I am very hopeful and very excited to see what the ‘20s have in store for our community! With the dawning of a new decade, we are all filled with hope and excitement. I find it important, however, to reflect on the past and see what has brought us to this point. Each year, the City of Douglasville holds its Employee Service Awards, recognizing the employment anniversaries of staff members, in addition to some very exceptional efforts throughout the year. I would like to share our recognition of them with the community because, so very often, many on our staff work behind the scenes to help the city operate. 2019 Promotions • Muhammad Ansari – Police Officer (Certified) • Chuck Combs – Park Maintenance Manager • Andre Futch - Detective • Andrew Hogan – Police Officer (Certified) • Candyce James – Assistant City Clerk • Roylee Johnson – Fleet Maintenance Supervisor • Charles Kraus – Corporal • Edward Lackey – Police Officer (Certified) • Walter Landers – Crew Chief • Amber Moore – Police Officer (Certified) • Brandon Nutter – Police Lieutenant • Michael Sadler – Police Sergeant • Zachary Turner – Fleet Maintenance Tech 5-Year Anniversary

WHO WORKS FOR THE CITY? In addition to honoring those who are celebrating promotions, anniversaries, and retirements, I would also like to spotlight one staff member: Chan Weeks, Executive Director of Keep Douglasville Beautiful (KDB). Back in December, Chan was awarded the 2019 Barbara Mason Executive Director of the Year Award at the Keep Georgia Beautiful Foundation awards ceremony. This is the top individual prize of the Keep Georgia Beautiful Foundation, the statewide affiliate of Keep America Beautiful. The Barbara Mason Executive Director of the Year Award recognizes outstanding leadership, commitment, determination, and dedication to the Keep America Beautiful mission, ideals and process. On top of the Barbara Mason Executive Director of the Year Award, Keep Douglasville Beautiful was also awarded the 2019-2020 Governor’s Circle Award. This award recognizes Keep Douglasville Beautiful’s outstanding achievements in community beautification and environmental sustainability. This is such outstanding recognition for our Keep Douglasville Beautiful program. I am so proud of Chan and am sure that we will do more in this new decade to ensure we keep Douglasville a beautiful place to live, work, play, and raise a family.
