South African author Rachel Wolchin once wrote, “If we were meant to stay in one place, we’d have roots instead of feet.” As a travel editor, I understand the sentiment all too well, as I continue to feel the itch of not having ventured much farther than my closest land borders in recent months.
However, the past year has taught me to appreciate the roots that I’ve put down in my adopted home of the Emirates, since arriving 14 years ago. Time spent opening my eyes to what’s right here – rather than beyond the horizon.
So much of what we seek elsewhere – culture, community, climate, experience – is available here, just a gently distilled version. For example, you’ll find lashings of la dolce vita at the Donatella-designed Palazzo Versace; a touch of the tropics without the travel at Anantara The Palm Dubai Resort; and spatial escapism beyond skyscrapers at Al Wathba, a Luxury Collection Desert Resort & Spa.
Whatever your whim, enjoy the adventure.
