Douglas A. Grandt 3885 Oakes Drive Hayward, CA 94542 April 24, 2012 Mr. Rex Tillerson CEO and Board Chairman Exxon Mobil Corporation 5959 Las Colinas Boulevard Irving, Texas 75039 Re: Moral Conviction for Global Climate Leadership Dear Rex, In my March 25th letter to you, I asked you to lead the world away from dependence on fossil fuels. Understand that I appeal to your prominence and influential leadership as the 33rd national president of the Boy Scouts of America. I appeal to you as a fellow Eagle Scout, whose ideals include “leaving our campsite cleaner than we found it” and being reverent to God, our environment, and each other. Today, more than ever, we must do more than simply respect “the environment.” We must conserve the “livability” or “survivability of “our environment” because civilization is dependent upon the 12,000-year stable climate that allowed civilization to develop to the level we now enjoy. Repeating a statement in my March 25th letter: Celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Eagle Scout Award, for me, is about this: Passing our legacy to future generations, within our families, and far beyond. I appeal to you as a fellow father and son of Eagle Scouts. I appeal to you as a father of children of child-bearing age who will give you cherished gifts of beautiful grandchildren.
OIL CAPTAIN & EAGLE SCOUT EXEC REX TILLERSON ACTS TO STOP GLOBAL ECOCIDE. Earth Day 2013 marks the beginning of a new paradigm in the struggle to seriously address the effects of excessive CO2 in our atmosphere. The leader of the most influenital energy corporation announced today that he will call upon his peers and industry leaders around the globe to join in a 40-year plan to begin retiring refineries in order to achieve what legislators and presidents have so far failed to accomplish.
I appeal to you -- as a most prominent Captain of business and industry -- to emulate Charles Grant whose action as Chairman of the British East India Company 200 years ago led to the abolition of slavery in the British Empire (see http://bit.ly/Charles_Grant). Your bold and courageous moral leadership within your industry can set an example and be the turning point for society and governments which are paralyzed in stalemate.

You alone are uniquely situated to accept a difficult challenge and be the solution, leaving a legacy for future generations, not just for your grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. I have a plan which would fulfill your fiduciary responsibility to your shareholders, while moving civilization onto a sustainable energy path that will protect and conserve the climate which has allowed civilization to develop. I would like to explain to you how we can break away from the course that is leading us to a catastrophic global train wreck. Please join me for coffee and let’s chat. l think you will like and improve my plan. I am visiting my oldest son’s family (two grandsons, ages 11 and 14) just north of Austin for the next two weeks, and I will come to Irving to meet with you at your convenience. For the earth For humanity
