Motor Maids
The 24th Annual Parked Motorcycle Syndrome (PMS) was held this year in Williamsburg, VA on February 4th, 5th and 6th. This event has been hosted by Glennadine Gouldman for the last 24 years. There were 36 Motor Maids from North and South Carolina, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and of course Virginia and West Virginia who attended. Motor Maids started arriving Friday afternoon and after getting settled into their rooms, everyone congregated into the party room for stories, card games and a lot of fun. Gloria Struck and Lorie DeSilva made the drive from New Jersey. We enjoyed listening to Gloria as she told us her stories of her many adventures of riding across the country. Saturday morning everyone went their different ways exploring Williamsburg shops and the surrounding areas. It’s hard to say where everyone went but one stop that we made was at the Christmas Mouse. This entire store is decorated for Christmas. There were so many Christmas trees with different styles of ornaments and lights for all occasions. We also made a stop at Whitley’s Peanut Factory. Whitley’s is famous for their “Home Cooked” peanuts, but we found our way to the back of the store where there were different peanut confections. I do believe that all of us walked out of the store with chocolate covered peanuts. We also visited the General Store and Wallace’s Trading Post. A few of the Ladies went to Colonial Williamsburg where costumed re-enactors walked around town greeting the visitors. Horse drawn carriages were seen going up and down the streets to the delight of guests enjoying the historic buildings and living history of the town. Glennadine, Jeanne and Krissa went to Newport News to visit with Rick and Patti, who took care of Helen Kiss Main who was one of the original charter members. I also heard that the Jersey girls found a Midnight Bingo near Williamsburg to enjoy for the night. Everyone made it back Saturday night to enjoy the cake that was made for the 24th Annual PMS and to enjoy snacks of all kinds. While walking around I noticed a few interesting variances of UNO card games and it sounded like some singing was coming from some of the other tables. There was a 50/50 drawing that Tammy Barber won and donated back to the district. Jeanne Deak won the quilt that Linda Meeks had made for the quilt raffle and several other gifts were given away to lucky ticket holders. In closing, our PMS event brings members from several Districts to enjoy the shared camaraderie of one important thing; we are all Motor Maids, we all ride motorcycles and we all enjoy meeting up and having a good time with friends. Glennadine also wants everyone to remember that next year is the 25th Anniversary of our PMS event and everyone is welcome to join us.
