PREFACE DOWNE HOUSE RECOGNISES THAT GLOBAL AWARENESS AND EXPERIENCE MATTER MORE IN THE 21ST CENTURY THAN EVER BEFORE AT ALL LEVELS OF EDUCATION. I am delighted to invite our students to explore the opportunity to participate in the Downe House Global Schools’ Exchange Programme. The aim is to give girls a competitive advantage and the capacity for success in a highly globalised and changing world. This exciting programme will afford our girls the chance to study abroad in South Africa, New Zealand, Holland, India, United States of America, Sweden, Hong Kong, Brazil, Japan and Australia, as well as the rewarding experience of hosting students from these countries. The programme aims to strengthen the international focus of Downe House’s activities and to provide exceptional opportunities for students to participate in the global community within the context of school and family life. There are many benefits for those participating in these exchanges. Students will find themselves becoming more comfortable in ‘international’ environments. Prospective universities look favourably upon experiences gained whilst living overseas and knowledge obtained from another language and culture. The need to communicate effectively and relate to others is key for the future and, over time, would develop in our girls an awareness of group dynamics and personal sensitivity towards others. Finally, successful programme completion will represent an excellent measure of personal flexibility, encompassing an ability to reach compromise, focus and succeed through challenging times. This Global Partnerships Programme offers a unique and rewarding experience for our girls to explore different communities and cultural differences. They will be challenged to embrace these differences and invited to share new perspectives with the School upon return so that the wider community benefits from these experiences. This booklet outlines the schools that we have partnered with for student exchange purposes, along with the contact details of our Global Partnerships team. Please do not hesitate to get in touch should you require further details. Yours sincerely
