Inspired by Italo Calvino's Invisible Cities, this project utilizes Self-Organizing Maps (SOM) to design a dialogue system between two artificial intelligences: Kublai Khan, who represents order and governance through top-down theoretical texts, and Marco Polo, who represents complexity and diversity through grassroots perspectives.

ACTIONS:['FLYING KITE, BUILDING CABINET, BUILDING SHED'] CITY CATEGORY:['MINING FACILITY']

The ongoing debate between these personas is conceptualized as an urban archetype highlighting continuous conflict and contradiction, which serves as a foundation for contextualizing Istanbul's dynamics within broader urban typologies.   Invisible City In-Between functions as both a platform for translating theoretical concepts into spatial forms and a venue for investigating the shifting dynamics that shape urban environments.

SHOWCASE : RENOVATION DESIGN FOR HÜRREM SULTAN BATH

[INPUT TEXT] - AN ABSTRACT DESCRIPTION FROM DESIGNER

Within the bath's embrace, society's chains release, Naked souls converge, societal walls find peace. Class and status fade, in vulnerability's glow, Hamam unites hearts, a glimpse of harmony we know.

[REPLACED TEXT] - A DESIGNER-SELECTED CONFLICT TEXTS

[Polo]lass inequality is further jettisoned by a section entitled ‘Gentrification in General Equilibrium’ which smoothes over dislocation and smooches policy with the following: Gentrification might create job opportunities for low-status households, or relocate existing opportunities for lowstatus households, or relocate existing opportunities into areas more accessible to them.[1]

[Khan]Open spaces in a community can help guide the location of new parks and open spaces in a community.[2]

[Khan]Bike Racks As more communities seek to make their streets Bicycle-friendly, it is critical to provide adequate bike racks throughout major activity centers.[2]

[Polo]What Tahrir Square showed to the world was an obvious truth: that it is bodies on the street and in the squares, not the babble of sentiments on Twitter or Facebook, that really matter. [3]

Group Rework on Individual Graduation Project

In the UK, shops significantly outnumber public institutions, reflecting consumerism's dominance in daily life (Koolhaas, 2001). Privatization of public spaces has marginalized vulnerable groups, pushing them to the fringes. The development of London’s Olympic parks and the Westfield shopping centre in Newham exacerbated this trend, transforming communal areas into commercial zones. With Westfield now in decline, reclaiming and demolishing it could restore shared public space and revive Newham's communal essence.

Pictorial Space, the illusory depth in two-dimensional art, evolved from 14th-century serial narratives like Barnaba da Modena’s Adoration of the Child, progressing to polyptychs and culminating in 15th-century illusionism with linear and aerial perspectives. Inspired by Giotto’s layered spatial techniques, These collages highlight rough sleepers immobilization by the city, reflecting the tension between visibility and exclusion.

Lian Hua Temple - Hall and Corridor

Interior Design

Under Construction

Location: Wuhan, China

Design Date: Feb 2022 to Sep 2022

Office: ONTOGENESIS Design

Tool: Rhino / Grasshoppers / Adobe Suits / AutoCAD / Enscape

The Lotus ( Lianhua) Temple is an old temple located on Guanyin Island, Xun Lake, Wuhan. The abbot wishes to break away from the traditional Buddhist temple style and create a new environment that can appeal to young people. In this project, we connected Buddhist concepts with the cosmos, using materials, forms, and light to shape the Buddhist idea of infinity—where one is everything, both infinitely complex and yet ultimately simple. The design went through several iterations. Although the final solution was simplified due to budget constraints, the process itself demonstrates the philosophy of Buddhism: the profound simplicity and the concept of "form is emptiness, and emptiness is form.

Year 2 project

Individual Design

Tutor: Anthony Hogger

Tool: Sketchup / AutoCAD / Adobe Suits

The project focuses on translating the needs of homeless individuals into architectural language. Each group has distinct requirements, which are expressed through narratives conveyed in architectural forms. These narratives are woven into unique spatial stories that reflect the specific desires of each group. The site is organized into four housing types, with family units positioned near the entrance and single units situated further inside.

Wenshu Monastery

Location: Sichuan, China

Design Date: Feb 2021 to Jun 2021

Office: Kengo Kuma & Associates

Tool: Rhino / Grasshoppers / Adobe Suits / AutoCAD / Enscape

Inspired by the Buddhist concept of “Circle Reflecting Alpha Wisdom,” this project uses the circular form as a starting point and reinterprets the traditional Chinese dougong structure in a modern way. The elliptical shape of the museum softens its boundary, allowing visitors to access the building from multiple directions. Landscaping elements are introduced on-site to create a strong connection between the temple and the museum. By integrating the northern landscape of the temple and surrounding roads, the design encourages visitor flow from all directions. A belt around the layered structure adds visual interest and cohesion, enhancing harmony with the environment.

"City hall" the Apartment

Location: Shanghai, China

Design Date: Oct 2021 to Dec 2021

Tool: Rhino / Adobe Suits / Enscape

Longchang Apartment, built in 1920, faces obsolescence. Residents form one side of an architectural negotiation, representing their needs. Inspired by Heath Robinson, "architectural negotiation" allows conflicti ng demands to coexist. The Apartment serves as the "architectural body" for residents, while vougers require a performance-driven prototype.
