Livestock based on friendly farming

D

anish cattle farmers are enthusiasts. They follow the production philosophy they care about and believe in. We can therefore offer a wide range of different products as organic meat, GMO-free fed beef and conventional quality meat.

We supply Danish Veal, derived from dairy production in Denmark, of a very high quality, with a light, tender and delicate taste. The calves are fed for 8-10 months until they are perfect for consumption.

Start producing milk

To produce Dansk Kalv TM (Danish Veal) we have introduced a quality program with focus on animal welfare. Calves are fed raw milk, coarse feed and are regularly inspected by a veterinarian. They move around freely, have extra space, an extra layer of deep litter and always access to lie down. Production is inspected by Baltic Control, an external auditing body, who ensures that conditions live up to the requirements for Dansk Kalv TM.

One of the world’s most climate friendly beef producers

I

n Denmark cattle farming is closely linked to dairy production. Meat products from dairy cows and veal make up most Danish Crown Beef’s production. When a dairy cow ends its milking period, it becomes an ideal and delicious food product for use in everyday cooking. In other words, Danish dairy cows provide great food products throughout their entire life. They are bred with efficient resource management and a well-integrated animal welfare programme using a minimum

of antibiotics. And transport time to the abattoir is short – on average 2.5 hours*. These are some of the reasons why the climate impact of Danish beef is one of the lowest in the world. That is why it makes such good sense to choose beef from Denmark. *Transport time to the abattoir is a calculated average based on an average distance of 85 km from farms to our abattoirs.

13,9 Kg CO2 /Kg

Denmark

All cattle produce methane gas during their digestive process. Danish cattle have an average CO2 emission of 13.9 per kilo, which is low compared to beef from many other countries. However, the CO2 emission from a Danish dairy cow is lower when calculated per delivered meal.

While some cattle are bred only for meat, Danish dairy cows deliver milk, cheese and yoghurt during their entire lifetime, as well as veal and in the end high quality meat. That is why Danish beef is climate effective.

Besides the important contribution to food production, Danish Crown Beef cattle deliver leather (used for car interiors, clothing and bags), ingredients for medicines and pet food, and biogas. Substantial research is carried on exploring even more ways to make use of the by-products.

Highly skilled butchering

D

anish Crown Beef adds value to the product in the final stage of friendly farming. When the cattle arrive at the abattoir, our skilled butchers classify them into different qualities to get the most out of each. Some cattle are better suited for minced meat, and others for steaks and roasts. The result of this process is a better quotation to the farmers and provides better meat for consumers.

Farmer and cattle

We produce high quality beef of all sorts for home and export markets. Meats such as dry-aged, burgers, steaks, roasts, fresh convenience, exclusive veal, etc. We strive to meet the needs of the consumers.

Together for a sustainable future

F

riendly Farming is not static. It is a movement through every step in the value chain from farm to food. Butchers and farmers working together for a sustainable future.

We are in open dialogue with the world. We seek input from NGOs and our customers, and we carry on an open dialogue with end users on social media to understand and meet consumer needs.

We are aware of the climate dilemma associated with beef production. But Danish beef has already taken large steps towards sustainable production. Much more will be done together with our customers, experts, scientists and of course Danish Crown farmers in the years to come. We are already supporting research to reduce the methane emissions from cattle.

We are proud of our achievements, but we know we can do even better. That is why we are constantly looking for new ways of getting more out of less and adding more value to our products.

18

Friendly farming, together for a sustainable future

Let’s work together for a sustainable future.

Friendly Farming is an open dialogue with the world. Our farmers operate in close contact with consumers, chefs, experts and opinion leaders as we try to improve our products and production at Danish Crown Beef.
