Darren Ferguson Good afternoon, I’d like to welcome Derek Adams as well as the Plymouth supporters, players, staff and owners. Saturday’s win at Leyton Orient was an important one for us. We didn’t take them lightly, but were a bit too open to counter attacks in the first half which is how they scored to get back in the game. We were much more ruthless in the second half as we pushed for an important three points.

You continue to have an important part to play, today and for every remaining game of the season. Your backing in numbers on away trips has been fantastic, with more than 800 at Orient last Saturday, as has your patience when we have had to work hard to break teams down. With seven games to go after today, you can have as big a part in sealing promotion as any of the players. Thank you for your support, enjoy the game.

There is still plenty of football to be played, but we are exactly where we want to be at this point in the season. We are above that two point per game target we have been striving for all season, and know our destiny is in our own hands.

Today is another important game, and we know if we win we would be nine points clear of Argyle with seven games to go. We can feel confident after victories in our past three games, though we know the visitors will not make it easy for us.

Gavin Baldwin Good afternoon, and welcome back to the Keepmoat Stadium. I’d like to extend a warm welcome to the directors, supporters, players and staff who have made the long trip north – and wish them a safe journey home.

As the team continue to forge ahead at the top of League Two the owners have worked tirelessly with senior management team and, in turn, the Supporters Board to ensure prices have been frozen for all early bird purchases. For our loyal fanbase the club is offering all current season ticket holders the opportunity to receive a five per cent discount on their seasonal membership for 2017/18 when purchasing on the first week of sale from tomorrow.

We have introduced the brand-new DNA card, which launches in July. The card is stacked with hundreds of discounts with many local and national brands, including many well know high street brands. The card will be available for only £20 - if you purchase a Silver or Silver Membership you will be gifted the card, making your season membership even better value for money. The DNA brand is the next stage in the vision for Club Doncaster and Doncaster Rovers, building on existing community links as a club proud of its family values. The vision the owners have for Club Doncaster is really exciting, please join us on the journey as I can’t wait to see the plans become reality.

Gavin

This week I had the great honour of joining the first-team squad on a number of community visits – going to Thorne Primary School, Intake Community Centre, AFC Bentley and Retford United. Our players love doing community events, and we used it as a chance to reveal details of our season tickets for next season.

And that leads us on to what I feel is a very exciting development: fans aged 17 and under can purchase a seasonal silver membership (season ticket) for only £30. That works out at just £1.31 per game. New categories have also been created at 18-21 and 22-24 age groups. We want fans to stay on the journey with us, and we know it was not easy when people got to that age.

Men from across the Doncaster Borough have completely changed their lives with the help of Club Doncaster Foundation’s Fit Rovers – a free health and fitness programme based at the Keepmoat Stadium. The group have met for weekly interactive workshops and exercise sessions over the past eight weeks, with some incredible results. Confidentially weighed and measured at the start of the course, the group had by week lost a combined 13 stone, something CDF’s Scott Copeland is proud of. He said: “It’s amazing what you can achieve when you really work at something and these guys have taken everything we said on board and the results are clear. “Everything we do in the workshops is really interactive and it compliments the mixture of football and exercise sessions, so I think that’s the reason the guys have really bought into what we are trying to achieve. “It’s staggering really how much their health has improved – not only looking at the obvious signs like their weight loss, but their general health, stamina and mind set is incredible: we’re eliminating health risks such as diabetes. “I can’t wait for the next eight weeks to start and start seeing these changes in the next group of men.” The next eight week stint at the Keepmoat begins Thursday the March 23 and will again run the full course including visits from Doncaster Rovers first team players, added incentives such as sportswear and match tickets and the chance to dramatically improve your lifestyle in the heart of the Keepmoat Stadium. As well as the start of the second programme, the participants from the first still get the chance to get together for a game of football, through a brand new Fit Rovers Vets session held at the ground. Alongside the session will run a Retro Rovers walking football session and of course the second course of Fit Rovers, all starting on Thursday March 23. To find out more information or to book a place on the course, contact Scott Copeland on fitrovers@clubdoncasterfoundation.co.uk or 01302 764663.

COURSES BEING PROMOTED FOR next academic season

Recruitment has commenced for Club Doncaster Sports College’s next academic year with exciting numbers already filling up places.

An open evening was well attended on Thursday at the College to introduce future students to the experience they will receive while learning here at the Keepmoat stadium. Principal Adi Turnpenny is excited for the journey ahead. He said: “Courses are filling up well for next year as we look forward to increasing our numbers again, as we have done year upon year.

More than 140 students are enrolled at the college for the 2016/17 academic year, all completing vocational courses at state of the art facilities with some also taking on higher education courses at the college too. The college provides outstanding post 16 opportunities including Active IQ L2, which allows students to achieve a gym Instructor and/or personal trainer status.

The group also have access to specialised extra-curricular sessions ran by ex pros and the opportunity to play overseas football as well as play on the Keepmoat Stadium itself. Club Doncaster Sports College would also like to welcome partner college Selby College as guests at the game today; we hope you enjoy the atmosphere! For more information about the courses on offer, feel free to attend the next open evening drop in session at the Keepmoat Stadium on Tuesday April 25 from 4:30-6pm. Alternatively, contact Adi on adi.turnpenny@clubdoncasterfoundation.co.uk / 01302 764663.

09 Box Office: 01302 762576

“Our learner surveys show students are really enjoying the courses we provide and the results achieved are further evidence of this.”

A BTEC Level 3 course is also on offer to students, which creates a pathway into higher education or, alternatively, a traineeship, which is a work experience programme based around Doncaster Rovers and its partners.

Tommy ROWE Tommy Rowe believes he is playing some of the best football of his career, and that can only be good news for Doncaster Rovers. The midfielder has hit 12 goals this season, with three in his past six games a key part of the recent run which has seen Rovers strengthen their position at the top of the Sky Bet League Two table. “Every season as a midfielder or defender – you see Frenchy and Buts popping up with a few - it is important to chip in,” he says. “I’ve always kept personal targets close to my

in that area. “This season was a big year. I wanted to prove I could score goals after a couple of seasons of low numbers, – so far it has been my best season and I just hope I can continue it and push on.” The success of the game means Rovers are six points ahead of today’s opponents at the top of the table, 17 clear of fourth, and know promotion is there for the taking. Supporters have been busy working out the permutations for what that elevation could be mathematically confirmed, but the players are not looking too far ahead. “Nothing has really changed, we analyse each game win or lose and know the points we need to acquire,” says Tommy. “Nothing really changes with our approach after a win, or two or three wins. We are just keeping going about our business the way we have been doing, keep working hard and there’s no reason to change anything.

Everything happens for a reason, the way we are as a team we purposefully analyse every game to improve. That’s been a big thing for us this season – each game, win or lose, we have improved. “That togetherness is one of the main reasons why we

Captain Luke McCormick is into his second spell with Plymouth Argyle, after re-joining the Pilgrims in 2013. The goalkeeper progressed through the Academy side at Home Park where the top stopper was handed a professional deal in 2000, but did not break into the first team squad until 2003/04 season as a back up to Romain Larrieu. McCormick stepped into the Frenchman’s place after Larrieu sustained a cruciate knee ligament injury, he would go onto to break a long-standing Argyle record, keeping seven clean sheets in a row.

Irishman Graham Carey joined the Pilgrims at the start of the 2015/16 season and was instrumental in the sides attempt to get promoted to Sky Bet League One. His impressive performances along with his 12 goals in 46 appearances earned him Plymouth’s Player of the Year award in his debut season and he will be undoubtedly looking to add to his collection once again this season. After moving from League of Ireland side Shelbourne in 2005 to join SPL outfit Celtic, Carey was included in the 18 that were due to face Rapid Vienna in the Europa League, he would come on as a substitute in that match which would finish 3-3. During his time at Celtic Park he would be loaned out to fellow Scottish Premier League side St Mirren, League of Ireland champions Bohemians and at-the-time League One side Huddersfield Town. He decided to stay up in Scotland and join former loan side St Mirren, before moving onto Ross County, Carey left in 2015 to join Derek Adam’s Plymouth Argyle.

MIDFIELD MAESTRO

10 | GRAHAM CAREY

Born in Glasgow, Derek Adams spent majority of his professional playing career in the Scottish Football League. After coming through the youth system at Aberdeen, he was handed a professional contract at the start of the 1992/1993 season, however the midfielder would not go onto make any appearances for the Dons during his four year stay. Adams briefly spent time with Burnley before heading back up to Scotland to join Ross County, he was an instant hit at the Staggies and later in his managerial career he could become a club legend. He would also play for the likes of Ayr United, Motherwell and Livingston before retiring with Ross County in 2009 to concentrate on his managerial career with the Staggies. In his final season at Victoria Park he would lead the side to the Scottish Cup Final, on their way to the final they would see off the likes of SPL giants Celtic and Hibernian. But the fairy tale came to an end as they lost 3-0 in the final to Dundee United. Adams has also been an assistant manager at Hibernian under Colin Calderwood before returning to Ross County in 2011, he did not join Plymouth until June 2015.

15 | SONNY BRADLEY

DEFENSIVE ROCK Defender Sonny Bradley signed for Argyle at the start of the season and he has arguably been one of the player’s of the season for Derek Adams side. The 6ft 4inch centre-back progressed through the youth ranks at local side Hull City before making his way through the ranks to join the Tigers first team in 2013. Before making his debut for Hull, Bradley spent two seasons on loan with various different clubs, first of all joining Conference North side Harrogate Town, then Swedish side IK Frej before linking up with Aldershot Town on two occasions.

Bradley spent two seasons at Crawley before moving to Home Park.

2 4

25-year-old Jake Jervis spent the first two seasons as life as a professional footballer on loan with a handful of non-league and football league clubs. Turning out for sides such as Carlisle United, Hereford United twice, Notts County, Preston North End, Portsmouth, Swindon Town and Tranmere Rovers. After leaving Birmingham, Jervis headed to Turkey to sign for Elazigspor who were near the bottom of the Super Lig at-the-time, he was included in the starting XI that faced Turkish giants Fenerbahce and it was a perfect start for the Englishman. He opened the scoring in the game which would see Elazigspor earn an unlikely 2-2 draw, it was a short stay for Jervis as he broke his foot after four games in Turkey, which ended his stay and he chose to move back to England. The striker decided to join to Portsmouth until the end of the 2013/14 season before moving onto play for Ross County and he would eventually sign for Plymouth at the start of the 2015/16 campaign.

He pulled on the red and white hooped shirt 36 times during his time at the club and found the back of the net against Leyton Orient at the Keepmoat Stadium, all before a knee injury cut short his time at Rovers.

Houghton has previously played for Gillingham and our visitor this afternoon Plymouth Argyle, the midfielder made 10 league appearances for the Pilgrims and scored one goal during his time at Home Park.

Tommy TYNAN

LEGEND, WHERE ARE THEY NOW

Striker Tommy Tynan is widely renowned as a club legend to Plymouth Argyle fans after signing for the Pilgrims on three separate occasions. He was part of the side that reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup, he scored the goal which beat top flight West Brom Albion before Argyle went onto beat Derby County in the quarter finals, but they could not overcome Watford. At the end of the 1984/85 season Tynan was the joint top goalscorer in all four English divisions before leaving to join Rotherham United, that move would only last a season, which saw him move back to Home Park briefly on a loan spell before heading back on a permanent transfer. In his last season as a professional football, he joined Doncaster Rovers, turning out 11 times and finding the net just once. Tynan is now a taxi driver in Plymouth.

Hello everyone, Welcome to our game against Plymouth Argyle who have been not far behind us in the table. It will be an interesting game, but one that we have all been looking forward to. The cameras are here so we should make plenty of noise. At the Notts County game I had a photo taken with five- year-old Hayley and this is what her Dad said: “Her name is Hayley Curry; she is 5 and has an unbeaten record watching Rovers so far! Her Grandad is Peter Curry, he's 66 years old, and unfortunately doesn’t have the same record after watching Rovers for over 50 years!” Thank you Rick for the photo and it is always nice that the loyalty continues through the generations.

Enjoy the game!

It goes without saying that the Keepmoat Stadium has become something of a fortress for us this season, with our imperious home form maintaining an unbeaten record in the league. The majority of our games have been noticeable for the manner in which teams have attempted to come and shut up shop in the hope of keeping us out, a fair tactic with every team in the league desperate for points.

Two battles will be fought on the day, with both teams having a keen eye on promotion first but then secondly the fight to the take top honours and be crowned champions in May. Today’s Match Sponsor Keid Consulting is a Doncaster based recruitment business that has been put together to provide a personal service to everyone in the job market. Understanding the frustrations of job seekers and hiring managers, Keid Consulting set up the business to make things as easy as possible for everyone concerned. Joining them as associate match sponsor is JP Walton and Son Transport Ltd, one of South Yorkshire's fastest growing independent transport companies.

Match Sponsor Cromwell Tools received a signed framed shirt from their Man of the Match Matty Blair

They provide a range of haulage, distribution and logistic services for a wide range of industries throughout England, Scotland and Wales. The Doncaster-based company is dedicated to managing the ever changing nature of customers’ business in order to ensure provision of flexible, reliable and cost-effective road transport services. As we approach the end of the season, we are understandably extremely busy across a number of areas, one of those being the organisation of our Player of the Year Awards 2017. The event will be held once again at the Keepmoat Stadium on Sunday, April 30th (Bank Holiday) providing a great opportunity to join the players and thank them for their hard work this season. Seats are available from £50 + vat per person to include a luxurious three course meal, awards ceremony, disco and dancing till late with a black tie dress code. With five under 16s in the squad (three in the starting XI), Rovers recovered from an untidy first 15 minutes to produce a comfortable performance on a difficult playing surface. Rovers took the lead midway through the first half following very good work from Rieves Boocock who went past a defender before squaring for fellow under 16 player Brandon Horton to finish emphatically. The remainder of the first half saw a dominant performance from the youngsters with Cody Prior, Jacob Fletcher and Matty Overton all coming close to extending the lead. The challenge set out at half-time from Paul Stancliffe, John Schofield and Kieran Scarff was to find a way to maintain the level of dominance without losing concentration. Matty Overton made the score 2-0 with an outstanding finish, a curling left footed shot from 20 yards in to the top corner. Further opportunities were created to make the scoreline more comfortable but Rovers saw the game out comfortably. The youth team are back in action when they host Grimsby Town in the Youth Alliance League on Saturday April 1 (KO 11am).

Kieran SCARFF Across the whole football club we are busy preparing for next season’s Academy EPPP audit. As I have previously said there are exciting times and plans ahead. The profile of our Academy through this audit process is going to be very important in the development of these plans.

All our departments now have clear key performance indicators. Their progress alongside these targets is monitored every week and then discussed at monthly meetings before formal updates are provided to our Technical Board, that includes Gavin Baldwin and Darren Ferguson, every two months. I also provide reports for the owners who also take a real interest in the development of the Academy.

We have also introduced a formal succession plan that shows potential player progression. This will help drive our work as we strive to produce more players for our first team. With the vision and drive of the first team manager in relation to producing and ultimately playing our academy graduates we should ensure a high level of productivity from Academy to first team, Good luck to the gaffer, the staff and players this afternoon.

45 Box Office: 01302 762576

The basis of our work is our Academy Performance Plan which will cover seven key areas and long with our policies and procedures will form a huge document.

With the level of investment into our Academy, the creation and monitoring of these targets are extremely important as they provide a real structure to what we are aiming to do – produce players for our first team. So many people work very hard and professionally within our Academy and they will all provide excellent input through the audit process.

THE RECORD BREAKERS: DONCASTER ROVERS 70 YEARS AGO. Part 19 - By John Coyle

50 Box Office: 01302 762576

Doncaster Rovers had emerged from the hectic Easter programme in pretty good shape, having taken five points of a possible six from three games within the space of four days. They still retained a lead of 12 points over their only realistic challengers, Rotherham United, although they would have to travel to their South Yorkshire rivals later in April. On Saturday 12th April 1947 Rovers were at home to Lincoln City. There were three changes from the side that had triumphed 1-0 at Oldham on Easter Monday, Bill Lambton, Jim Wooldridge and Leslie Owens dropping out. Line up: Archie Ferguson; Harry Tomlinson Bill Corbett; Cecil Stirland, Sid Bycroft, Bob McFarlane; Jackie Kirkaldie, Jackie Thompson, Clarrie Jordan, Paul Todd, Ralph Maddison. A good crowd of 19,571 on a warm, sunny day witnessed a Rovers display that fell well below their normal standards. Lincoln controlled the game in midfield and with better finishing would have won. As it was Jordan put Rovers ahead against the run of play, but his goal was soon cancelled out when Hutchinson got the better of Bycroft and his shot hit a post and trickled into the net. The game finished 1-1 and Rotherham’s 3-0 home win over New

Brighton meant that the gap at the top was down to eleven points, with Rotherham having three games in hand. The calm approach of manager Jackie Bestall was invaluable to Rovers at times like these. Where others would have made THE GAFFER changes he kept faith in Jackie BESTALL his players, ensured they took full advantage of a week’s break and sent out an unchanged side a week later to face Southport at Haig Avenue. Rovers were soon in front. Maddison scoring with a sharp shot after six minutes, but thereafter they struggled to get a grip on the game. Ferguson Ralph was forced into a MADDISON number of saves as the home side took control of the game and searched for an equaliser. Rovers were relieved to be leading 1-0 at the interval, but they re-emerged a team transformed in the second half. Ten minutes in Jordan doubled the lead with a Archie fierce volley from 20 FERGUSON yards out that barely left the

There was further good news in store for Rovers when they reached the dressing room, for Rotherham had only managed a draw at Rochdale and the Clarrie JORDAN 12-point cushion had been restored. It also meant that a win at Millmoor a week later would all but deliver the Division Three (North) Championship to Doncaster. There was also cause for celebration for Clarrie Jordan. The centre-forward, playing his first season in League Football, now had 40 League goals, equalling the record set by Tom Keetley in 1928-29. Keetley’s overall total for that season, including Cups, had been

41, so Jordan’s two goals in the FA Cup meant he now held the overall record for the season. It had been a remarkable season for the coal miner from South Kirkby, and there were still five games to be played in a season that would stretch on into June. JOHN COYLE

ground. Two minutes later he surely settled the result by making it 3-0 after McFralane’s quick throw-in found Todd who passed inside to the centre-forward. Paul TODD Kirkaldie made it 4-0 and with two minutes to go a splendid goal from Todd completed the victory. McFarlane fed Maddison who made a run to the by-line and pulled the ball back for the Rovers’ skipper who smashed a volley past goalkeeper Birkett from 15 yards.

BELLES

The Belles routinely disposed of WSL 2 Spring Series leaders London Bees as goals from Courtney Sweetman-Kirk, Christie Murray and Emily Simpkins gave them a 4-1 victory.

Delicate interplay saw Simpkins link up with Sweetman-Kirk with the former hammering a sensational effort into the top corner from 30 yards.

The Belles were in charge from the off with Murray excellently chesting down before firing over from just six yards, but it wasn’t long until striker Sweetman-Kirk put the Belles in front with a superb back-heel which clipped the post on the way in.

Moments later, Sweetman-Kirk managed to bag her third in two games. Maz Pacheco’s blistering run down the left hand side found the striker in acres of space in the penalty area and she tapped in from 6 yards out.

Coates' side were efficient at the back throughout and were limiting the Bees to long range efforts that caused no bother for goalkeeper Nicky Davies.

Box Office: 01302 762576

Murray then came close on several occasions for the Belles, including a number of chances blocked on the line, but finally bagged her first Belles goal after Kirsty Hanson who selflessly squared the ball for a tap-in after cutting in superbly from the left. Opportunities then came thick and fast for the Belles in the latter stages of the game. Sweetman-Kirk looked to add to her tally after rounding Sophie Harris in the Bees’ net but a defender managed to squirm the ball behind for a corner.

Back-to-back clean sheets for Emma Coates’ side was close but a sublime free kick from Bees’ biggest threat Emma Beckett found the top corner, the ball clipping the inside of the post on the way in. The Belles will next be in action at the Keepmoat on Sunday 16th April to take on Durham Women.

Viking Supporters Co-Operative Two things sprang to mind at Leyton Orient last weekend. Firstly, it is becoming increasingly obvious to all concerned that we find ourselves in pole-position in the league, flying high and looking like (fingers crossed) we’ll be promoted back to League One within the next few weeks. Hopefully DRFC will then be pushing on for the title. Without putting our head over the parapet to be shot at – it really would appear that the current board, manager, players and (dare I say it) supporters are beginning to believe it’s now a case of when as opposed to if it happens. We are on an upward curve again. Secondly, sadly and perhaps more importantly in the greater scheme of things, the O’s really find themselves in a horrible situation. By the time this article has been read, it will be clearer as to what future holds for this proud club. It was incredibly refreshing to see the Rovers fans adding to the ‘Regeneration Fund’ collection boxes at the Matchroom Stadium. Leyton Orient Fans’ Trust (LOFT) are of the belief that the debt incurred by their club to HMRC (believed to be in the region of £125,000-250,000) is only the tip of the iceberg. LOFT have collected circa £60,000 to help the club service these debts. Wouldn’t it be nice if a world superstar on thousands of pounds a week forewent his wages just for a fortnight to help keep the smaller fish alive? The VSC board
