The first 24 hours after birth is the most critical time for little piglets. Pigs born at the 102 degree warmth of the sow coming into a farrowing room of 70 degrees or less are very susceptible to heat loss.
Filter-Eeze速 flooring allows you to drop the temperature level of your facilities by approximately 5 degrees and still maintain a warm and comfortable floor. If you reduce your temperature by 5 degrees you can save energy costs as follows:
Younger pigs require a warmer and cleaner floor than do older pigs. This is because younger pigs have a less-developed immune system and require warmer temperatures. Younger pigs are more easily chilled and more susceptible to disease. Chilled young pigs have reduced resistance to disease, are drowsy, and often fail to suckle properly. As a result, they run a higher risk of being laid on by the sow or really never getting that good nursing start. Little pigs have no fat to keep them warm. The only heat gain a pig has is through its intake. Heat loss, however, comes from a combination of cold structure surfaces, air temperature, drafts, and the flooring material the pig is constantly in contact with. The greater the heat loss, the more feed it will take to offset that loss and produce gains. The thermal comfort flooring from Double L is very energy efficient. The temperature in the room can actually be turned down 5 degrees and still maintain a comfortable environment for the pigs.

Concrete was the worst with 22.5 watts of energy in still air. Pig Mat Saves 36% of Pig’s Heat Loss Tests conducted by Double L show that producers using the 4’ x 6’ Wean-to-Finish Pig Welcome Mat can use 36% less energy to maintain the pig’s body temperature (105º F) versus a pig lying on a concrete floor. Two boxes, 12” x 12” x 12” high, were made using 1 1/2” thick insulation board, leaving the top and bottom of the box open. Lined with 3 mil plastic and filled with water, two identical heating probes were used to heat the water to 105º F. One box was placed on a concrete floor and the other box was placed on the 4’ x 6’ Welcome Mat on a concrete floor. When the temperature of the water reached 105º F, the usage of kilowatts to maintain that temperature in two boxes was documented during the winter months.
Concrete Floor vs. Warm, Dry Pig Mat
In a 17-hour span, the box on the plastic mat used 1.15 KwH while the box directly on the concrete used 1.8 KwH. Double L Inlets Great For Retrofit As production costs continue to rise, we need to do all we can to help minimize these expenses. The University of Georgia listed air mixing as one of the most important ways to reduce heating costs. One of the easiest ways to do this is to have the right size fan and inlets as well as inlets that do not leak air back into the attic.
Installing JD2900 The C2000 (QUAD) has been replaced with the Double L JD2900 Inlet to eliminate inlet freeze-up which allows moist in-house air to enter the attic during cold weather. Attic inspectors have shown that this moist air can harm the metal truss plates, the ceiling insulation, and structural integrity of the building.

The replacement JD2900 inlet improves barn air mixing as well as minimizes the air leakage back into the attic. The inlet lids are insulated to minimize condensation, dripping, and freeze-up during very cold weather. And the good news is that the JD2900 has the same size rough opening as the C2000 (QUAD). Replacement is as easy as taking out the old screws and putting in new screws. Another advantage of the JD2900 is an increase in air capacity from the original C2000 (QUAD) rating of 1,883 cfm to 2,490 cfm with the JD2900. This is an increase in airflow of 33%. The JD2900 also gives a more precise control of airflow and can be adjusted to open at different static pressures.

The Raydot Inlets are no longer available and are replaced by the Double L RD1200 and RD2400 inlets. They are constructed of a rotomolded single piece housing, which is fully insulated and corrosion RD2400 resistant. They feature a 1� totally covered insulated lid with a seal around the perimeter to minimize condensation, dripping, and inlet freeze-up. Frictionless styrofoam PVC covered lids on a continuous flexible hinge swing down to allow clean attic air into the main room. When the lids are closed, the inlet is fully sealed against air leakage and light. They withstand harsh environments and extreme cold weather conditions. Shutoffs are included. Insulation stops are not required. Remember, by using these inlets to replace Raydot Inlets, there is no reframing needed. These replacement inlets will fit into the existing rough openings. Less labor and lower cost is hard to beat with these quality replacement inlets. Problems occurred with the BIL Inlets which have been replaced with the Double L TJW wall inlets. The BIL inlets leaked air around the blade into the room. The linkage system was hard to adjust compared to the TJWs. The TJW is counterweighted on each BIL Inlets translucent blade, allowing air to be brought in along the ceiling and mix the warmer air at that height with the cooler air near the floor. This helps with LP gas costs and helps reduce pig scours by preventing the pigs from getting chilled. The TJW louvers are easier to keep clean and don’t break like the BIL blades. Airflow capacity can also be increased with the TJW inlets. Improved sow comfort increases feed intake allowing the sow to produce more milk, wean heavier pigs, and improve breed-back.

2-Way Fully Insulated Attic Inlets Withstands Harsh Environments and Cold Weather Conditions Double L’s 2-Way Fully Insulated Attic Inlets are great for minimum to maximum ventilation for precise control of air movement, directing air along ceiling for proper air mixing. They are constructed of a single piece, fully insulated, corrosion resistant, rotomolded housing with 1” thick fully insulated lids to minimize condensation,
dripping, and inlet freeze-up. Frictionless styrofoam PVC covered lids on a continuous PVC hinge swing down to allow clean attic air into main room. When lids are closed, inlet is fully sealed against air leakage and light. Withstands harsh environments and extreme cold weather conditions.

C2200 Releases 20% More Air / CFM than C2000 (Quad) Air Inlet BESS Lab tests prove that the C2200 Inlet allows 20% more cfm through the inlet than a C2000. The extra cfm per inlet allows the customer to use fewer inlets per room. Counterbalance louvers adjust automatically to static pressure and each inlet can be shut off for better air control.
