D ante w as born in Florence, to the prominent Alighieri family. H is studies focused on rhetoric, gram mar, philosophy, literature and theology. H e w as one of the first authors to w rite in the vernacular Tuscan and thus had a defining effect on w hat Italian is today.
H e met B eatrice Portinari, at the age of nine, w hom he fell deeply in love w ith. U nfortunately, w hen D ante w as tw elve he w as prom ised to another w oman, G em ma di M anetto D onati, and so B eatrice married someone else. D ante’s relationship w ith B eatrice existed purely in his mind, although he m et B eatrice briefly after his marriage. She sadly died w hen D ante w as tw enty five. N onetheless B eatrice played an incredibly important role in his poetry, and in his masterpiece “The D ivine Comedy”, D ante attributed all the heavenly virtues to her soul and imagined that she w as his guardian angel leading him on his search for salvation.
An homage to the literal genius w hose w orks are still read to this day, “D ante” is a restaurant of old Italy overflow ing w ith the essence of Tuscany and Florence. Traditional Flavors using traditional ingredients.
