raffle ticket sales totalled £130, which was then topped up by Keith Motors by £70, totalling £200 altogether, and then donated to Oakhaven Hospice Trust. Robin Webb, dealer principal says “We are delighted to be celebrating the launch of the new Ford Focus as well as Keith Motors 60th anniversary. The event has been a fantastic opportunity to showcase the critically-acclaimed new Ford Focus to our clients and VIP guests as well as to raise funds for Oakhaven Hospice Trust.” The event took place at the East Close Hotel, nestled in the New Forest near Christchurch, who kindly donated a meal for two and an overnight stay at the hotel. WHAT’S ON AT THE REGENT? Brighton Rock (15) Mon 11 – Thurs 14 April 7:30pm only Graham Greene’s classic 1938 Brighton is updated to 1964 and the era of the Mods and Rockers. First filmed in 1947 and famously starring Richard Attenborough in the role of the notorious gang leader, Pinkie Brown, this new film stars Sam Riley with Helen Mirren, John Hurt, Andy Serkis and Andrea Riseborough. The young hoodlum is forced to start romancing a naïve young waitress when he realises that she may be able to give evidence against him for a murder he committed. A star is born in Andrea Riseborough as the waitress who falls for the wrong man, whilst Helen Mirren shines as Riseborough’s hard boiled boss who rumbles Pinkie’s ruse.

Tangled (PG)

Fair Game (12A)

Wed 13 – Sat 16 & Mon 18 – Thurs 21 April 2:30pm only

Sun 24 – Wed 27 April 7:30pm

Based on the Brothers Grimm’s fable, Rapunzel, Disney’s 50th animated feature film is pure gold. As a baby girl, Rapunzel is kidnapped by an evil old lady, who uses the infant’s magical hair to regain her youthful looks. As the years go by, Rapunzel remains imprisoned in a tall tower as the old crone harvests her lush mane. Then one day a common thief, Flynn, takes refuge in the tower. Rapunzel asks him to help her escape and her new hero agrees. Animated action adventure at its best with plenty of humour and romance plus a catchy musical score.

Riveting, fast moving, fact based drama about the manipulating of facts and false truths that resulted in Britain and America going to war with Iraq to topple Saddam Hussein. The film is based on the books by former CIA agent, Valerie Plame and her husband, Joseph Wilson, a former US Ambassador. With perfect timing the film comes out just as Tony Blair has to face the Chilcot enquiry about the war and George Bush’s memoirs, Decision Points, hits the book stores. The power games begin as British intelligence uncovers Saddam’s plan to import yellow cake, a nuclear weapon ingredient, from Niger. The CIA sends Joseph Wilson to Niger to investigate. He knows the African politicians well and finds there is no evidence of the transaction. He reports this back to the CIA but when Bush uses his State of the Union Address to declare that Saddam is getting nuclear materials from Niger, Wilson goes public with his report. The political fallout is instant as Wilson’s name is blackened and his wife is exposed as a CIA agent by a Vice Presidential aide. Exposing the identity of a CIA agent is a federal offence and the couple set about clearing their names and saving their marriage and careers. Naomi Watts and Sean Penn star in this thought provoking film.

True Grit (15) Fri 15 – Thurs 21 April 7:30pm only 10 Oscar nominations and 8 BAFTA nominations make True Grit a true rival to The King’s Speech for top honours during this year’s cinema award season. The Coen Brothers insist that this is not a remake of John Wayne’s 1969 acting Oscar triumph in the film of the same name. Instead they are revisting the best selling novel by Charles Portis. When Josh Brolin murders her father, 14 year old Hailee Steinfield hires a rough, tough, hard drinking grizzled old US Marshall, J Rooster Cogburn, played by Jeff Bridges, to bring him to justice. Having nailed the modern western with the Oscar winning No Country for Old Men, the Coen Brothers breathe new life into the traditional western. A beautifully acted and wonderfully filmed triumph which manages to be exciting, humorous and breathtaking to watch.

Gerry & The Pacemakers Friday 22 April 7:30pm — Tickets: £18, Concessions £17 Gerry Across the Mersey — Join in this musical journey through the life and times of one of our greatest 60s icons, Gerry Marsden. Gerry & The Pacemakers topped the UK and US charts for much of the 60s. Gerry talks about his early beginnings in Liverpool, those heady days of the 60s and up to the present. Hear all Gerry’s greatest hits mixed with stories, jokes and anecdotes from his years at the top. This is a roller coaster ride of fun, music and nostalgia with hits like: How Do You Do It, I Like It, You’ll Never Walk Alone, It’s Alright, Don’t Let The Sun Catch You Crying and their signature anthem, Ferry Cross The Mersey.

Gnomeo & Juliet (U) Sun 24, Mon 25 & Wed 27 April 2:30pm The Bard’s legendary tale of Romeo & Juliet is the subject of this brand new animated adaptation by Rocket Films, Elton John’s own British production company. It is set in Stratford-on-Avon and stars two warring families of garden gnomes who do daily battle over, under and around the garden fence. You can tell the difference because one family has red hats and the other family has blue hats! The star crossed lovers are voiced by James McAvoy and Emily Blunt, who hope to break the feud. The film is full of Shakespearean puns with Rosencrantz & Guildenstern’s removal firm; the Taming of the Glue takes place when one of the gnomes has to be repaired, and Nanny is re-cast as a ceramic frog fountain. Meanwhile, Gnomeo conducts a debate with a bronze statue of the Bard, arguing the merits of a happy ending to the play.

Young chefs battle it out for Food Festival title Four young chefs from the Christchurch area have battled it out in an attempt to win the title of Coastline Young Chef of the Year as part of Christchurch Food & Wine Festival. The four – Adam Hart from Chewton Glen Hotel, Lloyd Rixon from The Ship and Christopher Lewis and Sebastian Merry, both from The Captains Club Hotel – took part in a cook-off at Bournemouth & Poole College. They were required to prepare, cook and present a threecourse meal, using local ingredients as much as possible, in a two-hour period. The results were judged by David Boland, Senior Lecturer/ Lead Tutor Hospitality & Catering at the College, James Golding, Executive Chef at Whitley Ridge in Brockenhurst and Craig Russell, Key Accounts Manager at Coastline Food Service, the sponsors of the competition. The judges had a difficult job to come up with the winner as all four presented some interesting dishes which were executed and presented beautifully, with main courses ranging from roasted guinea fowl and roast lamb cutlets to pan fried halibut and red wine braised brill. David Boland, one of the judges, said: “Overall the standard was very good again this year. As always, I’m amazed by the talent these young chefs show and the some of the concepts they came up with were fantastic.”
