A word from the manager

Darren Ferguson Good evening and welcome to the Keepmoat Stadium. I’d like to welcome Kenny Jackett, as well as the supporters, players, staff and owners of the visitors who have made the long trip north for tonight’s fixture. Pompey travel north on the back of a couple of good wins and we know they will provide a real test. Saturday’s loss at Charlton Athletic was frustrating, because we never really got going in the first half. Had we performed for the full 90 minutes as we did in the second period, we’d likely have won the game. The reaction from my players was good, but Charlton had something to hold on to because they scored the early goal and had opportunities on the counterattack. On our second half showing, we felt we deserved to get something out of the game.

need them to be, but we are now 13 games in and there is only one defeat which has been by more than one goal - we are competing effectively in every match and will go again tonight. We got a good home win last time out against Southend, and tonight is a good chance to get the frustration of Saturday out of our systems. I would like to thank our supporters, we took 753 to The Valley on Saturday and every one was again great in their support. We have a big week ahead, and getting behind the players in these next two home games can make a real difference as we look to secure the points. Enjoy tonight’s game.

We have yet to secure back to back league victories in the league this season, which we know would make a huge difference. We know the results are not where we

Thoughts of the chief executive

Gavin Baldwin Good evening. I’d like to welcome the supporters, owners players and staff of Portsmouth. They brought a really impressive number of fans to the equivalent league fixture last season, despite it being on a Thursday night and live on Sky TV, so I’m hopeful they will bring a fair few tonight despite the distance and difficulties that come with it being a midweek tie. I am sure the 753 supporters who made the trip to The Valley on Saturday will have had mixed feelings. There will have been obvious frustration at the result, a 1-0 defeat, but equally I hope people can see what fine margins there have been in games. With only minor differences, Alfie May’s shot which hit the bar would have gone in or either of Tommy Rowe’s headers would have gone in rather than being kept out by Ben Amos then Chris Solly. We know we have a squad with the quality to climb up the table, they are backed up by an experienced and talented backroom structure and I’ve no doubt this will all come together on the pitch. The games tonight and next Saturday are great opportunities for us, both matches will be tough against good sides but we should not fear anyone at the Keepmoat Stadium this season.

held here at the Keepmoat Stadium on Friday November 3. If you have a DNA Card you can get a third off the entrance price, so why not book your place now via our BOx Office on 01302 762576 or by going to tickets. clubdoncaster.co.uk, In fact, our DNA co-ordinator Lauren Wright has been hard at work adding offers to the card and signing up more local firms. A lot of these companies have extended their partnership with us beyond just offering the deal, and purchased the card for their staff as an employee benefit. Everyone at Club Doncaster has been following our professional snooker player Chris Keogan in recent weeks, as he has faced two of the best competitors in the world in the shape of Ronnie O’Sullivan and Ding Junhui. This programme had to go to print before he took on Ding in the English Open in Barnsley, but he competed well against O’Sullivan and no doubt will learn a lot from facing one the the best players in the history of the game. We wish Chris luck for the rest of the season.

story. I’m not one to be putting it in a top corner from outside the area very often, so a lot of my goals are one or two touch finishes and when the service is good I’m confident I can put those chances away.

Marquis has followed up 26 strikes “A striker’s job is to score goals, in Sky Bet League Two last season but that is an area we need to improve with a handful more already this term, on collectively as we haven’t scored and knows that with the right service enough this season and we want to get he will continue to add to back to how we were his tally. last year.” “I have bought into the “As a striker you know The responsibility of club’s plans – the what suits your game leading the line at owners want to be in the and where most of the the Keepmoat Stadium Championship, and I want goals come from, so I will is something which to be a part of that” just keep on getting in the Marquis relishes, right areas and the goals and he will have will flow,” he says. another challenge in his personal life in the not too distant future. “I sat down and looked at where my goals come from and 90 per cent last The 25-year-old’s partner is due to give season came either between the birth in the spring, and the pressures width of the posts or inside the which that will entail are something which 18-yard box – so that tells its own Marquis will thrive upon as well.

“I’m really excited and it’s great news for myself and my girlfriend, but that’s separate to football and I’ll come in a nd do my work and then go home to rest up and enjoy the time leading up to the due date,” he says. “It’s going to be a busy period for me becoming a first-time father and I’m looking forward to it, but it won’t affect me out there on the pitch as I’ll still have the same mentality. “My girlfriend has said she will do a lot of the night feeds which is good for me, but I will chip in and do my bit – it’s about knowing what I can and can’t do as I’ve not changed any nappies before.” The subject of family is something which is important to Marquis, and the closeknit environment around the football club was a big reason for him deciding to come here in the summer of 2016. “Leaving Millwall was tough because it is a very special club to me and it always will be.

so it is very similar to what I’m used to in that respect.” Marquis penned a new three-yeardeal with Rovers in the summer after an impressive first season in South Yorkshire, and says that was a case of him repaying the faith shown in him by manager Darren Ferguson. “I’ve said a few times that I can’t thank the manager and the club enough because not only did they reward me with the new contract but they showed that they believed in me last year,” he says. “I’d been out on many loans before I came here – some good, some bad – but having a manager that trusts in you and gives you the confidence to go out there and play is fantastic. “I’ve bought into the club’s plans for the next few years – the owners want to be in the Championship, and I want to be a part of that as that’s where I believe we should be.”

“They’re very close-knit and like a family and I do see Doncaster as quite similar with the way the team and fans are together as one,” says Marquis.

Marquis would have faced a former club for the third time this season – having already lined up against Gillingham and Northampton – were he not serving a one-match suspension.

“It was a big challenge for me when I first came here, moving from the south was something I wanted to do for a fresh start on and off the pitch.

But the front-man insists that this would have been just another game, even if he was pleased to bag three goals in two games against Pompey last season.

“It’s a great area to live in, a large majority of the people are Rovers fans

“It ended up just being another two games last season, they won the

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS league so to take six points off them was a really strong sign of how good we were,” says Marquis. “They’ve changed manager now and have Kenny Jackett in charge, he gave me my debut at Millwall so I know him very well. They’ve brought in some quality too, so we know they will be a strong side.

To continue the interview with the forward we asked him a few short fire questions about more quirky topics

“I got three goals against them last season but it’s in the past now, having said that I go into every game confident that I can get the better of the defenders I’m up against.” After Rovers claimed their first home League One win of the season against Southend United at the Keepmoat Stadium just 10 days ago, Marquis is confident that can spark a run of good results on home soil. “Back to back wins would ignite our season, picking up a good number of points in a short space of time could turn our season around and hopefully go on a bit of a run,” he adds.

“We know that in terms of the number of points we have that we’re not where we want to be just yet, but I feel there have been positives to take from a lot of our performances. “The level has changed but last season we felt like we had a League One team playing in League Two anyway, so we’re more than capable of handling the step up as we’ve shown in a lot of games already.”

NEWS

Goalkeeper Ian Lawlor was pleased with the way the side reacted in the second half of Rovers’ 1-0 defeat to Charlton Athletic on Saturday. A ninth minute strike from Tariqe Fosu stole all three points for Karl Robinson men, but Lawlor says Rovers need to be more aggressive in the opening periods of the game. “We saw a better reaction in the second half, we got the ball down and created a lot of opportunities for ourselves and Charlton struggled to get out of their half in a few spells,” said Lawlor. “I am disappointed with the result, we did not start the way we wanted to which was aggressive, and it was a sloppy start from us overall. We just need to dust ourselves down and go again on Tuesday, I made a

12

couple of saves in the second half, but it means nothing when you do not get the three points at the end of the game.” Darren Ferguson’s side return to league action tonight, and Lawlor says Rovers have enough quality to get a result. “After a defeat it is better to get another game straight after so we are not waiting another week to put the result right, we will have had a recovery session on Monday and then go again,” said Lawlor. “Losing such a key player early on like Coppinger is a blow, it does affect the team, but I think Rodney Kongolo did really well when he came on. We have a quality squad, due to injuries and suspensions we will have to rotate, but we are all moving in the right direction and we have to pull together and get a result.”

Ben Whiteman felt Rovers fans who saw his hat-trick against Southend United at the Keepmoat Stadium last Saturday witnessed the best goal he has ever scored. The midfielder struck three times inside the opening 10 minutes of the second period, with the second a sweetly-struck half-volley which clipped the underside of the bar. Whiteman said: “It’s probably the best goal I’ve ever scored, I’ve not scored that many good goals. “In the very first game I hit one off the bar and had one cleared off the line,

luckily it fell to me nicely and I’ve tucked it away.” Whiteman is on loan from Sky Bet Championship side Sheffield United until January, and would be keen to remain at the Keepmoat Stadium until the summer. He added: “The main thing for me is to keep playing games and getting experience, I’d definitely like – to stay beyond January. “I like it here, the boys are different class - the gaffer, coaching staff, and everyone who works here have been unbelievable with me.”

John Schofield reckons the players involved in the Development squad’s 4-0 win over Walsall should take plenty of confidence from the encounter. Rovers were dominant in the Central League Cup fixture at Ray Hall Lane, leading 3-0 at the break and extending it further in the second period. They were helped by the returning experience of Mathieu Baudry, who strolled through his first 60 minutes since a pre-season injury as he played in a back three alongside Craig Alcock and Tyler Garratt. Schofield said: “It was important to get game time for players like Frenchy, Craig Alcock and Issam Ben Khemis - that will do them the world of good.

the left before slotting the ball into a bottom corner (above). James Morris then quickly made it 2-0, then converted from close range just before the break to extend the lead further. Jacob Fletcher - full of confidence after making his first-team debut less than a week earlier, becoming the first player born in 2000 or later to represent Rovers - scored from just inside the area early in the second half. Schofield added: “A month ago Fletcher was playing non-league at Spalding, getting his first taste of men’s football. You can see it has toughened him up, and these kind of games are vital for the development of players like him.

“And the younger players alongside them will come on for it as well, we still had a very young squad out there and the way “With so many Academy products in the they are coming on this season is brilliant. Checkatrade Trophy side and Danny Amos representing Northern Ireland U19s, Liam Mandeville opened the scoring for we can be proud of the young players Rovers after 18 minutes, cutting in from we’ve got coming through.”

AWAY TEAM PORTSMOUTH

TOP STOPPER Tottenham Hotspur Academy product McGee signed for Pompey this summer, following five years with the North London club. McGee spent much of his time with Spurs, acting as No.1 in their youth and under-23 games, but it was last season that he got his first proper taste of professional football. On-loan at Peterborough United last term, McGee kept 10 clean sheets in 38 games in all competitions for the Posh. He signed a three-year deal with Portsmouth this summer, and has quickly established himself as No.1 at Fratton Park.

LUKE McGEE

1

MIDFIELD MAESTRO Tricky winger Bennett is no stranger to the Keepmoat Stadium, having spent four years with Rovers between 2011 and 2015. After starting out with Wolverhampton Wanderers and Bury, Bennett made the move to South Yorkshire in the summer of 2011, and, despite relegation in his first season, was a key player in Rovers’ League One titlewinning campaign in the 2012/13 season. He made over 120 appearances in red and white, scoring 16 goals, with notable efforts against Barnsley, and a stunning double away at Sheffield United in his final season. Bennett made the move to the south coast in 2015, and was an instant success, and although his first season saw a play-off semi-final defeat, his second saw him help Pompey to the Sky Bet League Two title. In August this year, he celebrated making his 100th appearance for Portsmouth.

18

KYLE BENNETT

23

DEFENSIVE ROCK The centre-back is in his second spell with Portsmouth, following a loan spell two seasons ago. He spent 14 years with Ipswich Town, coming up through the ranks in the Tractor Boys’ Academy, before going on to make four appearances in an Ipswich shirt. Clarke spent a season on-loan at Fratton Park in 2015/16, making 29 appearances as he helped Pompey reach the Sky Bet League Two play-offs that year.

MATT CLARKE

5

Clarke signed a three-year deal with Portsmouth last summer, and was a big part of their League Two winning side, making 41 appearances and chipping in with a goal.

DEADLY STRIKER Like his team-mate Kyle Bennett, striker Main is also a familiar face around these parts. Main began his career at Darlington before making a move to Middlesbrough, and in 2014 he made his way to Doncaster as part of a deal that saw James Husband go in the opposite direction.

CURTIS MAIN

14

He scored 11 goals in 58 appearances for Rovers, but spent the last part of his time at the club away on-loan at Oldham Athletic, where he helped keep the Latics up, while sending his parent club down to League Two. He has entered into the final year of the two-year contract that he signed last summer.

19

JOINT FIVE-A-SIDE DEFENDERS Mustapha DUMBUYA Our researchers could not find anyone who played for both between the sticks, so we will have rush keepers. Mustapha Dumbuya was given his chance in professional football when Sean O’Driscoll signed him for Rovers in the summer of 2009 after impressing during a lengthy trial period. An exciting player to watch, Dumbuya battled with Jimmy O’Connor for a full-back position before signing for Portsmouth in 2012. It was in the same year in which Dumbuya made his international debut for Sierra Leone, where he has since gone on to earn 12 caps. Moves to Crawley and Notts County followed after leaving Portsmouth, and he is now in Scotland with Partick Thistle.

DEFENDERS Enda STEVENS A Republic of Ireland U21 international who made his name with Shamrock Rovers before a move to then Premier League side Aston Villa in 2012. After struggling to make it into the first team at Villa Park, Stevens enjoyed a number of loan spells including two with Doncaster. The left-sided defender played almost 50 games for Rovers as he played consistently in the English game for the first time. His performances alerted Portsmouth to his availability and they

20

snapped him up in the summer of 2015. Stevens went on to win two Player of the Year awards during his time at Fratton Park, before signing for Sheffield United in the summer of 2017.

MIDFIELDERS Kyle BENNETT

The midfielder, pictured, started his career with Wolves before dropping down to Sky Bet League Two to play for Bury at the start of the 2010/11 campaign. Some impressive performances on the wing at Gigg Lane eventually led to Sean O’Driscoll signing him for Doncaster for a fee which was eventually decided by a tribunal due to his age at the time. He went on to play more than 100 times for Rovers in the Championship and League One, as well as being loaned out to Crawley Town and Bradford City during his spell in South Yorkshire. Bennett left Rovers to join Portsmouth in 2015 and played a key role in them firstly making it to the play off semi-final in his first campaign, and then going one better and winning promotion as champions last season.

David COTTERILL The Welsh wingerl started his career at Bristol City before a string of impressive performances led to a £2million move to then Premier League side Wigan Athletic. Cotterill eventually turned a loan move to Sheffield United permanent in 2008.

The 29-year-old had two solid seasons at Bramall Lane before returning to his native Wales to sign for Swansea City. It was during his time with the Swans that he enjoyed a loan spell with Portsmouth, playing 15 times for the club in 2011. Cotterill then went on to re-ignite his career with a move to Doncaster in 2012, where he flourished with fellow Welshman Dean Saunders in charge.

STRIKER

Frederic PIQUIONNE Made his name in his native France after performing at the top level for the likes of Rennes, Saint Etienne and Monaco. It was during his time at Lyon, though, that the front-man attracted the attentions of Portsmouth, who at that time were still a Premier League club. He signed on a season-long loan at Fratton Park in the summer of 2009 and went on to score five goals in 34 appearances before signing for West Ham United following Pompey’s relegation from the top tier. He helped them win promotion back to the Premier League under Sam Allardyce before being to Rovers. The highlight of the 38-year-old’s loan at the Keepmoat Stadium was scoring a 35yard stunner against Nottingham Forest in a 2-1 victory.

MY WEEK: SPORTS COLLEGE STUDENT The Keepmoat Stadium is a hive of activity during the week, Chloe Purcell and Brandon Burke are students at Club Doncaster Sports College MONDAY We get to college at 9am and meet the guys in the common room for a coffee. Then lessons start and we’re straight into classroom one with Ben looking at how professional and amateur sports teams operate and generate cashflow. After a quick break it’s in with Emma to study the analysis of sport, looking at how cricket and rugby league use Opta stats to develop players. Watching sport for a living sounds pretty good. Dinner time gives us an opportunity to play a game of king on the table tennis table and talk about this week’s games against Wyke and Leeds City College. After dinner we have Mark, he’s talking us through the sports coaching unit where we’ll eventually create and deliver our own practical session. Three students from our course went on to work for the Foundation as a coach, it sounds like an amazing opportunity to continue working in the organisation. Last period we have Eric Randerson, Eric is a bit of a legend around here and his sessions are class: today we were put through our paces in a field hockey session. After college we have training: 60 students take part in football and rugby league training, we’re lucky enough to have former Rovers captain Tim Ryan and former Super League star Rhys Lovegrove taking charge. TUESDAY In Ben’s business in sport unit we’re starting the assignment, a PowerPoint presentation on two contrasting sports

22

organisations. In Mark’s lesson we’re watching clips from FA coach Steve Lister and analysing progression within his session. Emma told us this week that we’ve got a trip to sports analysis company In-Play Sports, so we’re analysing stats from various rugby league games to see how territory percentage shape scoring opportunities. After college Eric Randerson gets the Ladies Academy squad together for a training session prior to the game against Wyke Sixth Form. ACADEMY MATCHDAY Wednesday is game day and a chance for a lay in. The ladies and men’s second team are both at home, with the Ladies Academy on the Athletics Stadium

pitch against Wyke and the second team on the 4G pitch. We have three other teams away, including our Rugby League Academy, who are at Leeds City College. 11am: We meet in the common room for a coffee and a few games of killer pool, Danny is usually the changing room DJ – he hooks his phone up to the common room sound system to get everyone up for the game. 11:45am: We meet down in the changing room and the squad is read out, then we get to put on the red and white of Doncaster Rovers. Once we’re ready, Tim comes back in to give us the instructions for the game. The team talk often links to things we’ve done in training and lessons, we’re setting up with a holding midfielder and I’ll be playing at the tip of the diamond behind the front two. Tim always focuses on the positives, gives us simple and effective instructions and sends us out on the pitch relaxed and ready for action. 12:30pm: We go out onto the pitch and warm up. We get a couple of minutes to warm up, take in a few gentle strides and

get a feel of the playing surface. We all get together to do some mobility work, lunges and squats before lining up on the line to raise our heart rate slightly, preparing our bodies for the game. We get a feel of the ball with a passing drill, breaking out into possession drills which focus on keeping the ball moving in a quick and accurate manner. 1:25pm: Tim gets us in for a final word before the 1.30pm kick-off and encourages us to be brave and enjoy ourselves. 3:15pm: Full time. A successful 5-0 victory for Club Doncaster Sports College against Hall Cross Sixth Form. We shake hands with the opposition and it’s time for the de-brief and cool down. THURSDAY Will runs a gym session, all the students have produced a plan for a resistant weights session. In the second period, Craig is looking at customer service in sport, a really important part of being a personal trainer working with clients. After dinner, Sarah takes a planning and assisting session where we will get together as a group and share our ideas as a group on how to make a session exciting and present it to the group, we’re going to put on a Boxercise session to music. FRIDAY Day off, phew! A day off before going to watch Doncaster Rovers with our complimentary season tickets received through the college.

Words from the Academy manager

KIERAN SCARFF It was great to be able to sit down with Danny Amos on Thursday to reflect on his UEFA Under 19 European Championship qualifying campaign in Poland with Northern Ireland. Danny was involved in three games, playing 90 minutes in a 2-1 defeat to Poland and 90 minutes in 0-0 draw with Belarus. Danny scored the goal in the first game which saw Poland score two late goals to win a game shown live on Polish television. The final game against Belarus was played in a new 55,000 all seater stadium. In addition, the squad visited Auschwitz, a harrowing but unforgettable experience. Danny has clearly enjoyed the experience and we look forward to seeing the benefits of this for his long term development.

and his staff for their support and regular feedback. This way of working can only help Danny develop further. Next Sunday will see our Academy host a festival, on behalf of the EFL, for Under 10 players. A number of academies will be sending their under 10 sides to play in a tournament that will be organised and structured by our lead foundation phase coach Tom Sutton and head of coaching Tony Cook. It is great for us to be able to work closely with the EFL to provide the facilities and structure for events such as these. I know all the young players will have an enjoyable experience.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Stephen Fraill, the U19 manager, U18s assistant manager Paul Driver reckons Rovers’ U18s first win of the season – a 2-1 success over Hartlepool United on Saturday – is one of many to come. A bright start from Rovers didn’t pay off as in the early stages as they conceded when Pools captain Jacob Owen headed in from a corner. The Rovers youngsters did respond in the second-half when substitute Jack Watson scored with a sublime strike from the edge of the box. Rovers kept on pressing from there but it looked like it wasn’t going to be Rovers’ day when a miscommunication between James Leverton and Kane Bingley led to a foul on Hartlepool’s attacker, earning them a penalty. Up stepped Owen, but Leverton for down to the bottom-left corner to save. Rovers eventually Rovers earnt their win through Danny Amos when he scored his free-kick from the edge of the box. Driver said: “Even with the penalty save that’s against the run of play, I thought we deserved a win. We’ve worked hard throughout the season, especially in the last few weeks, and it’s been coming. Hopefully it’s the first of many now they have got that feeling.”

TEN YEARS AGO: DONCASTER ROVERS IN SEASON 2007-08. Part 7 Doncaster Rovers began November 2007 just outside the top six in League One and keen to build on their excellent, thrilling win over fellow promotion contenders Leyton Orient.

struggles. An unchanged Rovers side dominated possession but fell behind against the run of play after 18 minutes when Dickinson turned Adam Lockwood and fired past Sullivan at the near post.

Their next game took them to Swindon Town, the first of four successive away games in league and cup.

Things almost got worse after 35 minutes, when Sullivan was harshly adjudged to have fouled Dickinson inside the area.

J. J. Price, who had done much to turn around the Orient game, started in place of Sean McDaid in the only change from that victory.

Facey hammered his penalty kick against the crossbar, though, and Rovers were reprieved. Trailing at the break, Rovers finally levelled on 63 minutes from the game’s second spot kick.

Rovers began well at the County Ground and it came as no surprise when they took the lead after 32 minutes. The home defence failed to clear a corner and Brian Stock rifled a low drive past Brezovan. Rovers led at the break but were soon pulled back to parity. After 47 minutes Neil Sullivan failed to hold a cross and in the resulting scramble Cox forced the ball in, Rovers defenders claiming he did so with his hand. Rovers claimed the winner with 17 minutes remaining when James O’Connor’s centre bounced off a defender into the path of Lewis Guy who scored from close range. Rovers held on to claim an important 2-1 win. Three days later they were back on the road, this time to Gillingham, a team showing improvement after early

26

Richie Wellens (pictured) was tripped by Cogan and James Hayter beat Royce from 12 yards. Rovers pressed hard for a winner, but the game ended 1-1. Still, a return of four points from two tricky away games was not to be sneezed at. Saturday 10th November 2007 saw Rovers take a break from League action as they headed across the Pennines to face Oldham Athletic in the first round of the FA Cup. Manager Sean O’Driscoll chose to shuffle his pack, with Gordon Greer, Paul Green, Martin Woods and James Coppinger all recalled. The home side had a poor start to the day with both goalkeeper Beresford and striker Liddell sustaining injuries in the

warm-up, Crossley and Smalley coming into their side. Despite these setbacks Oldham had the better of the early exchanges and it was no surprise when they took the lead on 31 minutes, defender Trotman heading in from Kilkenny’s corner. Rovers made a change at the interval, Price replacing Coppinger, but four minutes into the second half they found themselves 2-0 down. Davies got away on the left, cut inside and curled a fine shot past Sullivan, a quality goal which left Rovers with a mountain to climb. They began their ascent on 63 minutes when the home defence failed to clear a cross and Hayter slammed the loose ball past Crossley from 12 yards. Rovers sent on Guy for Lockwood in a bid to add extra firepower and their efforts were rewarded four minutes from time. Gareth Roberts found Wellens on the left and he powered his way to the byline before pulling back for Hayter to level the score. An entertaining Cup tie finished 2-2 and the teams would have to replay at the Keepmoat in a couple of weeks’ time. Hopefully the extra fixture would not distract from Rovers’ League efforts. Viking Supporters Co-Operative Football is the national game, and football supporters are the lifeblood of the game. While many privately owned football clubs are well run, ours included, there are numerous examples over the years where this model of ownership has failed the supporters of that club, and has led to a number of clubs becoming either partly or fully owned by those supporters. Recently the Minister Of Sport set up the Expert Working Group with the intention of looking at ways to improve engagement and dialogue between clubs and fans, and therefore to improve transparency and trust.

discuss a very broad range of topics. It is early days for this new Board, but so far the signs are very encouraging in that nothing has been held back and the trust between club and supporters is evident. As the meetings progress we hope to be able to announce the progress that has been made. Suffice to say that DRFC have not only met the new requirements but have exceeded them in both frequency and content, and that is something we can once again be proud of. IRWT Martin O’Hara

The detailed recommendations from the EWG led to the government instructing the Football League and the Premier League to enter into structured dialogue with those supporters, and especially with the supporters trust at that club. The EFL issued a new league rule informing clubs of the minimum requirement for meeting with supporters and the kind of topics that should be included. That new rule came into force for the 2016/17 season. As you may be aware the club hold two Meet The Owners events each year which meet the criteria set down by the EFL. On top of that the club have initiated a Supporters Board which meets on a monthly basis during the season to

CLUB DONCASTER FOUNDATION

Club Doncaster Foundation has partnered with bus operator First South Yorkshire to gift 1,000 DNA Cards, Season Memberships and bus passes to local community groups and schools. DNA Cards are included as part of Season Memberships at Doncaster Rovers FC or available as a standalone product for £20, but the new partnership has committed £30,000 so young people engaged in Foundation activities in the area can attend matches and enjoy discounts from the DNA Card. They will also be able to enjoy one week’s free bus travel across South Yorkshire. The 1,000 tickets, cards and passes available will be distributed across a range of local groups including National Citizen Service, KICKS volunteering programme, students of Club Doncaster Sports College and local schools in Doncaster, all projects delivering targeted interventions to more than 4,000 individuals per year and growing. This funding enhances programmes such as KICKS - giving young people

access to free organised football sessions, alongside volunteering opportunities to further support, develop and increase participation levels for young people. Jim Lord, executive director at Club Doncaster Foundation, said: “We have developed a wonderful partnership with First Group that adds genuine value to the extensive work of the Foundation and Club Doncaster Sports College. Young people that get involved in our programmes now have the chance to regularly watch both the Rovers and Dons and also benefit from a broad range of discounts.” The partnership between Club Doncaster Foundation and First South Yorkshire was born out of a collective mission to encourage more youngsters to travel by bus. Allan Riggall, head of commercial at First South Yorkshire, said: “We’re proud to support the communities that we operate within, so we’re pleased to be working in partnership with Club Doncaster. By using our network, young people can benefit from unlimited bus travel, for just £6 per week – and we hope to welcome more young people on board.”

Club Doncaster Foundation were proud to showcase their promotional video and 2016/17 impact report after an incredible year of engagement.

“None of this would be possible without the fantastic team of dedicated staff throughout the Foundation, along with the support of our key partners.

The two feature the fantastic work the team do throughout the Doncaster Borough; 90,765 attendances, just one of the impressive stats showcased in the material.

“It shows the quality of provision across the departments and just what a huge impact the team make on a day-to-day basis.”

Head of Foundation, John Davis, commented: “We’re delighted to launch our impact report and promotional video, both of which look to highlight the breadth of our delivery across Doncaster.

The video, Challenge / Inspire / Motivate - a reflection of a typical day at Club Doncaster Foundation - can be found on the Doncaster Rovers website or YouTube channel.
