Consequences of Substance Abuse

When someone is greatly influenced by drugs, it could lead to an addiction that may destroy everything you have from the start. The relationships, opportunities, and job are at risk because you've been trapped in the arms of the friend (drugs) you thought would make your life better.Consequently, it doesn't turn out to be the way you knew. You are left with no one beside you.You are all alone.Being dependent on drugs isn't the sole effect of using it, other consequences are likely to follow that you may not recognize.

HEALTH RISKS The physical looks of an addicted individual, unlike his/her normal look, can be seen with a big difference. With the loss of appetite, they are prone to be malnourished. The immune system is weak from the moment you are high and infections are likely to be developed. The effects don't just harm our body but our way of thinking as well. The processes within our brain rapidly change because of drug intake. The reward circuit of our brain is being hijacked causing the creation of large amounts of a neurotransmitter called dopamine to the system. The user now becomes high or has the feeling of euphoria.Behavioral problems like aggressiveness, hallucinations, loss of selfcontrol and insomnia can also maneuver which is significantly different from a normal human being.

SOCIAL RELATIONSHIPS DECLINE The primary relationship that is actually lost is the family. As the home is the place where we live, interactions are usually gained from it.In case, one becomes addicted, consultation with a family member is never their choice. They tend to get help from drugs and neglect the family. When it comes to the workplace, they are likely to lose their job because they can't function well on their tasks. We know that a person under the influence of drugs is impatient and violent. This could signal a trouble with a co-worker and in the work area. The individual's friends or peers are also replaced with addicted people because he/she can clearly get along with them.

POSSIBLE BIRTH DEFECTS

A pregnant woman could only take prescribed drugs because doctors are knowledgeable on which is safe for the future mom and the baby. But what if the woman is under drug abuse? The possibility of developing a defect on the baby is greatly high.Statistics shows that about 4% of pregnant women in the US use drugs. The percentage is pretty alarming and the government should have a resolution on minimizing this number to avoid pregnancy deaths.
