Another Indian Point outage prompts probe BY PAUL DERIENZO

n Mon., Dec. 14, one of two nuclear reactors at Indian Point in Buchanan, N.Y., went offline for a second time this month. Entergy Nuclear Operations, Inc., which owns the plant, said the shutdown was caused by a “disturbance” on the non-nuclear side of the plant. According to a letter from Governor
Andrew Cuomo to the New York State Public Service Commission, there was no release of radiation. Cuomo said he would send state investigators to inspect the troubled facility. ew York State is funding the construction of a permanent memorial to the victims of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire of 1911, clearing a major hurdle in a years-long fight to erect a fitting monument to one of the deadliest industrial trag-
edies in the country’s history. A group of labor advocates and descendants of the victims started the Remember the Triangle Fire Coalition a few years ago to find a design for the memorial and raise the money needed to construct and maintain it — roughly $2.4 million over all.
