For so long, people thought Dorfman was about selling hats. But really, we’re about our hat community. You see a hat is just an accessory, but our millinery community is fostered by the artisans that hand make our hats, local shops that display our creations, and our customers’ stories who wear them with distinction. This is coupled with our relentless commitment to service instilled by our founder, Jack Dorfman. I have enjoyed a rewarding career, that I sometimes think chose me. After I graduated from FIT in NYC with a B.A. in Textile and Apparel Design, I started as an assistant buyer for the men’s accessories department at B. Altman. That was where I was first introduced to the Mens’ headwear industry. I was amazingly intrigued by headwear production. Three dimensional, beautiful headwear was formed out of what started out looking like fuzzy hoods. Strange straw baskets were made into works of art, of function and fashion.

When B. Altman was sold, I decided to open my own retail store, eventually expanding to four locations around NYC. Running my own business came with certain stresses, and when I started looking for a change, I

jumped into a position as VP of Merchandise and Design at Pusser’s in the Caribbean. My attention once again turned to headwear, as many tourists arrived without a hat to protect them from the tropical sun, and went home with 2 new hats!

After a stint as head of Merchandising and Design at Hartmarx in Chicago, I finally dove into the headwear industry completely, and became head of Merchandising, Design, and Re-branding at Dorfman. For 20 years, I have been passionate about reinventing the men’s headwear industry with Dorfman. We incorporate cutting edge technologies into our designs, keeping you protected, bug free, cool, or visible. We give old favorites a new elegance. At Dorfman, function and fashion work in tandem.

A heat generating fiber that absorbs light to radiate thermal energy and keep your head warms.

BAMBOO

Bamboo fibers have excellent moisture absorbency, natural antibacterial properties, and are eco-friendly.

BREATHABLE

This fabric is a lightweight, sun-protective, brushed cotton material with extra ventilation for enhanced air flow.

CASHMERE BLEND

Cashmere yarn blended with wool yarn. Cashmere and wool percentages will vary.

Brims treated with extra sizing to create a stiff rigid brim that will not flop.

These sweatbands are made of a DuPont® fabric with the capability of moving moisture away from the skin, keeping your forehead dry.

A cotton fabric treated with oils and waxes to create a rugged fabric that is water repellent and protects you from the rain, wind, and dust.

These versatile hats have a stretchable or adjustable sweatband, for a more comfortable fit that will form to most people’s heads.

Made with hand harvested, natural straws that are eco conscious, highly sustainable, and renewable.

THINSULATE™

This insulation is warm yet lightweight, powerful yet thin. It helps trap body heat, while allowing moisture to escape.

RECYCLED

Recycled PET materials use less energy than creating virgin polyester yarns, create 75% less CO2 emissions,and help lower our overall carbon footprint.

Our straw hats are handwoven from genuine, naturally greenhued seagrass. Woven with an open weave to promote ventilation, these hats are light and airy.
