night was spent playing Fifa and pool. TUESDAY We woke up at around 8am and had breakfast in the hostel before meeting our instructor for the day. By 9.30am, we were on route for a nine-mile mountain hike. At first we were a little apprehensive with the thought of it but the views were amazing and it was really good to challenge ourselves. At stop offs during the hike we had the chance to abseil off a bridge and rock climb, which were amazing experiences and a few of us even conquered our fear of heights, so it felt great to complete the activities. After the hike, we headed back to the hostel to get a shower and chill out before dinner. We watched the Manchester United game and had team bonding games into the evening. WEDNESDAY Our activity was based in Matlock, which was a fair drive from the hostel, so we had an earlier start but once we got there it was so worth it. We went caving in the
22
morning and spent two hours exploring the most extraordinary caves. A lot of us had never caved before, so it was a great experience and a real thrill as we negotiated through tight spaces and pools of water. After lunch, we then went canoeing in the afternoon. About half way round the lake, we decided to play a game, which resulted in us all falling in the water! We were in stitches laughing but it was freezing so we were grateful
when we got back to the hostel to a warm fire and dinner ready. . THURSDAY This was our last day on the away residential, so after breakfast and a few team-building activities we set off back to Doncaster so that we wouldn’t hit traffic. On the way back we were all discussing what to expect in the next two phases of the programme.
SATURDAY We had officially completed week one of our NCS journey by the end of play on Friday, so on Saturday we were back to the normal routine and had a job to do at St George’s Park against Burton. We comfortably won the game after scoring three goals in five second-half minutes, and Kane Bingley even bagged a bicycle kick. The week away really helped our team strengthen relationships and we think that showed on the pitch: we’re now five games undefeated so hopefully we can continue to build this strong form. Next week we’ll be doing the next phase of NCS: we can’t wait.

As we get close to the festive period all our Academy staff have been busy preparing and delivering mid-season progress reviews for all our academy players, from the Under 9s up to the Under 18s. These reviews cover development in the technical, tactical, psychological and social areas of the game. This rounded view of their development is very important to us and it is vital we spend the time to reflect upon this. In addition, our head of education, Tony Morton, ensures we have an up to date picture of their academic progress which offers us opportunities to support in this area. The families of our young players show outstanding commitment to the development of the youngsters and by involving them in discussions regarding the progress being made and where improvement is required the player then
gets a level of consistency in the support being given that is so important. I would like to take the opportunity of wishing all our Academy staff and their families a very happy Christmas. They dedicate themselves to the development of our young players and deserve so much credit for the work they put in. The same applies to all our young players and their families – I hope they enjoy a welldeserved break. The staff across the football club and Club Doncaster, as always, provide so much support and I hope they all have a great Christmas. Finally, I would like to wish all the supporters a very happy Christmas. Thank you for your continued support, it is very much appreciated by everyone.
Paul Stancliffe felt his side looked bright throughout the 3-1 win at Burton Albion. Rovers turned on the style in the second period with Cody Prior, Jordan Tucker and Kane Bingley scoring in a five-minute burst which blew the young Brewers away. Stancliffe said: “I’m very pleased with the result. The link-up play with the strikers, the clever passing was really good, we also looked bright and switched on. The final ball in the final third is what did let them down in the first-half. The composure did disappear: they knew what they wanted to do but they got a little bit giddy. In the second half we set off on the right foot and they got the three deserved goals.” Stancliffe was particularly pleased to see goals scored by players whose primary roles are defensive. He added: “It’s pleasing that we got goals from all over the pitch. It’s something we do look at it’s something that we try and do in training, certainly with the wing-backs as we did here. We had one or two set-plays too that on another day we might have had a reward out of.”

TEN YEARS AGO: DONCASTER ROVERS IN SEASON 2007-08. Part 11 loan for the rest of the season, and he was included in the squad for Saturday’s game, a match long anticipated by Rovers fans since the fixtures were published. Rovers travelled to Elland Road for their first League meeting with Leeds United since 1955.
Having won their previous three games, Rovers travelled to Walsall on New Year’s Day 2008 in good spirits. Manager Sean O’Driscoll made one change, James Hayter replacing Mark McCammon who dropped to the bench. Walsall were on an unbeaten run of 14 games so promised to be tricky opponents and so it proved in a tight first half. J. J. Price had a goal ruled out for offside after 21 minutes and then Walsall’s Sonko missed a good chance to put the home side ahead.
Rovers were unchanged with Mills gaining a seat on the bench. In front of a crowd of 31,402 it was Rovers who dominated the early exchanges, playing some neat passing football and frustrating their opponents.
Rovers took the lead on the stroke of half time when Stephen Roberts fed Hayter.
It came as no surprise when Rovers took the lead after 21 minutes.

Donny Dog has paid a visit to Lakeside Village to find out if he’s been naughty or nice this year – he placed gis paw on the special elf scanner at the centre and jumped for joy when he found out he was on Santa’s nice list. With Christmas just around the corner Lakeside Village has lots of fun for families to take part in, including a free to visit grotto, which is open at weekends - Saturday from 11am until 4pm and Sunday from 11am until 3pm. John Magee, centre manager for Lakeside Village said: “We are looking forward to welcoming Doncaster Rovers fans and their families to Lakeside Village this Christmas. “We’ve got a free to play crazy golf, our special Elf scanner, Father Christmas in his grotto and there will be lots of festive fun and fundraising for Bluebell Wood
Children’s Hospice, our chosen charity for the year. “Visitors can enjoy our free parking, while shopping at the centre, and make the most of great discounts in all of our stores. “Extended late night shopping is in place with the centre staying open until 8pm on Monday 18 December to Thursday 21 December and 6pm on Friday 22 and Saturday 23. “The centre will be closed for Christmas on December 25 and will reopen at 10am on December 26. “We’d like to take this opportunity to wish Doncaster Rovers, Doncaster Dons and all of their fans a very Merry Christmas” For further information visit www. lakeside-village.co.uk.

Communications team SOCIAL MEDIA HIGHLIGHTS
Supporters at the FA Cup second round game against Scunthorpe United may have noticed a different voice when the Rovers teams were announced over the public address system before the game. Fan Daniel Carter, a student at Doncaster College, dreams of being a stadium announcer. Daniel, who has autism, has been volunteering at Frickley Athletic making a great impression filming their matches and producing highlights - but, as a Rovers fan, dreams of one day joining the communications team at the Keepmoat Stadium.

pitch beore the match to read out the Rovers line-up. It was a pleasure hosting Daniel and his father during the game, and hopefully he can go on to turn his passion into a career. In a previous programme I used this column to detail iFollow Rovers showing live coverage of the Checkatrade Trophy game at Rochdale for UK customers. The day before the game we were informed us that this was not possible.
So we invited him down to see how a matchday works behind the scenes. He got to see how matches are filmed from the gantry and how we then produce highlights instantly for the big screen.
This was really frustrating for us, and although we did put a statement from the EFL apologising on our website, I’d like to reiterate our frustration at the late notice we were given by the EFL.
The highlight for Daniel was joining our matchday announcer Jonathan on the

ADVERTORIAL
Full Time
In December, we’re holding a community poll and giving every voter in Doncaster the chance to have their say about devolution in our region.
So we’re asking a simple question: would you prefer Doncaster to be part of a devolution agreement for wider Yorkshire or Sheffield City region?
Why? Because it’s something that will affect residents like you, our children, our businesses, and the future of our borough for the next 30 years or more.
Keep a look out for the voting packs dropping through your letterbox in early December. You can vote online or via freepost. Have your say by December 20.

CLUB DONCASTER FOUNDATION
Club Doncaster Foundation’s Health and Wellbeing team were part of a Doncaster road safety event with the Fire Service, Police and South Yorkshire Transport. Utilising the range of cycles from the bike library, the CDF team delivered a cycle safety workshop to students from Coppice School Hatfield, a school specially run for students with severe learning difficulties and autism. Going above and beyond, staff from Club Doncaster Foundation also donated nine bikes to the school, to increase the student’s confidence and allow them to make short journeys. Health and Wellbeing co-ordinator Scott Copeland said: “It was a great success, the students really enjoyed the afternoon and learnt a range of new skills. “I’m looking forward to updates from the school about how the students use the donated bikes, hopefully it can make a real difference to their overall health and confidence. I would like to thank members of
52
the public who have donated to the bike library and supported this worthy cause. I would also like to thank our bike mechanic, Mark, who has serviced all the bikes and made sure they are safe for the students. Support like this is hugely appreciated.” Funded by Yorkshire Bank, bike libraries across Yorkshire allow anyone to borrow a bike and encourage physical activity free of charge. Head of Foundation John Davis added: “It’s great to have funding through DMBC to enable us to deliver and support such fantastic cycle sessions across the borough.” If you are interested in borrowing a bike, all you need is photo ID and a £10 deposit, which will be refunded when you return the bike. You can find out more information about borrowing a bike, or donating one by contacting our team on 01302 764663 / scott.copeland@ clubdoncasterfoundation.co.uk.
Doncaster Rovers’ youth team embarked on their NCS adventure recently, exploring the depths of the Peak District. Challenging themselves on exhilarating outdoor activities, the group tackled adrenaline-fuelled adventures like canoeing, rock climbing and abseiling. The group became the final wave to depart for Autumn 2017 and this week are back in Doncaster for phases two and three of the programme. NCS programme manager Jan Budtz said: “NCS is a great opportunity for the youth lads, they will learn skills that will help them both on and off the field. “The programme is full of team bonding exercises, and that will only make their bond stronger. Hopefully it can contribute
to how well they can work together in their careers.” The next phases of the programme allow the players to gain new skills, work as a team and inspire the community with a planned social action project. Academy head Kieran Scarff added: “They have had a really great experience so far; I can’t speak highly enough of the NCS team, they’ve been great, Jan and all the staff have been excellent from day one and I can’t wait to see how the next phases pan out. “Their next phase will be working in the community and that is a massive part of being a footballer and their career. Having the opportunity to develop those skills in those areas is huge; it’s a real benefit to develop them as players and as people.”

CLUB DONCASTER It is that time of the season in the football calendar when fixtures come thick and fast alongside the festive cheer. Despite a wonderful time of year for football fans across the EFL, the safety of supporters remains the number one priority. While not wanting to dampen festive feelgood factor, supporters should be reminded that the threat level for the whole of the UK from terrorism remains at devere, meaning an attack is highly likely, and sadly we have seen from previous examples that crowded places such as football stadiums could potentially be a target. As always, Rovers are continuing to work with the police and the relevant authorities to ensure appropriate security arrangements are in place to protect supporters. The club therefore encourage fans to enjoy all attended fixtures, but please remain alert and if you see
DONCASTER ROVERS BELLES anything that gives you cause for concern, tell a steward or member of staff. In an emergency always call 999. Why not arrive in plenty of time and soak up all of the atmosphere on offer, whether that is in the Belle Vue Bar or Donny’s Kennel. At times, a search regime may be in place, so please be mindful that bags and stuffed coat pockets can cause delays. Where appropriate, minimise what you carry into the stadium. In the event of a major incident inside the stadium, it is vital you listen to all club announcements and follow safety instructions. In the event of a terrorist incident outside of the stadium, the police advice is to ‘Run, Hide, Tell’. It is important to follow this advice and move quickly away from the stadium and to allow access for emergency services. Do not wait around to film anything on your mobile.
Following the Football Association’s proposed re-structuring of the women’s leagues, the Belles have put in their application for a place in the new league. The Belles’ current league position suggests that on footballing grounds they would deserve a place in Tier 1, but the financial criteria set for entry into Tier 1 are simply beyond the club’s means so we have applied for a Tier 2 Licence. The Belles chair, Faye Lygo, commented that the process was rigorous, with emphasis on financial sustainability and development of players.
“We our proud of our coaching set up and our Development and RTC teams, which are producing some excellent talent.
“Our first team are having a strong season in WSL2 and are currently topping the table with an unbeaten run We have taken into account of League games, and off the pitch that teams who have there is lots going operated beyond their on too.
means have recently gone into liquidation or will not be seeking a license in the top leagues. We think our approach ensures the long term future of the Belles
She said: “We have taken into account that teams who have operated beyond their means have recently gone into liquidation or announced that they will not be seeking a license in the top leagues. We think our approach ensures the long term future of the Belles and we hope one day that performance on the field will trump money in the bank. “The FA are currently consulting with the clubs as to the re-naming of the leagues. There is discussion on whether to follow men’s football or strike out with something new. Our philosophy at the Belles remains the same, with our
54
family ethos and a strong emphasis on development of women in football.
“We are working with our new sponsor UCFB, and we are already planning a big year to celebrate our 50th anniversary in 2019.”
The Belles showed they can compete with the best on the field by pushing big-spending Manchester City all the way in a 3-2 Continental Tyres Cup defeat at the Keepmoat Stadium. Goals from Jess Sigsworth and Christie Murray meant the Belles gave double winners City a fantastic run for their money. Then the Belles strengthened their position at the top of WSL 2 with a 3-2 win over Sheffield FC last Sunday.
