Advocating for Door County’s Workforce
By Phil Berndt, Director of Advocacy, Destination Door County
Destination Door County continues to collaborate with Door County Economic Development Corporation and regional partners to strengthen our workforce.
This spring we launched a workforce recruitment campaign that directed people to JobsInDoorCounty.com that utilized Google prospecting ads and used NEAR (a platform that allows us to geo-fence using location data) to target regional colleges, universities, and job fairs to expose individuals looking for work to the opportunities we have available in Door County.
JobsInDoorCounty.com is a community-based online resource we created to make it easier for employers and job seekers to find each other – and there is no charge to use it. We continue to review and improve the ease and functionality of the site and offer search and filter tools to help you find the perfect match. For example, you can search for jobs that offer housing options; off-season positions for those returning to a seasonal job, and more. Visit the site to sign up and start using it to help with any of your workforce recruitment needs.
J-1 Summer Work Travel – Our efforts to restore our international student exchanges are paying off as program participation is bouncing back stronger than ever, with a record number of Summer Work Travel applicants (535+) holding job offers for their summer program in Door County. Many of these students are still waiting for visa approvals, so that number will change.
Giving Back, By Helping Out - We are hearing from grateful employers who have found retired year-round and seasonal residents willing to work a few hours each week, to give back to the community they love so much by helping bridge workforce needs – while taking advantage of the opportunity to get out and forge new friendships. If this sounds interesting to you, please don’t hesitate to ask your favorite business owner if they could use a little help now and again. Your help could make all the difference in their world – and yours.
