STRAIN OF THE MONTH
ROYAL KUSH RK8 PROVIDED BY KUSH COMFORT FARMS
TESTED BY: TRACE ANALYTICS
AVAILABLE AT • SATIVA SISTERS • SATORI
GENETICS This gem is a most sought after hybrid — and Royal Kush indeed belongs in the upper echelon of bud strains. A perfectly crafted descendant of Afghani and Skunk #1, Royal Kush brings out the best of both worlds with each euphoric toke.
EFFECTS
Earthy tones dominate, while a very distinctive hoppy note is present. Any beer lover will instantly recognize the strong IPA citrus smell. If a candle smelled as good as this strain, I would buy forty of them.
THERAPEUTIC BENEFITS
With an effect that goes straight to the head, this is an instant stress reliever for many with strong relaxing properties. This strain also lacks the severe stony side effects like cottonmouth and the munchies.
AROMA
14.43% THC
This strain could be best suited for patients with anxiety, insomnia, or stress. Royal Kush delivers an even keeled high that puts worried minds at ease and allows you to drift off into total relaxation.
LOOKS
FLAVOR A sweet and hoppy cloud sits at the back of your throat, followed by a bursting citrus endnote. The taste of grapefruit on inhale is mellow yet distinctive, and the smooth and earthy flavor pleasantly lingers after exhale.
Kush Comfort Farms did well; this hardpacked and extremely dense bud made me fall in love at first glance. Specks of burgundy glimmer under a blanket of sticky white trichomes, making it look like it is dusted with sugar.

JET SHATTER - SWEET AS! CANNABIS PROVIDED BY ROYALS CANNABIS
TESTED BY: TRACE ANALYTICS
AVAILABLE AT • SATIVA SISTERS • SATORI
GENETICS This high-octane strain is a cross between Aspen OG and High Country Diesel, making it a highly sought after sativa-dominant strain. Created by 303 Seeds, this is one of the mostrenowned diesel strains available.
AROMA Like many shatters, the smell can be fleeting, but upon the initial toke, a fruity aroma fills the air followed by lingering grassy goodness. As the name would suggest, an unmistakable fuel-like scent also permeates.
EFFECTS
77.7% THC
THERAPEUTIC BENEFITS
Prepare for lift-off. Shortly after the first inhale, a pleasant body high relaxed my muscles followed by an energy that was perfectly balanced with relaxation. This has a nice functional effect with minimal grogginess.
FLAVOR
This strain is sought after by many with chronic pain, and for alleviating sore muscles or tension after a workout. After the initial jolt of energy, it mellows into relaxation, making it a great option for some in treating insomnia and anxiety.
LOOKS
Unlike the aroma, the flavor is void of any fuel-like taste. A pleasant citrus burst penetrates the taste buds, trailed by earth undertones that linger on the palette long after exhale.
Its caramel-colored reflective surface is so shiny it appears wet at first glance. This shatter resembles small bits of hardened sugar, broken apart in perfectly isometric pieces.

Elevating the Great Outdoors

T MAY BE BIAS TO SAY, but I believe Washington State is one of the greatest places in the continental US for outdoor adventure. Washingtonians have the ocean, rivers, glacial lakes, plateaus covered in protected shrub lands, one of the only temperate rainforests in the world, hectares of valleys covered in Ponderosa Pines, two major mountain ranges, and more. Have I exhausted you yet? Bottom line is that the diversity of our state’s geographical topography is bar none. Enter Winterlife Almonds. These bad boys contain 10mg of THC per serving, approximately 28g per package. Since we are innately drawn to the great outdoors, one can only assume we have a very intimate relationship with trail mix and hiking

boots. Although good trail mix is vital and must not be tampered with, Winterlife has discovered a way to make trail mix even better. The flavor is killer, a bit peppery with bursts of tamarind and smoky goodness, like roasted almonds with a bit of a kick. About an hour after consumption, a wave of euphoria flooded over me. These delicious almonds definitely give off a happy and invigorating high, which is perfect for getting the motivation to go outdoors. The creators of these truly Washingtonian edibles outdid themselves with a healthy snack full of omega-3s and highly nutritious proteins that can help folks conquer the ® mountain this winter.

OCATED IN SPOKANE VALLEY is one of Eastern Washington’s premier cannabis shops. Green Light’s owner Sonny Langdon and the store’s general manager Brandon Mulvey felt the name was appropriate as they join the entrepreneurial wave during this epic time in cannabis history. Having previously worked in the luxury vehicle business, Sonny blends the values he learned there with his passion for cannabis. He wants to provide cannabis consumers with the “ultimate product and customer service experience.” Although the taboos and clichés associated with the cannabis industry are hard to escape, these stereotypes will be broken and taboos will become social norms as the evolution of this industry takes place. Sonny wants to be a

part of that evolution by creating acceptance and professionalism in the industry. With a vast selection of high-CBD strains, flower, oils, and edibles, it’s hard to leave Green Light empty-handed. Both new visitors and regular customers reap hard-to-beat perks and discounts, including one for veterans, and a “customer appreciation Friday”. When I ask Sonny how he describes the ambiance of his store, he promptly says without hesitation, “It’s like showing up at your best friend’s house to try the best weed there is; it’s an adult candy store.” With a clean pro look, a great staff that knows their stuff, and a chill atmosphere, Green Light is destined to become a part of Spokane Valley’s evolution into the canna® bis-friendly age.

CANNANEWS
A MED CARD IN AN I-502 WORLD Adjusting to the Rec Landscape
A
LITTLE over a year ago there were three markets to purchase your cannabis from: the medical, the recreational, and of course the less talked about friendly neighborhood dealer. Since Washington State Governor Jay Inslee has signed a bill that will eventually overhaul and reconcile the recreational and medical cannabis markets into one, state residents who have medical marijuana cards are up in arms. People’s and patients’ bud is now going to cost more, with a shortage of familiar signs bearing

ISSUE 05 THE DOPEST ISSUE dopemagazine.com
the bright green cross soon to come. It is easy to see why Washington State wants to rid itself of the medical cannabis market. The recreational market generated close to $169 million in tax revenue last year, and many have speculated that they only tapped into 3-5% of the potential market. The medical cannabis market is not subject to the same high tax burden or highly regulated legislation that the recreational market is, which requires stringent testing and guidelines for growing, which can be costly.
WRITER
“Once July 2016 rolls around, medical cannabis patients will notice a large shift away from the liberal allowances that were once granted by the State.”
• JESS JAMISON
Therefore the cost of medical bud is a lot cheaper. If the palpable force behind this merger of markets is a monetary one, there are some ways this overhaul could make sense. It’s thought by some that the stark separation between these two markets has created an unfair playing field for all operations within the recreational cannabis industry in Washington. It is hard to compete when a gram of medical marijuana costs about $7 to $11 compared to $12 to $16 per gram in a rec store. Medical dispensaries also seem to be located visibly everywhere. The ratio of medical dispensaries to recreational shops is close to 4:1 respectively, and this is because medical dispensaries don’t have as many restrictions dictating where they can and cannot be (i.e. 1000 feet from schools and parks). It makes sense to align these two worlds and give Washington a more synergistic platform to operate upon. Even with some of these “common sensical” arguments supporting the need for merging these two marketplaces, a heated conversation can easily be ignited with those who currently rely on medical cannabis. The State has proposed significant changes to the current allotment for those who hold medical cards and it’s not pretty. Once July 2016 rolls around, medical cannabis patients will notice a large shift away from the liberal allowances that were once granted by the State. If you grew your own plants, your allowance has now dwindled to a mere four to six plants, and the 24 ounces allowed per purchase? Down to three. With all of the changes that are headed our way, there will be a path in place for a smooth transition.

I-502 shops, which are currently in operation, will be able to obtain endorsements, allowing them to sell medical products to patients with a medical card tax-free. It is undoubtedly a sacrifice, but as legislation tweaks the bill, some are optimistic that a satisfactory outcome to all parties involved will prevail. Others have hope that constant public demand will make rec cannabis more affordable for patients in the future. I hope that many more rec stores will step up to the plate with unique savings programs for patients, who may not have a choice but to rely on this new market.
