Darren Ferguson Even in the final few minutes last week, with the score 5-1 and the points won, every player on the pitch was working hard to press and close the opposition down. I know supporters appreciate that kind of effort.
Steve’s sides are renowned for their work-rate, so we will know we have to keep our focus today to get what we want out of the game. We are full of belief, though, after last week’s win at Grimsby Town.
We got the reaction we wanted after the loss to Plymouth, though there were many things right with the performance in that game, and the players have been brilliant. It’s not every day you score five goals away from home. We have done better than anyone else in the league at reacting to defeats.
Your support at Blundell Park again last week was fantastic, as it has been home and away all season. You have been vocal when needed, and patient at the times when that has been required. You still have a big part to play in the final six games as we look to secure promotion and, then, see if we can win the title.
Enjoy the game.

Gavin Baldwin Rovers delegation at the EFL Awards in London tomorrow evening. John Marquis and James Coppinger are on the three-man shortlist for the Sky Bet League Two Player of the Season, while we know Darren is already the division’s Manager of the Season.
To be in the position we are is down to a lot of hard work from our dedicated staff over the course of the season. From the moment last season ended, everyone has been focused on ensuring this campaign matched our expectations – and we’ve been clear from the off that those expectations are promotion. Darren Ferguson has built a truly driven team, and it is a pleasure to work with everyone. The vision the owners have for Club Doncaster, on and off the pitch, is already paying real dividends.
While those prizes will come for our success on the pitch, we are just as proud to have Andy Butler shortlisted for the Community Player of the year and Paul Mayfield as the divisional winner of the Supporter of the Year. We could not be prouder of ‘Buts’ or Paul for the roles they play in making sure Rovers are firmly part of the community.
While the job is not yet completed on the pitch, the rewards for that hard work is now being recognised outside the club. It will be an honour to be part of the
We have been blown away by record sales of our season membership in the first two weeks’ since launch, we can be very excited about what the future holds for us as a united Club Doncaster. Enjoy the game.

DONCASTER CHILDREN’S Services Trust Club Doncaster Foundation and Doncaster Children’s Services Trust have joined forces to give young women and girls across the Borough the opportunity to learn new skills and sports. Working with CDF coaches at the Keepmoat Stadium, the group have a 10-week spell strengthening their CVs with life and leadership skills as well as challenging themselves with a young leaders course. The 10-week stint at the Keepmoat also includes a bikeability course led by Cycle to Health specialists to give them an enjoyable and invaluable experience. Rebecca Jubb, who is heavily involved with the partnership ,said: “Kelly and Heather who run the programme are doing a fabulous job and are really making a difference for these children, which is what this is about.” As part of the course, the girls get to choose what content they are delivered and were excited to get the chance to meet role models to inspire them as they embark on their own careers. Former Doncaster Rovers keeper and NCS manager Jan Budtz, sports lecturer Emma Harrison and media and communications co-ordinator / Women’s Premier League footballer Sophie Scargill took centre stage to inspire the group and tell their story. Community co-ordinator for Women and Girls Sport Heather King expressed her delight at the visit. She said: “The role models session was one of the best ones so far, the girls were so engaged with the mentors and asked some really great questions to help them get where they needed to be. “You could see how inspired they were by the end of the session: they really bought into the idea that if you work hard anything is possible. “The girls seem to be really enjoying it every week, and taking on board everything we’re saying, it’s great that we’re making a difference.” For more information on the different experiences delivered by Club Doncaster Foundation, contact 01302 764663.

NCS TEAM RETURN FROM Spring Programme
The NCS team based at the Club Doncaster Foundation have returned from the first phase of their spring programme after partnering with YMCA Doncaster.
They will then spend the final week planning and delivering a Social Action Project of their choice to give something back to the community and help change the lives of local residents.
45 young people from YMCA joined the NCS team to explore Edale, Peak District where they have challenged themselves to a series of exciting adventures.
Michelle Smith, YMCA Centre Manager commented: “Participating in the NCS programme will allow our learners to step outside of their comfort zone and experience things they never thought capable.”
Over the past week, the young people have tried their hand at adrenaline-fuelled activities such as caving, abseiling, climbing and canoeing.
“Taking part in NCS is a fantastic addition to add to your CV and really does give you invaluable life skills so it’s great that we can partner with YMCA Doncaster to give young people there this opportunity.” The young people have now returned to Doncaster where they will take part in skills building sessions with the Dame Kelly Holmes Trust, which involves inspirational talks from past athletes and team building exercises.
National Citizen Service is a once in a lifetime opportunity available to 15-17 year olds across England and Northern Ireland that builds life and work skills. There are several start dates throughout the summer school holidays all at the fixed price of £50, which includes all accommodation, food and activities throughout the three weeks. NCS Programme Manager, Jan Budtz expressed his delight at the partnership. He said: “The first phase is brilliant for building confidence and during the week, we really see the young people grow.”
“For some it will give them self-belief and the opportunity to build relationships as well as taking their first steps outside of Doncaster. The learner will return better citizens that are better equipped for the world of work.”

MARQUIS John
John MARQUIS John Marquis is serenaded by Rovers fans as the best striker in the Football League, but the forward would happily not score again this season so long as it ends with a medal around his neck. The 24-year-old bagged his first EFL hat-trick in the memorable 5-1 win at Grimsby Town last weekend to take his tally to 26 goals for the season.
12 Box Office: 01302 762576
It is an incredible return for the striker whose playing career prior to this season had been notable for a nomadic series of loans away from Millwall after never quite getting the run of games he needed at the Lions. “It is my first Football League hat-trick so it is one that I will always remember, but it was all about winning and picking up the three points,” he says about last week’s heroics at Blundell Park, the first time he has claimed a matchball since a loan spell in the Conference when a teenager. “I’m playing in a talented side who always make chances for me, whether it is James Coppinger, Gary McSheffrey, Andy Williams or Tommy Rowe, we have some of the best players in the league and are the best team in the league – in my opinion. “I was buzzing for Andy Williams to get a goal as he worked his socks off and Alfie May came off the bench and grabbed one, so it was a good day at the office for the strikers. “I work hard in training on my finishing and that is something I was not renowned for but, this season, I’m scoring a lot more. I’ve
Everything happens for a reason, the way we are as a team we purposefully analyse every game to improve. That’s been a big thing for us this season – each game, win or lose, we have improved. not had a season like this before, and it is a great feeling. “I’m very much a team player, I will always put the team first over any personal performances and accolades, but if I can get the Golden Boot at the end of the season then that would be fantastic.”
“Then we want more than just promotion – we want to go on and win this league. There’s nothing more that I want than to have a league winner’s medal round my neck at the start of May,” he says. “For us now we have six more games and Plymouth have the same, we just have to make sure that we finish above them come the end of the season. “We have three at home now and three away, we are in form now bar the Plymouth result but we should have won that game, and we are in that part of the season where you need to be in that kind of form.” Last weekend’s win in North East Lincolnshire was yet another example of this Rovers side bouncing back from defeat with victory. While there is no doubt that losing 1-0 to Plymouth the previous weekend was
“The fans made it into a home game last week,” says John. “The previous week was disappointing, but we didn’t make a big deal of it. It was a massive game, and we didn’t get the result we deserved. But you’ve got to be the best team after 46 games. It’s rare that someone wins the league and have not been the best team. “We need to make sure we finish above them. We pride ourselves that when we’ve lost a game, we’ve come back and won the next one.” John keeps making history, with each goal seeing him become the first Rovers man in decades to hit a certain number of goals. But while John could not be said to shy away from the limelight – it is usually his voice that stands out on the pitch or at the training ground – he insists the credit should be shared with his team-mates and the club’s coaching staff. “I can’t thank my team-mates enough for their service and the manager for bringing me here in the first place,” he adds. “He showed me a vision, where I could fit into that plan, and after 40 league games we are where we expect to be. The manager and his staff have improved me as a player throughout the season, it gives us the confidence to go out and put in performances like we have.”
13 Box Office: 01302 762576
With six games to go, Rovers know a win today would secure promotion. With a six-point gap to second placed Plymouth Argyle, the targets are clear: guarantee elevation to Sky Bet League One, then ensure no one can dispose us at the top of the table.
a disappointment, it was not one the players let distract them from their goal of sealing promotion.

The forward made his debut for the Tykes against Doncaster Rovers in a 2-2 draw at Oakwell, but did not score his first goal for the side until 2013, scoring the winning goal against Burnley in the FA Cup. After spending time out on loan with Greater-Manchester side Bury for the majority of the2013/14 season, Rose made the move permanent in the summer transfer window. He spent two seasons at Gigg Lane before joining Mansfield Town at the start of the 2016/17 campaign, he made the perfect start to life at the One Call Stadium, scoring on his debut against Newport County in a 3-2 win.

Hello everyone, Welcome to our game against Mansfield Town. Congratulations to the mums who got to walk out with the players on Mother’s Day when we played Plymouth. I would also like to say how much I enjoyed walking out with Isla: sorry you got a little wet by the sprinkler on the pitch! I was also lucky enough to attend West Road Primary, Intake Library and Bentley Junior Football Club with the squad on 21st March as we launched our season tickets (check my photos out). The reception class at West Road Primary were so pleased to see me: I always enjoy making everyone smile. Only two more home games left after today so let’s make plenty of noise.

Academy manager Kieran Scarff said: “To be fair to Grimsby they were very good in the early parts of the game and the players found it difficult to find solutions to the intensity of their play. O nce they worked out their shape and how to counteract this in and out of possession they started to become more dominant and I certainly felt they deserved to get their rewards, albeit in very dramatic fashion at the end!”

Kieran SCARFF Ben MAWSON I’d like to extend a warm welcome to all Academy and Development players who are part of the Academy Takeover day today. We have many activities going on around the ground pre, during and post game. Today we also welcome our new U8 Academy signings and would like to welcome them with their family for their special day here at DRFC. Today we welcome to the DRFC Family: Our youngsters have a great day planned for them and I would like to thank Ben Mawson for organising such a great experience. I know how much you all value the role of the Academy and know you will give them a good ovation. In addition Ben and Tom Sutton organised a tremendous weekend last week for our Under 10s and 11s to tour London, playing Chelsea, Luton and Cambridge before watching England at Wembley. These experiences are invaluable for the long term development of young players and a big thanks must go to Ben and our coaches for the time and effort they gave in providing such an opportunity. Good luck to the gaffer, the staff and players this afternoon.

THE RECORD BREAKERS: DONCASTER ROVERS 70 YEARS AGO. Part 21 - By John Coyle
50 Box Office: 01302 762576
The impending trip to Millmoor to face Rotherham United on Saturday 26th April 1947 was the talk of Doncaster. With a capacity of just over 20,000 demand for tickets far exceeded supply and Rovers could have shifted their allocation of around 4,500 several times over. The day of the match was also the day of the FA Cup Final between Burnley and Charlton Athletic but only one fixture was on the minds of fans in Rotherham and Doncaster. Rovers were unchanged for the third game in succession Line up: Archie Ferguson; Harry Tomlinson Bill Corbett; Cecil Stirland, Sid Bycroft, Bob McFarlane; Jackie Kirkaldie, Jackie Thompson, Clarrie Jordan, Paul Todd, Ralph Maddison. Rovers knew that a win would all but clinch the Division Three (North) Championship but they fell behind after 10 minutes when Guest pulled the ball back for Hainsworth to slam past Ferguson. The lead lasted only two minutes, Todd equalising with a splendid header. Then on 23 minutes Williams brought down Kirkaldie as he sprinted onto Paul Todd’s pass and TODD Thompson scored from the
resulting penalty. Rovers, who had been the better side, led 2-1 at the break but Rotherham were not unbeaten at home for nothing and surged back in the second half. Despite Archie FERGUSON some heroics from Ferguson they were level on 65 minutes when Ardron and Hainsworth set up McLean who scored with a low drive. The game looked set for a draw with only a minute remaining when Rotherham launched a late attack. Shaw cut in from the wing and hit a low but rather weak shot which somehow deceived Ferguson, rolling between his legs and creeping over the line. Rotherham held on for a 3-2 win, Rovers first reverse since 18th January. More importantly, Rovers’ lead at the top was down to 10 points, and Rotherham had 14 left to play for. A week later Rovers had an opportunity to set matters right when they faced Chester at Belle Vue. Chester were third in the table and although some distance off the leading Clarrie JORDAN two were not a side to be taken lightly. A crowd of 17,015 saw unchanged Rovers make a bright start which was rewarded with a goal
Rotherham kept up the pressure by beating Wrexham 3-2, but with three games left in 1946-47 Rovers needed
only three more points to seal the title, and given their superior goal difference one win would probably do it. This remarkable team was within touching distance of rounding off a remarkable season in the best way possible. JOHN COYLE

after 20 minutes. Jordan seized on a loose ball and dashed between two defenders to fire past the advancing goal- keeper. It was his 41st League goal of the campaign, a club record. Ferguson then produced a magnificent save to foil Astbury and Rovers led 1-0 at the interval. Rovers began to take charge during Jackie THOMSON the second period and after Thompson rattled the crossbar he made no mistake a few minutes later. Maddison fed him and Thompson smashed a shot past Scales from 25 yards for one of the best goals seen at Belle Vue in this season. The game was wrapped up on 73 minutes when Kirkaldie sent Jordan away down the right and he sent the ball over for Todd to hook a shot over the stranded Scales and make it 3-0. Rovers could perhaps have added more but nevertheless this had been a fine performance Jackie and an important win KIRKALDIE after the previous week’s disappointment.

BELLES
Midfielder Sophie Walton made her long awaited return to action at the weekend for the Belles development squad.
And she thanks the support of Emma Coates, her support staff and the squad for helping her return to training quicker than she expected.
The former Notts County player joined the Belles in January after leaving Meadow Lane in 2016 and has been working tirelessly to get back to fitness after giving birth to her first child last year.
She added: “I feel proud when I look at what I’ve gone through to get back to this standard: It’s not Dog and Duck.
And, after getting the all clear from the doctors to return to training, and weeks of intense work, Walton finally got her boots back on in Sunday’s 4-2 victory over Sheffield FC.

Sophie WALTON MAKES LONG AWAITED RETURN
Box Office: 01302 762576
She said: “It has been a long time coming. It has been well over 16 months and at times I wasn’t sure if I’d ever get there. I’m still a long way off getting back to where I was before I had my child but it was a good 25 minutes.” After such a long time away from playing, it would be understandable to feel a little worse for wear after returning to action but the midfielder says she’s raring to go again. She said: “I was okay afterwards, surprisingly. “I thought I’d feel a lot worse but I can already tell the difference. Hopefully a few more games under my belt and I’ll be ready to go.” Since arriving at the Belles in January, Walton has had the support of the entire club in her efforts to get fit again and she admits she’s proud of how far she’s come.
“It has taken a lot of hard work and help from everyone around me and hopefully I can now do well for the club. “If it wasn’t for the support I’ve had from Emma [Coates], Alex [Coleman], Stacey [Emmonds] and the girls I wouldn’t be back playing yet. “I’ve had to be patient at times and it’s been frustrating because I want to be playing and back to where I was but Emma has been really understanding with my situation and it’s been a big team effort. “Hopefully I’ll reap the rewards sooner rather than later for the first team. “The plan is now to build on the minutes I had last weekend with some more this weekend and then we’ll see where we’re at in terms of getting some game time for the first team, hopefully very soon. “It’s going to be a higher level at the first team though so it’s about steadily building it up so I’m 100% ready.”

Rovers Family Doncaster Rovers Supporters Club A good afternoon, and a warm welcome to the supporters of our near neighbours and fellow One Call sponsors Mansfield Town, who have made the short trip to the Keepmoat Stadium today. I hope they have a fantastic day with us , but let’s hope come 4.50pm, we will be celebrating promotion back to League One. The Stags should bring a good following to the game, so hopefully this will lead to a great atmosphere. Hopefully we will get a better result than we did in our last home game, where Plymouth ended our near year long home unbeaten record.

Enjoy the game, support the team Rovers till we die Paul Mayfield Viking Supporters Co-Operative Last month’s Meet the Owners event in the Legends‘ Lounge at The Keepmoat was the latest in a long line of events at DRFC that show that fan engagement at DRFC is certainly very much in the DNA of the club. The bi-annual Meet the Owners nights have always been well attended and (despite three relegations in the last five years and two failed takeover ids) in the main relatively enjoyable events where occasionally a golden nugget of information is given out by one of the top table and questions are asked by the fans that can result in changes by the club too. The concept of Meet the Owners, the formation of a Supporters’ Board, In Rovers We Trust, initial matchday atmosphere working groups which led the way for the creation of The Black Bank within the South Stand and catering working groups are merely the tip of the iceberg. Add to this the Supporters Club meetings scattered around our town where guest speakers or representatives from the club can be found in attendance, the work the Club Doncaster Foundation and Academy are doing in the Doncaster region communities and schools and there is a clear indication of how important growing the fan-base of DRFC is to the current owners, board and CEO. Bizarrely, it was only at the start of this season that new rules were put in place that meant clubs HAD to engage in structured dialogue with their fans – why do some clubs need telling they have to do this – surely it is simply just good practise to do this? Or are we just lucky? To join the supporters trust of DRFC email membership@drfc-vsc.co.uk, chairman@drfc-vsc.co.uk or secretary@drfc-vsc.co.uk or follow the links on Viking Chat. The VSC board
