Who is expecting a baby?

It’s Mary – and he’ll be born very soon. An angel said it would be a boy: He would be God’s own son. 5


Where is everyone going?

Mary and Joseph are going to Bethlehem. Everyone must go to their family home so the Romans can count them all.

Is there a place to stay here?

It’s been a long journey; Mary is tired. The innkeeper shakes his head sadly. There is no room in the inn.

Who is lying in the manger?

It’s Jesus – Mary’s first-born son! Sshhh! The animals are watching round him, He was born in the stable tonight. 11


What are the shepherds afraid of?

A strange light has filled the sky! “Don’t be afraid!” an angel tells them. “Jesus is born today

Why are the shepherds running?

Who do they want to see? Mary and Joseph – and there, in the manger: the child who was born to be king.

Is that a bright star shining?

What do you think it could mean? A king for a country? A special birth surely? The wise men must travel to see. 16

Who is that riding on camels?

The wise men follow the star. They travel from far away in the east with gifts for the baby king. 19

I wonder who lives in that palace?

Could the baby king be there now? “No!” says King Herod, “I am king here! But come back when you find him – please?”

Where is the star leading them? Here is a house, a mother, a child. They kneel and offer their gifts of frankincense, myrrh and gold.

‘‘What can this mean?” wonders Mary.

Wise men with gifts bowing low, shepherds with strange news of angels, and praise for God and her child?

Who is having strange dreams now?

Joseph shakes Mary awake. An angel has warned him to leave home and move to a much safer place.

Where is that family going?

They still haven’t found their new home. From Egypt they travel to Galilee, Joseph, his wife and God’s son.
