The actual boundary for the South Okanagan is between Peachland and Summerland. This hilly country provides a beautiful backdrop for those communities that are dotted along the shoreline of Lake Okanagan. Hot, dry summers and mild winters are the ingredients that make these lucky places the South Okanagan. From Summerland all the way down to the US border, you will find Osoyoos and several “must see� destinations in between.

The greatest way to get a feel for Penticton, Oliver, Osoyoos & the South Okanagan is to fly over it. A bird’s eye view really helps you to grasp how magical this region really is. It is well represented with summer fun, lakes, beaches, and river floating. But, it also becomes very evident that there is a huge agricultural presence here. Obviously wine is at the forefront, but keep in mind that fruits and vegetables are abundant and have been around a lot longer than the grapes!
Deep agricultural roots are obvious in the picturesque orchards & vineyards, as the visitor is welcomed to a huge variety of fruit stands and market gardens. Recently, a fabulous wine tour route has emerged in Summerland, offering spectacular scenery as you wind your way through the countryside. The Bottleneck Drive wine route is truly an experience featuring 12 wineries, award winning wines and Summerland hospitality.
From the lake basins and hundreds of sandy beaches, up to the high plateaus and mountains that cradle the Okanagan Valley, this is a place that tempts you with numerous options. Explore the South Okanagan and discover the culture and treasures that surround you in every direction.

combination of lakeside lounging and hillside harvesting. Penticton is flanked by two beautiful lakes, Okanagan Lake to the north and Skaha Lake to the south. This dictates summer fun. Beaches, rivers and water fun are all on the menu from sun rise to sun set! Naramata is located on the eastern shores of Okanagan Lake, this region is world famous for producing some of the finest wines . It is easy to spot the terraced benches above the lake with row upon row of many different varieties of grapes. The vineyards have discovered that if you build it, they will come! Many of these businesses now have elaborate tasting rooms, restaurants and guesthouses. There is a whole lot more to owning a
winery these days, with added features like concerts with big name musicians, helicopter tours, weddings and fine dining. Okanagan Falls, Oliver & Osoyoos are three places that have distinctly different vibes. Two things you will enjoy in Okanagan Falls are vineyards (of course) and wildlife. Oliver is the Wine Capital of Canada and for a very good reason. It has the highest concentration of wineries in BC. Osoyoos is also home to many award winning vineyards, but it is also commonly known for the hottest temperatures in Canada and because of that distinction has the warmest lake in the country.

The season typically runs from March to November. Courses in the North Okanagan are more likely to be green and lush with many water hazards, while courses in the South tend to have less water and sand traps everywhere, much more of a desert style course.

WINE & SPIRITS Okanagan wines and spirits have shattered all expectations, as the world acquires a fondness for local vintages and spirits In the past, the Okanagan Valley has been respectfully referred to as “Napa North�, but now after all the praise and all the awards world wide, this area is known as The Okanagan! The wine industry has been recognized on a global scale, and have now surged their way to the top. It is a fact that there are many medals and accolades hanging on bottles from the North Okanagan all the way down to Osoyoos and all points in between! This valley is a rare tract of land that transforms from semi-arid in the north to fully arid, desert in the south. The difference between high day time and low night time temperatures provides the much needed acidity for production of high quality wine making grapes. Winemaking in the
Okanagan Valley first gain popularity with white wines like Pinto Gris, Chardonnay, Gerwurztraminer and Viognier, however in recent years there has been a surge in red vinifera vines. The climate and soil are perfect for growing Pinot Noir, Merlot, Cabernet Farnc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah grapes. Be sure to take some time and enjoy the weather and unparalleled scenery that creates these wonderful vineyards. The slopes and benches are teeming with vines and grapes, row after row. After even just a small tour you will begin to get a clearer picture of the positive affect and magnitude that the wine industry has on the entire Okanagan Valley.
