Experience the George Morrison “Connections” Exhibit One of the nation’s greatest modernist artists and a founding figure of Native American modernism, Grand Portage’s George Morrison was honored by the United States Postal Service by dedicating a set of five Forever Stamps featuring Morrison’s artwork in April 2022. Morrison was a world renowned artist and visionary who was born in Chippewa City outside of Grand Marais in 1919 and grew up with the beauty of Lake Superior as a backdrop. Through his art, he shared this landscape with the world. He is best known for his abstract landscapes and monumental wood collages, which draw on childhood memories and reflect a deep and abiding connection with the natural world. In celebration of the USPS George Morrison stamps, Grand Portage National Monument invites you to enjoy the world of George Morrison with the “Connections” exhibit. For this exhibit, the National Park Service has gathered works in their collection, along with works and artifacts from private collections, to curate the exhibition, which will run through October 23. George Morrison “Connections” Exhibit Grand Portage National Monument Heritage Center, 170 Mile Creek Road, Grand Portage, MN Exhibit open April 22-Oct. 23, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. every day.
