Location: Colombia, Missouri, the U.S.

Approximately 80% of all flowers in the US are imported from countries such as Columbia, Ecuador, the Netherlands, and Canada. While the import flower industry has historically thrived, it poses environmental challenges such as carbon dioxide emissions. To address this issue, local flower industries have emerged. Missouri’s diverse landscape and nurturing Mississippi river basin make it an ideal location for cultivating a variety of flora and fauna.

In my project, we grow specialty cut flowers that are often heirloom, have high economic value, and are difficult to transport. This initiative contributes to environmental and ecosystem health, encourages community participation, and creates job opportunities. Additionally, it promotes a healthy lifestyle on-site through phytoremediation and serves as a green space for visitors and residents to enjoy on both weekdays and festive occasions, connecting urban and suburban areas.

Toxic Farming (state wide analysis)

The farmland around the Mississippi River is highly productive, providing cheap crops and meat to the world. However, there are negative consequences. The use of fertilizers and manure containing nitrogen and phosphorus on these farms can pollute waterways, resulting in tainted drinking water and harmful algae blooms that harm marine life. The issue is exacerbated by intense rains and flooding in the spring. A diagram based on geospatial analysis of industrial agriculture patterns in the Midwest aims to identify links between human health and environmental problems caused by agriculture.

Background (national wide and potential in region) Cut flower industry are a booming business which contribute the U.S. the world’s largest consumer of cut flowers, with a majority of imported flowers from Colombia and Ecuador. But behind the beautiful bou-quets can be significant environmental and human costs.

Missouri has the typical ecoregion and claypan soil structure for myriad native flowers to florish on land, which could be consider as a great way to grow our own flower business.

Strip Mining Process

Human coal mining has changed over the past 100 years to utilize strip mining, resulting in striped land and forests cut down. This has contaminated streams, turning them orange and threatening native species. Strip mining is unique compared to other forms of mining. Early settlers discovered valuable minerals in the 1740s and began exploiting the land for industrial and metallic materials, leading to the reclamation of many forests. Stripe mining is a surface mining method for coal excavation. Ore is extracted in strips, and the waste from each strip is used to backfill the previous one until the ore is exhausted. Tallgrass prairies were fertile and diverse before mining began in the 1840s, with various thriving species and harmonious streams and wetlands.

Location: Texcoco, Mexico City, Mexico

Texcoco is a complex site with tremendous harzard and disaster. The Airport has eract on this land once and then stop construct on the half way, which taken the ejido land and leave the unsolved problems to the local communities.

In this project, a new way of surviving and thriving for the farmers was provided by remanage the sewage water from the adjacent site, which benefits not only for people who live in the urban but the texcoco whole communities that they are able to reuse the water for different purpose as for multicropping and algae farming, in the meantime, the lost ejido has been brought back.

are located in the saline grassland that surrounds the lake Texcoco, which are mainly sheeps and goats. The Function of the local crop: Maguey (Agave americana)

During the night, a plant employing CAM has its stomata open, allowing CO2 to enter and be fixed as organic acids by a PEP reaction similar to the C4 pathway. The resulting organic acids are stored in vacuoles for later use, as the Calvin cycle cannot operate without ATP and NADPH, products of light-dependent reactions that do not take place at night.

THE AGRICULTURE HISTORY IN MEXICO (Texcoco) Agriculture has been important historically and politically in Mexico, although it now accounts for a small part of the GDP. Texcoco's soil profile, shaped by volcanic eruptions, is dense, slowly permeable, and contains a high clay content, leading to extensive subsidence. The Aztecs relied on hunting, fishing, and irrigation for cultivation, while the Spanish introduced new crops such as wheat. Most Mexicans were subsistence farmers until the Ejido system was established during the Mexican Revolution. Today, commercialized agriculture has resulted in soil degradation due to the heavy use of pesticides and fertilizers.

Today, terrace farming is still practiced in some parts of Mexico, particularly in the southern states of Oaxaca and Chiapas. Farmers in these regions use a similar technique to the Aztecs, building terraces along the contour of steep hillsides and filling them with soil, compost, and other organic matter. These terraces are used to grow crops such as corn, beans, and squash, which are staples of the Mexican diet. Terrace farming allows farmers to make the most of hilly or mountainous land, preventing soil erosion and allowing for more efficient use of water resources.

Location: Chengdu, Sichuan, China

Humin Community hold the primitive memory of the city, and it is one of the typical communities that has went through the history development through expansion, demolition, and returning back over the last 50 years. Right now it has loss the vatility with no positive space and the people in this communities are almost elder people. Humin Community would vanish if Sichuan Agriculture University were not build close to it since it brought a lot potential to the communities.

In this project, by rethink the history of humin and its possible industry forms and why these result came into being, a new landscape and building facade refurbishment way has been released. The future of Humin would be like a vortex that involve multiple commerical or small business that will eventually bring this area back to life, and radiate to its surroundings.

The changes in things are not only influenced by the outside world, but often high-quality changes are formed spontaneously from within.

Scene 1: It is 1980, here is not called Huimin community. Li Guifen made lunch and was going to give it to her husband and brother who worked in the fields.

Scene 2: from the 1980s to the beginning of the 21st century.

The government has brought the villagers together and built a house for them, and the Huimin Community was established.

Scenario 3: One day in 2015, a chubby middle-aged man with black-rimmed glasses signed a seven-year lease at Gui Fen’s house. Look around Guifen home is full of shops, convenience stores, teahouse, hostels, restaurants ...

The original traffic condition of Wufu East Lane is poor: the quick speed of the motor vehicles, the narrow roads, the risk of traffic accidents. The wedge-shaped green vegetation is disjointed and the utilization rate is low. Pedestrians from Wufu West Lane had to go around the three sides to get to the Feilong sixth Lane. People's daily walks, rest, activities, communication and other emotional and belonging needs are limited.

Jindao Valley is a well known tourist attraction with a fiction mystery in China , of which suffer problems that the tourists decreased with the visiting route is unresonable that the older people are not capable of covering all the distance on the way. They would have rest halfway and cannot go further up to experience thrilling valley scenary.

A new way of having the Valley as a incarnation of this fiction to amplify the martial art sentiment into this valley, shaping the valley, in the meantime shape the visitors a sublime sworsman in their mind. historical legends surrounding the origin of the name "Golden Knife Gorge". According to legend, during the last years of the Yuan Dynasty, a warrior named Zhang Kun found a golden knife embedded in the wall of the gorge, which he used to break through the obstacles and escape. In another version, Zhang Kun was part of a bandit organization and used the knife to become the leader of the group and rob the rich to assist the poor, earning a reputation in the Huayingshan mountain area. In yet another version, Zhang Kun served in the army of the Xia Dynasty and used the knife to lead a successful attack against the enemy, capturing their leader and stabilizing the territory. Regardless of the details, the golden knife in the gorge has become a famous legend in the area, and the gorge itself is named after it.

At a particular time, light passes through the structure and forms the silhouette of a golden knife on the ground, which pass to the tourist a kind of swordsman emotion.

In combination with the local cultural background, the original intention is to create a grand and spectacular structure, however, the effect of the model is very abrupt, and the relationship with the surrounding environment is not fully taken into consideration. It isn’t very well integrated into the environment, at the same time, the introduction of the concept also seems far-fetched.

At some point, the silhouette of a gold knife was created on the ground, but such a large structure would destroy the local natural environment and the harmonious atmosphere between nature and human beings.

The structure is completely hidden, and visitors can only see the beautiful scenery of the sunset and the carved gold knife at a certain time when they arrive at the underground exhibition hall.

As the sun set, the arriving tourists were captivated by the sudden beauty of the scene, inducing a temporary sense of selflessness and spiritual freedom, unhindered by external factors.

Our project seeks to observe the problem of the sense of distance between human and nature in a commercial mixed with industrial area of St. Antonino, Swizerland, The design solutions are the embodiment of space representation and interpretation of breaking the border in order to achieve completeness and continuity of the nature with ecological and social resilience.After refurbishment, the site is now a lively and open living room with entertainment installation that provides dynamic active unique experiences.

The existing problems are classified into three clear gradations at the planning level based on the concept,.

And the three gradation of boundaries: boundary between territory, boundary between building and open space, and boundary between humans.

The integration and correspondence of the two concepts are updated to a more comprehensive concept, which lays the foundation for the later program promotion.

FRAGILE CITY

This project is based on the historical problematic development in Piacenza, Italy. How to build a common and shared vision, also capable of involving new inhabitants is the target.

By strongly integrated with the urban and territorial dynamics (“the city is the landscape and the landscape is the city"), giving a series solutions with different urban void as sharing space for different stakeholders.

After World War II, the development of the city stagnated. Some military service buildings and their ancillary spaces left in the war were well preserved, but they were not fully utilized, and due to the economic downturn, many citizens went out to work thereby the population in the city is very small.
