Protecting Door County’s Exceptional Lands and Waters...Forever

Join us for a Year of Discovery! Registration begins May 29.

Three Springs Nature Preserve Stretching along the eastern shores of Door County lays the Door Peninsula Coastal Wetlands, a site designated as internationally significant by the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands. One of only 38 sites in the US bearing this designation, these protected lands are the focus of this year’s BioBlitz. Conservation partners will work together to document the species found here—gathering the necessary data to show conservation successes and the impact of our changing world.

As the days shorten and the temperatures cool, Door County’s forests transform into a wonderland of fall color. For those who know where to look, like hike leader and mushroom expert Charlotte Lukes, the appearance of ephemeral and mysterious fungi can be a spectacle rivaling the famed spring wildflower bloom. Trails are moderately challenging, with inclines coming up from the lake.

See why the nearby Newport State Park has been designated a ‘Dark Sky Park.’ Join us for an unforgettable evening as we tour northern Door’s night sky looking at galaxies, nebula, globular and open clusters, and constellations. We’ll be using state of the art telescopes for this deep sky tour. Proceeds from this event will be donated to Newport State Park’s Dark Sky astronomy programs.

Listen to the cacophony of sounds as hundreds of sandhill cranes gather at sunset on property protected by a Door County Land Trust conservation easement. This pond attracts hundreds of cranes that gather each night after feeding all day in neighboring fields. The property is a safe haven before these beauties migrate south. The location is on a private property, and directions will be provided in a confirmation letter.
