he Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce celebrated its Centennial Gala by throwing the biggest event in its history at the New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge. On Saturday, February 10, 1000 people packed into the Marriott’s Grand Ballroom to celebrate 100 years of business in Brooklyn. In a night of accolades given to the borough and past Brooklyn Chamber Chairs and Presidents, the Brooklyn Century Awards were presented to the people who have displayed tremendous leadership in the borough’s history and modern economy. The Chamber also recognized Centennial Chair Peter M. Meyer, who is the New York City Market Bank President at TD Bank, for his contributions to Brooklyn by dedicating the Peter M. Meyer Award in his honor. It

will be presented each year at the Chamber’s Annual Meeting and Trade Show. “Today’s Brooklyn Chamber is a vibrant organization, in line with current times and, as the largest Chamber in New York State, we provide services for businesses today and tomorrow,” Meyer said at the Gala. The Brooklyn Century Awards went to Pamela Harris, Bob Catell, Alan Fishman, Joseph M. Mattone, and Bruce Ratner. Harris is the former long-serving Chief Executive of Maimonides Medical Center. Catell and Fishman are former Chairs of the Brooklyn Chamber who have served in numerous other roles throughout the borough. Mattone and Ratner are real estate developers who have played integral roles in the borough’s development.

The night featured a keynote address by Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Andrew Hoan. “The support from our sponsors goes beyond putting on a party tonight,” he said. The speaking program also included remarks from Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce Board Chair Denise Arbesu, Meyer, Ana Oliveira of Investors Bank and Kenneth Daly of National Grid. The speakers were introduced by Amber Lasciak, the founder of REDU NYC. Lasciak received a loan from Brooklyn Alliance Capital, the Chamber’s Community Development Financial Institution, which provides loans for immigrant and minority-owned small businesses.
