In 1998, he made recordings for several artistes appearing on ITV’s ‘Stars in Their Eyes’ and has performed at several organ festivals in Holland. Ian first performed at Weyhill in October 2006 and then at The Lights theatre in October 2008, along with Richard Bower and Andy Oakley under the title of the Keyklix Klan. He has since made three solo appearances at Weyhill and is always in demand for festivals and concerts, the latter usually including request spots which have proved very popular amongst his audiences.

The WEOS concert at the Fairground Hall, Weyhill on Thursday 19 September will feature IAN GRIFFIN from Neath in South Wales, making his sixth visit to the Club. Ian is an award-winning keyboard player, having first appeared on BBC 1 television at the age of twelve in a programme titled Britain’s Young Entertainers. At the age of fifteen he appeared in an electronic keyboard festival where he was voted the best player under the age of 18 by the readers of a national music Inmagazine.1990,he formed his own cabaret show band, ‘Casual Affair’, which made several appearances on HTV’s ‘Friday Live’ programme. In 1996 he was the musical director on HTV’s ‘Friday Night Live’, an early form of ITV’s X-Factor show, with famous personalities as judges on talent from Wales. His gift of perfect pitch has been useful in accompanying many singers, for which he received accolades from

I completely understand the impact rising inflationary pressures and the significant increase in energy prices are having on hard-pressed residents. The recent statements by the Governor of the Bank of England and the Chief Executive of the energy regulator Ofgem offer a sobering analysis of worse to come this winter, primarily caused by Russia’s attempted invasion of Ukraine. And although it’s down to national government to offer more assistance to those that need it most, I’ve been concentrating on what we can do Thelocally.borough council already provides a broad range of support to individuals and families - including £815k to the Citizens Advice Bureau over the next three years to provide advice on benefits, debt reduction and other practical support; the work our housing service does to get people into accommodation and support them to stay there; paying out the £150 energy rebate payments; administering food vouchers as part of the Household Support Fund; providing council tax and housing benefit support; helping to develop the networks of local groups who often work with people most in need in communities; and internally, we have moved all of our lowestpaid workers onto a higher pay band. Although we don’t have infinite resources, there are ways we can do more. This is why I recently organised a special meeting of the Test Valley Partnership focused solely on the cost of living. In the spirit of crossparty working - and in recognition of the scale of the issue - I invited the Leader of the Opposition to help me host the session. The meeting provided a platform for partner organisations to discuss what we are all already doing, identify any gaps and determine what else we can do to assist. Whether that be signposting, other practical support or perhaps even some one-off targeted assistance to relevant Weorganisations.arecurrently working up an action plan to help people further but one of the first things we have done is create a page on Test Valley Borough Council’s website where we have brought together in one location all the help that is currently available. Whether that be advice on benefits, making sure people who are eligible are claiming everything they are entitled to, links to local help and advice on conversations to have with your energy company. Also ensure leaky taps are fixed and are certainly not left running for any amount of time unnecessarily – a tap left on can let through six litres of water in under a minute. That means small things such as turning the tap off when brushing your teeth or washing your face can offer a huge benefit in terms of saving water. And of course, whilst helping the environment you’re also reducing your water bill.

You need to get it right and wills can be challenged for a number of reasons.

If you and your partner have children from previous relationships you can use your will to ensure that you make proper provision for all your loved ones.

Potential problems with DIY wills

A DIY will may save you a few pounds but could leave an expensive mess behind for your loved ones after your death.

If its contents are not clear it could cause a dispute about the meaning of the will. It may be that it was drafted in such a way that there are people that you did not intend to benefit who can make a claim against your estate. This could lead to expensive legal arguments involving lots of different people who have an interest. You can use your will to minimise the impact on your estate of inheritance tax. You may also be able to protect your share of your house against being used for your surviving partner’s care home fees following your death.

The effects of a poorly drafted will can last many years as family disagreements can ensue with potentially no reconciliation. Every other provider is piggybacking off their signal, so, in effect, it’s the same signal. So by selecting one of the smaller companies all you’re doing is going with a virtual network, and everything else should remain the same. Obviously check before you sign up to see if 5G or tethering conditions are available, but beyond those things it’s the same line. The Adventures of Daichi The Modern Magazines Camper Van Daichi loves the sea. That is why we all moved to Weymouth at the end of last year, to be as close to the beach as possible. And what a summer it has been. Glorious sunshine, glistening blue, turquoise waters, golden sand and lots of happy faces. Of course, boat trips are a must and with plenty of choice, Weymouth harbour is a delight to sail from. I may have mentioned that my Mum has dementia. It is a horrible disease that is for sure. Never predictable and always a challenge. My Dad, at age 87 still drives all the way from Hull to visit us and I absolutely take my hat off to him for persisting through the same questions on and on as he cruises down the motorway. Music works well and the sixties songs with The Supremes, Neil Diamond, Buddy Holly, Dusty Springfield and even the Rolling Stones are a blessing no one would ever realise. Singing to her hearts content, all smiles, the long journey is possible… albeit ear plugs are recommended! Dad, having been a fisherman all his life, loves the water. That is where I get my passion from, I am sure. My sister and I try and give him as much time as possible for his ultimate pleasure, pond fishing for carp, but boat trips to sea are also one of his delights. Hayden, our son of now nearly nineteen, used to go on the Yorkshire Belle with them, in Bridlington, when he visited in the summer some moons ago. So, off to sea we went. We chose a smaller, leisurely boat called Josephine so that Mum would not be alarmed. It was just gorgeous. Bobbing along on the calm waters, literally watching the world go by, looking back at the busy Esplanade with people milling around, fair rides spinning, children playing, I All aboard! have to say I just love it. Passing Nothe Fort, on the right, our coastal defence which was built between 1860 and 1872 by 26 Company of the Royal Engineers to protect Portland and Weymouth Harbours, makes you feel quite small sat in a tiny blue boat. It was due to this construction that Portland became an important Royal Navy base. The fort is certainly worth a visit but do be ready for the gun shots on each hour or they can be quite a shock! I nearly finished up on the top of Portland (spiritually) when I first heard it! With a prison there, I am not sure that was prosurvival… So, back on the boat, all was well. We continued across the bay towards Portland Harbour. I was amazed at the buildings jutting right out to sea. I believe they were all part of the defence which was put in place. They are pretty derelict now and would need quite some upgrade, but I am sure they would make some very unusual houses. The problem with me is that I am always looking for a project to do… it drives Stephen mad! One day I will retire… but it could be some time. We pootled into Portland Bay where there were huge cargo ships and a naval ship, but then to our utter delight two dolphins jumped out of the water in synchronised dancing. How wonderful! Back and forth they frolicked, entertaining us with lots of ooh, aahs and happy sounds. Family times are all about making memories, and although Mum will not remember, as she was ‘not there’ and will adamantly assert that, we knew she had a good time and loved every minute. So did we. Sailing back, to our astonishment there was a seal bathing on a rock, looking at us in a rather bored way while flapping its tail quietly against the stone. What an incredible day and all here in the UK. I do enjoy a trip abroad, but there are such sights, delights and moments to be enjoyed right here. Dad really wants to go reef fishing. It is on his ‘bucket’ list and with trips available here in Weymouth, I wonder if Daichi can make this go right for us all? I wonder? Let’s see in the next issue of your Local Magazine. Mercury The innermost planet cannot be seen this month. Venus Venus is visible just before sunrise in the east, but is lost in the Sun’s glare towards the end of the month. It will reappear in our evening skies in December. Mars Mars can be seen late in the evening, rising around 10pm. It is currently located in the constellation of Taurus the Bull, and is close to the Hyades and Pleiades star clusters (see figure).

Jupiter & Saturn

Both gas giants are visible from 9pm in our south-eastern skies as the Sun sets, with dazzling Jupiter lower to the east (left) of less-bright Saturn. An almost-full moon appears between them on the 9th. Moon September’s full moon occurs on the 10th. It is close to Saturn on the 8th, Jupiter on the 10th, and Mars on the 16th.

Did you know...? A very rare event occurs in the UK for the first time since 1953 this month, when the Moon moves in front of (occults) the planet Uranus. Although not a naked-eye planet, Uranus can easily be spotted in binoculars, and you can use these to watch as it disappears behind the lit side of the Moon on the 14th around 10.15pm depending on your location. It will then reappear out from behind the dark limb of the Moon around an hour or so later. Feline lower urinary tract disease (FLUTD) is a term used to describe conditions that can affect either the bladder or urethra (tube from the bladder to the outside) of cats. It is thought to affect around 1-3% of cats each year, so is one of the more common reasons for them being taken to the Commonvets.signs cats may show include:

• Difficulty urinating (straining) or painful urination • Increased frequency of urination, often producing small amounts and visiting the litter tray frequently.

• Over-grooming due to pain and irritation. If your cat is straining to urinate and not producing urine and is distressed or unwell you should contact your vet immediately. We see this condition more commonly in cats that are young to middle-aged, neutered, overweight, mostly stay indoors, and who are fed predominantly on a dry diet, however any cat can be at risk. There are many different causes of FLUTD, but by far the most common cause accounting for around 60-70% of cases is Idiopathic cystitis. Idiopathic cystitis is essentially inflammation of the bladder without a known cause. In order to reach a diagnosis your vet may need to perform some tests such as looking at a urine sample or performing x-rays or an Forultrasound.mostcats it can be addressed by making some simple changes to their environment. Increasing water intake is very important to reduce the risk of this condition. Cats are incredibly efficient at absorbing water from their food, which is why many owners don’t really seem to see their cats drinking very much. Changing to a wet diet can increase water intake. Drinking water is also important, but cats can be incredibly fussy about how it is presented to them! Ceramic water bowls are often favoured over metallic, and also wide and shallow bowls so their whiskers aren’t repeatedly brushing on the sides. To cater to those who prefer a running water source you could invest in a cat water fountain, which provides water as a constant stream. For some cats, living with other pets can be stressful, but they are good at hiding their true feelings and recurrent cystitis may be the only clue. Stress is now thought to be a big factor in many cases of idiopathic cystitis. If you have more than one cat in the house, it is important that each cat has its own food and water bowl, plus at least one extra bowl spare around the house. This also goes for litter trays, one per cat plus one extra is the recommendation and they should be placed in quiet locations away from the hustle and bustle of the home. That way there is less competition for important resources, helping with harmonious feline living, after all we wouldn’t like to all eat off the same plate and use a dirty bathroom! Pheromone products are available which have shown to be very useful for helping cats feel relaxed in their environment. Feliway is a synthetic cat appeasing pheromone, available as a plug-in diffuser. The natural pheromone and this synthetic version have shown to help create a happy cat environment. 1. Put the flour into the bowl of a food processor, add the butter in large pieces and process for a few seconds to the consistency of fine breadcrumbs. Add the sugar and the egg yolk and process until the mixture starts to come together to form a dough. 2. Next, pour in enough water – probably 1 or 2 tbsp – to Method produce a smooth, firm dough.
