Ten Gurus

This chapter is about the ten living Gurus of Sikhism. They lead their followers and taught people the teachings of their god. The Guru is now the everlasting Guru Grant Sahib (the Sikhs holy book) and they are told the many teachings the book holds.


Guru 1 Name: Guru Nanak Date of Birth: 15th April 1469 Date of Death: 22nd September 1539 Age at Death: 69 years old He founded Sikhism. He taught people that there is one god and everyone is equal. He believed that Sikhism is the only path to God.

Guru 2 Name: Guru Angad Dev Date of Birth: 31st March 1504 Date of Death: 29th March 1552 Age at death: 48 years old


He made lots of new schools to teach children the language, Gurmukhi. Hs name was chosen by Guru Nanak.

The Third Guru of Sikhism The third Guru of Sikhism’s name was Amar Das Ji. He was the third worshiper of God. He told people that meeting in colony is good because it shows either rich or poor can go to things even if one is wealthier than another.


The Fourth Guru of Sikhism His name was Guru Ram Das. He founded the city of Amritsar and brought into Sikhism the Guru markets. He composed many hymns including the ‘Lavan’ which is an important part of the Sikh marriage.

Guru Arjan Birth: He was born on 15 of April 1563. Death: He died at the 30th of May and his age was 48. Guru Arjan the 5th Guru. He was the youngest son of Guru Ram Des. He had one child that is called Guru Hargobind. When he died he was executed .He death was placed in Lahore. He started the book which became known as the


Guru Granth Sahib. He built the Harimander Sahih, the golden temple.

Guru Har Gobind He was the son of Guru Arjan Dev. Soon he realised the Sikhs needed to defend theirselfs and other. He wrore 2 swords: 1 symbol of the spiritual powers of god truth. Also the 2nd was to defeat the weak and the helpless. He was born on July 5th 1595, he died on March 14th, 1644. He was 11 years old when he became Guru. He had on grandchild and one child.


After he was executed his father became the new Guru.

Guru 7 Name: Guru Har Rai Date of Birth: 16th January 1630 Date of Death: 6th October 1661 Age at Death: 31 He was well-known for being kind and helpful. He opened free hospitals and gave away free medicine to the needing; some Gurdwaras still do that today.

The Eighth Guru of Sikhism His name was Harkrishan. He helped for the sick people. Harkrishan became Guru at five years old. He died at eight years old from smallpox. Unlike any of the others Gurus Harkrishan had no beard.


Guru 9 Name: Guru Tegh Bahadur Date of Birth: 1st April 1621 Date of Death: 11th November 1675 Age at Death: 54 years old He convinced the Sikhs to go against the Emperor’s demands to become Muslims. He was put in prison and tortured till he died because he said that everyone should be free to choose which God to worship. His death will be remembered by Sikhs forever, as he helped them become free.


Guru Gobind Singh He created Khalsa and asked his sikh followers to wear the five Ks. He asked Sikhs to follow the teachings written in the Guru Grant Sahib as there would be no more living gurus.
