BARKING OVER DOG LEASH RULES IN BATTERY PARK BY YANNI C RACK hen Joseph Zaccaria leaves his apartment in the Financial District to take his boxer, Bailey, for one of her daily walks, he heads south to The Battery. But instead of letting his pooch run free in the park, he walks straight through to the East River waterfront and never even takes the leash off. “If I want to take her off the leash, I get in the car and take her to Brooklyn, to Prospect Park,” Zaccaria said, adding that he makes the trip once or twice a week, depending on his work schedule. WASHINGTON MARKET PARK PUMPKIN-CARVING CONTEST For the first time this year, Washington Market Park is hosting a pumpkin-carving contest, with ribbons awarded in three categories: scariest, funniest and most creative. You can bring your own pumpkin to enter, or just stop by with your family to enjoy the festive display. Note there’s no actual carving permitted at the event. WASHINGTON MARKET PARK HALLOWEEN COSTUME PARADE AND PARTY Get lost in the hay maze or dig up bones in the sandbox, at Washington Market Park’s annual Halloween bash. The parade starts at 12:45 p.m. near CitiGroup Plaza (Greenwich St. at N. Moore St.) and travels south along Greenwich St. to the park.
