Autumn Exhibition 2016 Welcome to our first online exhibition. We really hope that you enjoy the work within these pages, they are some of the best pots collated from a number of firings from throughout the year. Our forms and techniques draw influence from the traditional pottery of the United Kingdom, particularly those pots made by the great craftsmen from the medieval period, up until the Industrial Revolution. We use simple earthy slips and fire the pots in a kiln fuelled with wood. What makes wood fired pots beautifully unique, is that the flames flash across the surface of the glazes, producing a whole range of tones and colours around the body of the piece. Unfortunately, we could only afford to have the pots professionally photographed from one side, but should anyone require further images, drop us a line and we can take some simple snap shots. Should you wish to purchase any of the pieces, please email us at info@hannahmcandrew.co.uk stating the number and name of the pot that you are interested in. We will allocate pieces strictly in the order that emails arrive and update the catalogue when sales are confirmed. Postage will be at cost. We can acquire a quote prior to purchase for overseas buyers as the rates are much more variable than within the UK and we aim to provide the best value at time of dispatch. For UK delivery use the initial after the item price as a guide to postage costs: A: £8

B: £12

C: £14

D: £18

Payment can be taken by cheque (in Sterling), credit card, Direct Bank Transfer or PayPal. We aim to despatch within 7 days of purchase. Should you be unhappy with your purchase for any reason, you may send the piece back and we will offer a refund upon safe return of the work. In this instance, postage costs are to be covered by the purchaser and we would ask that you contact us before returning any pieces. Of course we hope that this won’t happen and that you will be delighted with your new purchase. Please enjoy the catalogue, Best wishes, Doug and Hannah 3

An Introduction by Alex McErlain This inaugural on-line exhibition, of the pots of Hannah McAndrew and Doug Fitch, comes at a significant point in the development of their work. Long established as individual makers they continue to produce works of singular identity, though now sharing a working environment. The past year has seen each of them having to sharply focus on making their work whilst dealing concurrently with the upheavals of moving both house and studio. Add to this the interruption to normal schedules with the arrival of their daughter Pippin and it’s easy to see how the precious making time has resulted in a reassertion of their pottery vocabulary that they know best. This has not been a period for experimentation; although there are new things here; but one of working solidly and fluently within well understood territory. The results; presented here in the pick of the year’s pots; show the

assurance, fluency

and expression of two artists completely focussed on what they are doing. Those of us who are familiar with their work will recognise the hard won qualities these pots display. Wood firing can be a somewhat challenging process, often exasperating, but when the best pots emerge there is nothing to beat it. Enjoy this selection of the finest pots of their year; be confident in the knowledge that if you know their work, you are seeing outstanding examples of their oeuvre and if the work is new to you, be assured that these pots represent the work of two established potters working at the height of their creative abilities. Alex McErlain October 2016.

Doug watches the rooks on firing day in the nearby Chestnut tree. These provide the inspiration for his bird embellished money boxes which also draw reference from traditional 19th century country pottery examples.
