A dynamic new collection of work by Simon Rivett, introducing a bold figurative aspect to his cityscapes Simon shows his strong painterly style and flair for composition in this new exhibition An absolutely stunning mix of large scale paintings, alongside smaller pieces

Traditionally, postcards were a medium used to relate scenes and experiences to friends and relatives They continue to convey a tangible reminder of an enjoyable experience This collection of paintings explores this concept by depicting everyday scenarios glimpsed when exploring this vibrant city

“My paintings in the exhibition are reflections on people’s interactions with Edinburgh. They are based on observation and the images have been created to reflect romance, commerce, exercise, festivals, and entertainment.”

The paintings are a development from my previous exhibitions based on the subject of Edinburgh - I wanted them to be playful, fun, affectionate reflections on Edinburgh and its residents and visitors ”

They are strongly figurative with the interesting addition of a narrative I had a huge amount of fun painting them and I hope you enjoy them ” Simon

Simon Rivett trained at Goldsmiths College in London and gained a BA (Hons) in Fine Art. He has been painting landscapes from his days as a student, from painting the declining industrial landscape of his home in Newcastle, to living and working in Lewis and exploring the unique rural landscape of the Outer Hebrides. Since moving to live in Edinburgh, he has embraced landscape within cityscape, and is now introducing a strong figurative element in his trademark style
