Taught traditional flute as a child by his grandfather in Uganda, Samite Mulondo went on to study western flute and is now known the world over as an acclaimed flutist and humanitarian. He will perform “Lessons of Humanity: What My Grandfather Taught Me,” his solo show of stories and music illustrating the resilience of the human spirit and the fundamental truth that we are all the same. Samite has released ten internationally distributed CDs and has scored and appeared in acclaimed films. In 2002, Samite founded Musicians for World Harmony, an organization that enables global musicians to promote peace, understanding, and harmony among people.
The North Shore Music Association hosts its 29th Annual Bluegrass Masters Weekend at beautiful Lutsen Resort, featuring workshops with master fiddler Dan Kelly and a concert by Michael & Jennifer McClain & the Banjocats. It’s a lively weekend in a relaxed setting where all are welcome. Performing classic bluegrass music, Michael & Jennifer McLain and band have performed in 27 states, from New York to California, and have appeared on the Grand Ole Opry, The Nashville Network, Country Music Television, NPR, and the PBS show “Song of the Mountains.” Growing up, Michael performed with the legendary McLain Family Band.

Hosted every fall at Pincushion Mountain in Grand Marais, the Sawtooth Mountain Challenge is the North Shore’s first mountain bike race. It has been run for over 25 years and has taken different shapes, but it now functions as the main fundraiser for the Superior Cycling Association’s trail maintenance fund.
